Thank you for your lectures. I've love her books since I was a child. Your information is fascinating. To be completely honest I did not know that parts of her books were fictionalized. I knew she suffered many hardships. But I did not know the extent of it. I think Mrs. Wilder is happy in Heaven with her family & she is happy with the information you have shared with us. You have a kind & compassionate voice & nature about you.

I remembered reading the First Four Years as a child and thinking...that it just wasn't the same as the other books.

I always felt that Rose was spoiled and actually envied her mother's true talent.

yes maybe but I rather think she was more protective ...and her protectiveness went somehow over the edge ...due to her own insecure and false love and broken marriage ...and her way of using money in the way she thought was of being protective , ..it took a dramatic turn when the big depression started ...

@@TheDarkleatherbiker I think that she was a Sour Puss , never happy , never content, always dissatisfied Laura on the other hand looked on the brighter side of life, she had every reason in the world to be miserable or dissatisfied but rather chose to be happy and enjoy her life

Fabulous information. It does sound like Rose was a bit jealous of her mother's literary success. On the other hand, Laura didn't want to overshadow her daughter and even suggested she may use her notes to write a book for adults instead. A mother would do that, how sweet.

She sort of reminds me of Karen Grassle, who played Ma in the television show.

I’ve studied Lane & Wilder for years and I would hardly call this woman an amateur. She knows what she’s talking about. I can’t fathom why anybody would object to her observations-everything she says checks out and she saliently adds more information.
