  • "Sandwich Style Teaching" means making a reading sandwich where Fast Flash are the two pieces of bread and the middle, the PBJ layer, is the high interest material. In this case, the PBJ is one of my lotto games and the corresponding book from my site, www.specialreads.com.
So here's how it works: let's say you're going to be teaching the Spaghetti! book. For the Fast Flash "bread," you'll pick 5 or 6 flash cards for words that are in the book. You'll flash those according to the Fast Flash Method (see my other videos). Then you'll read/teach the Spaghetti! book together. That's the PBJ filling. Then you top it off with another slice of Fast Flash "bread," and you're done. That's the method. Key to learning to read are speed of showing flash cards, repetition (the bread comes both before and after the content), and lastly, always teaching READING for MEANING. The sight words always relate to the high interest reading material you're reading, the PBJ in the middle.
