SANDWICH STYLE TEACHING!
(SOUND ON!)"Sandwich Style Teaching" means making a Reading Sandwich! Fast Flash is the bread before and after; the PBJ in between is whatever high interest material you're using. Here are some quick video clips of "how to." In these clips, the PBJ is my Color Lotto Game, and the corresponding book is my "So Many Colors." Try it! It works super well for the brain, which looooves repetition. For more details on Sandwich Style Teaching, read Chapter 10 in my book "Whole Child Reading." zhlédnutí 13Před 19 hodinami
SOUND ON! What happens when your learner has memorized a sentence based on a picture on the page, but can’t read the words anywhere else? In other words, she can’t actually READ the word. Let’s fix that! Watch this reel to see a makeover that guarantees the reader is actually reading, not faking it. And check out the Whole Child Reading Program at linktr.ee/nataliehalespecialreads

I took these short videos of little Imilie myself, and yet every time I see them, I am blown away. I think, REALLY? Yes, there is DEFINITELY a second reason to teach reading: we teach reading to teach TALKING. Here’s a video that gives you a look at real-life results. We see the learner in her first intake session, and then again 2 years later, after weekly reading lessons. It’s important to no...

Hi ms. Natalie. Am interested about your program . My daughter has Down syndrome . She’s 15 years old. And her power is reading so I write all the words every time I teach her . How can I get your curriculum in reading and also writing too. I am willing to pay for it . I watched some of your videos in you tube but I want to get access in all . Actually , I used that method of startling to read using 4 blank squares and it works .
Hi, Grace! You can get my whole program on my website, www.specialreads.com. You can buy separate levels or the full program, the "3 in 1 Bundle." The full program will give you all the help you need with materials and instructions. If you have more questions, just ask!
💙💛
Really we need your encouragement💙💛
💛💙 Thanks a lot
You bet. 😊
You're awesome, Natalie! Thank you. My mom had told me, "7, 17, or 77...we all need a little love and understanding but we need that little so much." Thank you for reminding me. My Daniel is 11 and wanting, fighting for independence. I miss my baby boy and wish Incould turn the clock back".❤
You'll always have your baby boy in your memory and heart...but now just wait and see what he will do as he "fights for independence" and matures!
Thank you!
Thank you for all you do Natalie!
You are so very welcome!
💙💛👍

Excellent!
Great advice! Ty!
Natalie, you are awesome. Thank you for doing this video, it shows how with the play by play in action so we can see how to do this. You are a Doman wiz!
Thanks for your kind comment, BenJoDan!
Hello my precious hope I wish i had found you earlier But it is not too late all what we have is now We will do it 🙏💙
Hello mam, I just want to know what about writing? How the child will be able to write?
For handwriting, go to www.lwtears.com. it's the best method I've found for our learners.
Thank you! You described my daughter. I will try this method.
Let me know how it goes!
Natalie, this is perfect advice even for us as teachers...when I feel useless, like I'm not going to get through to my son past the very active adhd and I feel like crying. I watch some you tube kids songs,, put on my animated face and then I go in and do what you say, make the task shorter. It works! Thank you for blazing the trail before us and sharing your brain and experience with us Natalie! You are one of the few I've clung to, thank you so very much!!! May you be blessed abundantly for what you do for us! Jonathan is blessed you are his mama.
Thank you for your kind comment! May you also be blessed. I'm so glad you've hung in there with me!
You are a great inspiration for us 🙏
Thank you so much 😀

Hi, Maharat- It looks like "Whole Child Reading" is only available now in paperback; the kindle version is not available. Here's the link to the paperback: www.amazon.com/Whole-Child-Reading-Quick-Start-Developmental/dp/1606132830/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?crid=24LAZCR2K8OH9&keywords=whole+child+reading+natalie+hale+in+kindle&qid=1674274592&sprefix=whole+child+reading+natalie+hale+in+kindle%2Caps%2C133&sr=8-1-fkmr0
I dont like "zip the lip" . I think that is demeaning to a child. This technique may be effective but we can be respectful
Deela, of course the teacher will use whatever phrase is comfortable for the student, and most importantly, whatever works for the student. "Zip the lip" is of course a rhyme. One thing we want to do is keep the prompt short; the shorter the better because it is more effective in getting the student's attention. So please use whatever works for your learner.
I respectfully disagree with the phrase used.
@@deehubbs0811 If you decide to try the technique, I'm sure you will come up with a wonderful phrase to use instead!
Thank you. I am not trying to come off as arguing, or be accusatory. Have a great day!
How would you test a learner who is non verbal, doesn't match nor point?
Hi, Marnina- Being nonverbal is not a problem except for the "naming" part of the technique; at that point, ordinarily the learner could point to a picture of what is being named on the flash card. But you say the learner cannot point; if this means the learner is physically unable to point, then of course you're going to have to get inventive! Find other ways. For example, in asking him/her to identify a word card, you could offer 2 different pictures, pointing to each one yourself, and waiting for a head nod or shake to indicate understanding. Hope this helps!
@@DownSyndromeReading He doesn't shake his head for yes and no either.
@@marninasondack7259 Marnina, what is his diagnosis?
@@DownSyndromeReading he has Down syndrome, but he is a lot more challenged than most.
Can’t wait to start! Thanks!
Omg. This gives me so much encouragement!!!! I am ordering your curriculum for my son tonight! So excited.
I’m so glad, Sonya!!
How to get in the course I want to go fir the course please
Hi, Samia! Please email me as the video instructs you: specialareads@yahoo.com and ask me for the document that gives you all the details! When you write, tell me about yourself and about how you plan to use this certification! We are not yet friends on FB, so I don't know any details about you. I look forward to hearing from you!
I just bought it on Amazon a minute ago. Thank you!
Just to clarify: When doing the exercises in this video, is the parent/teacher both asking and answering? I assume so (at least initially) until the learner catches on to the meaning of the "Wh" word...?
Yes, the teacher models the correct answer in the beginning. The student gradually catches on.
😔😔😔
Thank you for this video!! We will try it out with our daughter.
Lol! So cute!
Thanks, Maria! I had fun doing it!
