Long term user of the R1 here.
Here are a few tips.
To nail the focus for close subjects, I found that center focus mode works best. Focus at the center and recompose. The minimum focus distance is quite short for a point and shoot at 35cm.
For infinity or distant subjects use the landscape mode.
Even if the LCD is not working you can use charts online to use all modes. Just takes a bit of practice and memory.
The panoramic lens is at f8 so use it with good light and the edges are very soft. But it has a look. The center is decently sharp but doesn't perform as well as the standard lens.
Colors are good but B&W is where the camera shines.
My LCD was half working when I got it and it actually got better over time. Almost all the LCD is working now. Storing it in a dry box and using it lightly seems to be the key to longevity.
The flash fill mode is wonderful. Shooting people in daylight with it creates great pictures with nice subject isolation.
Once you learn how to optimize the potential of this camera is takes great pictures and it is so tiny you can take it everywhere.

I've had mine almost exactly a year. It's had about 6 rolls through it. It's my go to camera when I don't want to carry around my x-t30ii.
I have one with the same lens not coming out problem. is that impossible to fix?

I had mine for about 2 years, it used to by my grandpa's, he gifted it to me for christmas in 2021. It was a great little camera, portable but yet outperformed an Olympus Mju / Infinity Stylus. The weak point was the LCD, it died on me pretty early into owning the camera and eventually the whole camera stopped working. Yet, I still want to buy another one, there really isn't a better option in this price range.

I have a R1s, got mine for a steal in Tokyo a while back but would confidently pay much more for one when this one dies. It just performs really well every time. Its small size is probably my favorite feature. hard to find a situation where you cant have it on you when its that slim

I just got one of these cameras and was wondering what mode do you typically shoot in and do you usually just leave the flash on?
I shoot in auto as it’s the default when it’s turned on, 99% of the time that’s perfect as it uses the flash only if it needs it.
I will however use “red eye” when taking photos of my wife, because she has bright blue eyes and otherwise she’ll look like a demon 😂
