      Hi Cynthia! Choose a footer that helps, we recommend the footers we sell, or you might be able to find it in your local sewing supplies store. Another trick is to give a bigger seam allowance or use a piece of paper underneath that would help prevent all these from happening. Try it and let us know how it works!!

    Hi! Thank you for these instructions about tension. I've always done it by trial and error, and it would take forever to finally hit upon the right combination. I'm not a seamstress-- I only use my machine occasionally. I have a question. When I was learning to sew a long, long time ago, I was taught that when sewing stretchy or knit fabrics, I needed to pull/stretch the fabric as I was stitching. I noticed that you did not do that on your sample pieces of fabric. Is pulling on it just not necessary?

    • @pernilleaar8558

      @@pernilleaar8558 What is the "ribbing"? Is it the edge only?

    • @yanna257
      @yanna257 Před rokem +2

      @@SisterBaby ribbing is what would be used for neckbands and cuffs... Some people stretch the fabric when they want to use a straight stitch because if u don't, the seam will pop once the garment is worn. You don't have to stretch the fabric if use a stretch stitch (any zig zag or the triple stitch) or if you use a serger. You actually dont want to stretch your fabric if you're using the correct stitch because it will cause wavy seams. I hope this helped.

      Hey Canny! Glad you have found this sewing video most useful! You dont need to keep going through trial and error, there are better ways to sew. Our online courses go through that because sewing SHOULD NOT be frustrating!! Sandra has gone through all the frustrations, so really, there's no need to put yourself through it. in essence, some fabrics would require stretching and some dont. It depends on the fabric, mainly how soft the fabric is. Ultimately, you need to be the judge but just bear in mind that over stretching the fabric is a problem. The seams will start to wave and that's not what you want, you always need a strong seam!! This reply should answer your questions, feel free to hit us up anytime!

      I get the same way, not just with sewing, but with hobbies/crafts. One thing I do that sometimes (!) helps motivate me is to find something I really, really like the looks of, and then watch some CZcams videos like this one. THE MORE I SEE THE THING DONE CORRECTLY AND SKILLFULLY, THE MORE MOTIVATED I GET TO TRY IT MYSELF! But it has to be a project that really appeals to me and that I really like the look of. Don't feel bad, tho'. Sometimes we just find ourselves in the doldrums, as my Mom used to say, but keep on the lookout for something that really inspires you and then watch someone doing it skillfully. (Just don't be like me and sometimes try stuff that is WAY beyond your skill level, because that'll frustrate you and you'll think, "Boy, I stink at this; I may as well give up.")

    I have been sewing for more than 60 years. Here is a hint. SLOW DOWN. When yo sew so fast, your hands lose control or possibly drag and stretch the fabric a little.

    I love your video content and your presentation. However, I could do better without the music while you are talking. Maybe it's because I wear hearing aids - I don't know. In the beginning I could hear your voice louder and the music less. Don't get me wrong - I love the music but it makes it hard for me to hear and understand what you are conveying. I wish that there was a music/no music option. Thank you for making the video.

    You offered important info, however please point out on your machine your tension and stitch length settings each time, since you pointed out how important these settings are. Saying setting too tight or too short isn't enough information if you haven't shown us what that setting is you are referring to. You have so much potential for having GREAT videos, remember your audience needs you to explain and SHOW us to what you are referring. Don't leave us to guess. Good luck with future videos.
