    The railgun is an odd weapon as where you hit matters a lot more vs other weapons. In safe mode the weapon is capable for one shotting just about every medium armored foe or lower. The caveat is that you have to know where to hit the target. Devastators and butchers can be one shot in both the head and waist. Scout striders in the hip joint. The benefit to safe mode is a higher rate of fire due to a lower charge time. This means that you can dispatch groups of devastators, butchers and even bile spewers much faster in safe mode than in unsafe. Unsafe mode is for heavies and structures. While not as ideal as getting a kill shot the railgun is rather effective at clipping the arms and legs off hulks and destroying tank treads. Hulks lose a lot of their power when missing an arm. Hulk scorchers in particular can do little with out their flame thrower. Tanks lose a lot of their power when they become immobile due to missing treads. Even the mighty factory strider becomes nigh harmless with out its face MGs. So even if you don't have a kill shot you can still render heavy enemies less combat effective allowing your team time to better deal with those targets. This was a good show case on both the weapons strengths and how to not get gunned down by angry socialist robots.

      Great breakdown on the weapon and how best to apply it. I think a lot of players miss out on the nuances like these, but hit location matters a lot in Helldivers.

      @@KaliFortuna Where you hit can be the difference between a one shot kill and a 20 shot kill. Disabling an enemy could save your whole squads life. The number of fights I have turned around and divers I have saved by blowing flamethrowers off hulks or the bile sacs of titans is pretty high. Your fire mode can even matter. Did you know that most ARs can one shot head shot devastators in burst fire mode? Thats three separate trigger pulls in semi and a lot of recoil adjustment in full auto. I didnt even list all the fun little things you can do with the rail gun. The round has a slight bit of punch through allowing you to hit multiple targets if they are close enough together. You can see this with butchers. If they get in a nice line you can one shot two through the gut. Because of that punch through the weapon is great against the bugs in safe mode as well. As long as you aim for their big ugly heads the round should one shot and deal damage to any other bugs unfortunate enough to be in the line of fire.
