The thing is: The American Civil War has been glorified to hell and back. Understandably by the side who was fighting for a just cause (Freeing humans from literal slavery) but not understandable for the other side...
If you go to Spain, there might be those who glorify the losing side of their Civil War (because in that case, the losers were the morally juster side) but nobody is particularly keen on a repeat - and even nine decades later, people are still hesitant to talk about it - victims still don't know where their grandparents are buried and stuff like that.
War is hell, yes. But Civil War is hell where brother fights brother. Where what could be a polite disagreement over a few beers turns deadly serious. And not just once, but millions of times. Nobody wins civil wars - everybody loses.

I am a senior. In mid teens I was fascinated by war stories. I read about the great generals, and battles in history. As life would have it, I was drafted and entered the US Army as a private. We had a training in Basic Training where they fired live bullets over your head. That particular exercise taught me more about war, than years of reading about heroic battles. I never got in a real combat situation, and I am eternally thankful, for that.

Something else to remember: The Vietnam War did not end for the Vietnamese after 1975. On top of the challenges of reunification, rebuilding and reorganization, they in turn had to deal with Pol Pot and Khmer Rouge, who began making encroachments into Vietnamese territory and killing villagers. This led to Vietnam invading Cambodia...and being the first to discover the infamous killing fields (which they liberated). After that, they then had to deal with forming a new government in Cambodia, while ALSO dealing with an invasion from China (since Pol Pot and Deng Xiaoping were allies). No, in truth the war didn't end for the Vietnamese until 1990. Those constant decades of warfare? That shit DOES things to a people, its culture and its government. To this day, Vietnam still has places where food will not grow, because of Agent Orange. To this day, they still have to deal with defomities caused by pesticides, and unexploded ordinance while doing routine utility work.

    - Did you wake up this morning in your government assigned housing?
    - Did you breakfast on your government provided nutritional supplement?
    - Did you dress in your government assigned overalls?
    - Did you take government transportation to your government assigned work position?
    - Did you later read the book that the government approved, or watch the state TV channel?
    - Did you get the lights out by the government mandated curfew?
Or did you wake up in the home you chose, eat and dress as you pleased, take your vehicle to the job you took, read the books/watch the channels you chose, stay up as late as you wanted? There have been societies where the answers to the above questions would all be "Yes".
With all the problems this society may have - and does - you're still freer than virtually any other place and time in the history of this planet. So shut the f*^k up about your freedom, at least until everybody everywhere can answer all those questions "No". The intelligent are easily seeing it and are backing away from our myths, weakening them. The Dirty Harry/Rooster Cogburn/Woodrow Call character of our country's mythology is now projecting weakness onto lefties and they're wrong about that too. Let's face it, if those to the left of center could, they would attempt to control those they see as the opposition. As the Brits would say, "Keep calm and carry on." I've been watching this same garbage talk the same talk and bleating the same infantile fantasies since my own childhood in the '90s. None of this is new, except the scale. It has certainly become more normalized and tolerated than ever before (well, in the last ~100 years, at least), which is why it's incredibly important to call this shit out en masse and why they need to be held accountable. People need to sit down, shut up, and get shit done to make sure this doesn't continue to escalate, and some bad actors need to lose their careers or spend some time in prison.
