Most of the people, now a days, know about Cataract. Cataract is one of the most common and important causes of blurred vision in old age. It occurs as a result of clouding of the normally transparent lens inside the eye, as age advances.
As an Ophthalmologist, I often get three important queries from the patients and their relatives:
1. Can cataract be cured or eliminated without surgery, by using any eye drops or tablets?
2. Are winter months, the best time for Cataract surgery?
3. If surgery is to be done, then what is the right time to get operated for cataract?
In this video, I’ll answer the three queries one by one.
Please watch the video till the end, so as to get a complete knowledge on this important issues.
First, the query no.1
1. Can cataract be cured or eliminated without surgery, by using any eye drops or tablets?
Answer: The plain and simple answer is no.
The second question is:
Are winter months, best time for cataract surgery?
The answer is: Not necessarily.
The next question is, what is the right time to get operated for cataract?
Now, the question. What is the right time to get operated for cataract?
The answer is, I feel, a combination of judgement from both
Patient and Doctor. Not a patient alone, or a Doctor alone.
The best person to judge the right time is the patient only.
In some situations, where patient is unable to decide for themselves, the second-best person to consult is your eye doctor.

Selection of lenses is difficult. I prefer monofocal lenses. I have cylindrical power. Both far and near sight are + will it be a problem after cataract surgery . Price is also different . Clarion made lenses within 30K is at all available or not.

V nice and useful suggestions..Dr. Sahab, can you pl tell me how long it will take to get normal vision after glaucoma and cataract surgery in one eye? I have done it about 3months back but still now I am getting troubles when my vision is exposed in broad day light..my eye sight becomes abnormal and feel some dark patch..it takes time to get it back in normal state...also i get pain..pl explain what to do..consulted with my surgeon and he suggested me to use tears drop.

The problems you are experiencing is quite common after combined cataract and glaucoma surgery.
It's very hard to predict how long it may take to come to normal.
Since your Doctor suggested only tears drops it appears that there is no other issues. That's a good indication that your present problems are temporary and will go away.

Which kind of lenses shall be proper and advisable to use in a cataract surgery. As, maximum cases the opthalmologist ask to use some costly and commercially influenced products. Please don't mind I am hoping for the best answer from you. Regards.

Your question is genuine and interesting but it's very difficult to give you a direct and truthful answer. I am sure you know why.
The thing is that the visual outcome of a cataract operation doens't entirely depends on the quality of lens. It mostly depends on the surgical skill of the surgeon.
I have seen hundreds of patients, operations done in eye operation camps with Indian made lenses. Their eyes are doing fine. No problems.
At the same time, I have seen patients with Rs.45000 lenses in their eyes but cannot see we'll.
Because there were some complications.
After all, it's not that the person in whom operation is done with cheaper lens will see only humans, animals, roads, buildings etc. And the person in whom Rs.45000 lens is used can see even GOD in addition
I do not want to mention any particular brand, but a Rs. 10000 lens will be fine.

I am more than 85 years old and had glucoma which I have operated in 1982 .May I now go for catarac operation ?
At this age, whether you'll be able to go for cataract operation or not depends on many factors. All these are to be judged by physically examining your eyes and general health.
I think it's better to get your eyes examined by a cataract surgeon and your general health by a physician.
They may be able to guide you.

It's quite possible that you have started to develop Cataract. Early Cataract can give rise to colored halos around light. There is another condition called Glaucoma. At your age both are common.
But without examining your eyes it's not possible to know which condition is causing colored halos..
It's better that you consult an Eye Specialist.

Please explain follow up procedure. It takes long time after operation. Needs others help which is not always available.
Follow up procedure is different to different Surgeons and hospitals.
So it cannot be generalized.
. I may tell you something but your Surgeon may instruct you something else.

Although I could not exactly understand your comment, but whatever I understood, I am writing the answer.
It's better to operate when blood sugar remains within normal limit.
But if BS do not come within normal limits, when to operate is entirely upto the Surgeon.

How many days rest required after operation
That's depends upon the Surgeon. Personally I feel that only three weeks rest is enough. But some Surgeon may advice more, some may advice less.
By the way, rest doesn't mean one has to lie on bed all the time.

আবার চোখের ভিতরে কি লেন্স লাগান হবে, তার উপরেও চার্জ নির্ভর করে।

ডাক্তার বাবু আমি বাংলাদেশের ঢাকা থেকে দেখছি।আমি বাম চোখের ছানি অপারেশন করিয়েছি। এখন ডান চোখের অপারেশন করা কি জরুরী। আমার তেমন কোন সমস্যা হচ্ছে না তবে মাঝে মাঝে আমার দুই চোখেই ধোঁয়া লাগলে যেমন জ্বালা করে ঠিক তেমনিভাবে।আমার দুচোখেই মাঝে মাঝে তেমনি জ্বালা করে দুচোখ দিয়েই পানি পড়ে।
শুধু চোখে জ্বালা করার জন্যে ছানি অপারেশন করার দরকার নেই। কিন্তু ডান চোখে যদি দেখার সমস্যা থাকে, তাহলে করতে হবে। চোখ না পরীক্ষা করে তো জানা যাবে না যে ডান চোখে কতটা ছানি হয়েছে। আপনি একজন চক্ষু বিশেষজ্ঞ কে দেখান।
আমার বাম চোখ ছানি operetion হয়েছে। ডান চোখ এখনো হয়নি। glucoma আছে। 15 ( লেফট) 20 ( রাইট )। ডান চোখ একটু ঘোলাটে দেখি। glukoma কি খুব বেশী attack করেছে ?
এই রোগের নাম glukoma নয়।
Glaucoma গ্লকো মা।
আপনি শুধু আপনার চোখের প্রেশার 20 লিখেছেন । আপনার দৃষ্টির পরিমাপ লেখেন নি। ফিল্ড of vision কেমন আছে টা লেখেন নি।
Glaucoma শুধু চোখের প্রেশার দিয়ে বোঝা যায় না। উপরের লেখা অন্য দুটিও দেখতে হয়। অন্য দুটিও জানতে পারলে পুরো জিনিসটা বোঝা যাবে।

চোখ না পরীক্ষা করে ঠিক বোঝা যাবে না যে কতটা ছানি এসেছে। আপনি যে ডাক্তারবাবু কে দেখিয়েছেন, ওনাকেই জিজ্ঞেস করুন অপেক্ষা করা যাবে কি না।

চোখ পরীক্ষা না করে ঠিক বলা যাবে না যে চোখে কি হয়েছে। আমার মতে আপনি ওনাকে একজন চক্ষু বিশেষজ্ঞ কে দেখান। উনি পরীক্ষা করে ধরতে পারবেন যে ঠিক কি হয়েছে। ওটাই সব থেকে ভাল হবে।
আমি একটি চোখে ফেকো করেছি 4/3/23 ।। এর পরে আমি এপ্রিল মাসের শেষে করবো। বয়স 76। সুগার ও পেসারের ঔষধ খাই। তবে এখন সব নরম্যাল আছে। পরামর্শ চাই আপনার।
আমি বুঝতে পারছি না যে কেন আপনি এপ্রিল মাস লিখেছেন। বোধ হয় ভুল করে লিখেছেন। মে মাস হবে।
যদি আপনার প্রেশার ও সুগার নর্মাল আছে এবং অপারেশন করা চোখে কোনোও সমস্যা নেই, তাহলে আপনি মে মাসের শেষের দিকে করতে পারেন।

আমি এক মাসের মধ্যে দুটো চোখে ছানিকাটিয়ে ছি।অপারেশনের পর দুটো চোখে এলারজি হয়ে গেছে ।সাত মাস হয়ে গেছে ।কেন হলো বা কি করা উচিত?
অনেক কারণে চোখে অ্যালার্জি হতে পারে। ওষুধের থেকেও হতে পারে। আবার অপারেশনের সাথে কোনোও সম্পর্ক নেই এই রকম কিছু র থেকেও হতে পারে।
চোখ পরীক্ষা না করে ঠিক বোঝা যাবে না।
আপনি যে ডাক্তারবাবু অপারেশন করেছেন ওনাকে গিয়ে একবার দেখান।

ছানি অপারেশন এর দেরি হলে মাথা ব্যাথা বা মাইগ্রেন এর কোনো সমস্যা যেটা আগে থেকেই আছে, বেড়ে যায় কি।

মাইগ্রেন সাধারণত বাড়ে না। কিন্তু কম ছানি থাকলে, দৃষ্টি কিছুটা কম হয়ে যেতে পারে। এর জন্যে উপযুক্ত পাওয়ারের চশমা ব্যবহার করতে হয়। না ব্যাবহার করলে, মাথাব্যথা হতে পারে।

Doctor saheb, I have done Cataract surgery on 10th June 23 .Due to something else it re- done on 13th .The Eye drops recommended (1) Topin (2) Oflacin for one week (3) Predace for six weeks.Now vision is seems to be more clear then before .Again I have been called for testing on 20th July 23 .Somany restrictions have been imposed for my regular domestic Home works .Kindly tell me whether treatments going on rightways so far sir ji .
Although I do not know the reason for second operation, but the medicines you mentioned are the routine ones recommended for almost all the post operative cataract patients.
As you mentioned that your vision is clearer now. Restrictions are temporary and for your eyes only.
So, don't get worried. Please follow the instructions as advised by your Doctor.

আমার এক ছোখ অপারেশন করেছি এখন ১৭ বৎসর আমার বয়স ৭০ এখন আমার ছোখ ঝাপসাহয়ে গেছে আমি এখন কি করতে পারি ধয়া করে জানাবেন
কি অপারেশন হয়েছে টা লেখেন নি।
আধুনিক অপারেশন করবার খরচ সম্পর্কে ধারণা দিলে আরও সাহায্য বা সহজ বা ভিলো হতো ।এক্কেবারে আমার ধারণা।
আসলে এই ভিডিওটির উদ্দেশ্য হল সকলকে জানান অপারেশনের ঠিক সময় কোন সময়। এ ছাড়া অপারেশনের খরচ বিভিন্ন হাপাতালে বিভিন্ন রকম। বিভিন্ন রকমের লেন্সের উপরও নির্ভর করে।
সুতরাং খরচ নিয়ে আলোচনা করা ঠিক নয়।
