    I recently took a huge interest in cameras, I realized there were so many moments I wish I had documented. I love watching videos my parents took of my siblings and I, how different some places look, how my dad filmed some things in war. This video was very helpful😊 Looks like a great camera to capture my memories❤❤

    Brilliant review!!! I am a still photographer of many years experience but when I bought this camera I was in another, very strange world. The instructions given by Sony were the usual 2 page stuff which might be ok if you are familiar with a camcorder but when you do not know what some of the setting mean they are quite inadequate. Your review went through the menu in excellent detail and gave me confidence to get into it. Now I can adjust the settings with confidence. You should work for Sony. Now doing test to see if I should use high quality or standard to reduce storage space (how brave is that). Many thanks for your review.😃

    Just ordered one Mike, and I'm a very fussy art creative when it comes to tech on my low budget! So thanks mate, I really appreciate time u took making this video, helped me a lot with menu settings and functions even before mine arrives next few days! I'll prob set it up exactly as you have to start with as I don't know much about camcorders, except my research online! I'm a night so owl so It was gud to see it in use at night! And white balance info great to know! I was torn between this and the Panasonic in same price range, but I know this can create automatic highlights vid from footage, so that made my mind up! Only downsides I saw in other vids were 1) No external mic Jack, but inbuilt mic sounded when you was outside, so I'll do for my current starting needs! 2) Feels very cheap, but for the £198 I paid what can anyone expect! From my research it seems to be the best on market for this price range, along with the Panasonic! so I'm more than happy as it's only for everyday creative casual use to get me into basic video utube/art projects with people in London. I can upgrade when I need to. Really appreciate this video Mike, I've subscribed! 👍

    I have 2 of them and this is the best review of this camera on CZcams. One thing you did not talk about is that you can edit what you record in the camera before you put it in your PC. I record 5 to 10+ hours out of my kitchen window to see all of the birds and squirrel that visit my feeders. I edit the best clips about 2 or 3 mintues of the action and then make the video in Windows Movie Maker. I think you should make a part 2 review about this. If I coul blog as good as you I would.

    A couple hidden nuggets:
    1. Next to the battery slot is a capped spare battery compartment. Does need a thin flat object like a knife blade to be opened though, but caaarrefull!
    2. Whilst recording in video mode pressing the Photo button at the top rear takes a snapshot
    3. It can be plugged in/recharging whilst recording
    4. Using the hdmi cable you can plug into a smart tv or a monitor for playback or as a recording viewscreen

    Great review Mike. I'm looking into a small video camera for some casual video shooting while on the road. Normally I would shoot video on my DSLR or mirrorless but when I use those I have to be extra carefull because my eyesight isn't very good. This camera seems perfect for some run and gun shooting. That “white fabric plastic” is an anti-static bag. Most are clear or grey, but Sony uses a anti static bag with special cloth that also protects the product. Also, I am buying this camera today in 2023. Lolz! My Reasons: 1. I can hook a battery pack (I have 2 Mopys) to it for a very long uninterrupted recording. 2. Real image stabilization on the physical lens (not a digital stabilization) so nice. 3. The zoom. 4. Cheap. 5. No Wi-Fi or Bluetooth or subscription none sense. 6. I heard from multiple reviews it’s own outer microphone is very good. I don’t want to have to buy a separate mic.

    Mike thanks for the review. I was planning in purchasing this model. I have a question: are you able to store the footage (video) on your computer? Is it a simple thing to do or do you have to keep buying additional SD cards ( also what brand/memory do you recommend)

    • @twistybonks
      @twistybonks Před 2 lety

      Correct me if I am wrong but I thought you can put the memory card into your computer through a Memory Card Reader and move the files over. Format your card after you have what you need, formatting the car will give you an empty card again

    • @MikesWorld1
      @MikesWorld1  Před 2 lety +10

      It accepts microSD cards. You can buy a microSD card with a microSD card reader. Just create a folder on your computer to dump the video to, put the card back in your camera, delete the footage, then use the card again. One tip though, DO NOT FORMAT THE CARD TO DELETE FOOTAGE. This is a common mistake most people make. Doing this will eventually corrupt your card. Here is why. When you format the card it shows as being empty but its not. All of the data is still there, you just can't see it. As you record new video, it overwrites existing data. However, as it overwrites, it occasionally misses bits of data. This causes data fragments that build over time until it corrupts your card. Eventually , the card won't work or you'll lose footage. Best practice is to actually delete the footage in the camera. That actually deletes the data. If you use the card a lot, you should do a full format of the card in your computer about once every two months. To do that, put the card in the PC, go to My PC and find the drive that is the card, right click, and click on FORMAT. When the box opens, uncheck the QUICK FORMAT box. This will do a full format of the card and erase all data. Doing this will keep your cards working well for many years. I still have an 8GB SanDisk SD card I bought in 2010 that works perfectly.

    Mr. MW: thoroughly enjoyed your comprehensive video. I concur with and affirm 110% of your assessments and conclusions. Walking through the entire menu set item by item was an A- using your scale. Video and Photo novices are your biggest audience. In the future, when you change any STANDARD menu option ("I'm gonna change that cuz I don't like it.") Please briefly explain the reason why you don't like a particular feature. Novices stick to as much "standard" set-up configurations as possible. If there is a TECHNICAL reason to change a standard option that is different than a PERSONAL style choice like white balance, tell us. Novices learn best when a feature change is explained for practical AND personal reasons. Thank you for your fine work.

If you tried to set both shutter and iris to manual at the same time the other always reset to auto setting. And another question: does the camera remember all the user settings when it is turned off and on again? Thank you beforehand.

      Yes, the CX405 can be used in full manual mode BUT only three of the controls can be set to the home screen for easy access and changing. The others have to be changed in the menu. Just keep that in mind.

    Great video. Does it have an input for an external mic? Also, I would like it to record in only MP4, not the dual mode, is that possible?

    I bought mine way back 2016 it's been a good camcorder very compact and lightweight, now I'm using fdr-ax43 as a main and cx405 as backup just in case something went wrong.

    I ordered one of these today from Best Buy, glad to see I made the right choice. I like to storm chase, and where I live in Louisiana, a lot of our tornadoes happen at night, so I’m glad to see that this camera does well in low light conditions. Probably much better than my iPhone 12, which only zooms in 3x and does horrible in low light. I am curious, though, does this camcorder have internal storage or will I need a microSD card?

    Which sd would be good for this camera. Have you had any problems and for your video using the cam did you use a external mic or jus the one built in

      @MikesWorld1  Před rokem +2

      The CX405 does not allow for connecting an external microphone. I only use SanDisk Extreme Pro 32 or 64GB SDXC cards. Here is a link: www.amazon.com/dp/B09X7BYSFG/?tag=svpmedia-20

      I also have a Canon R80. Benefit to that cam is it has a 3.5mm audio input jack. With the right settings, it can produce amazing images. Bad part is jello video if you get too much vibration which makes it terrible as a mounted dashcam or action cam.

    • @MikesWorld1

      I do not but might look at that. I edit everything in Adobe Premiere and export as a .mp4 using the CZcams preset before uploading to CZcams.

    Before I bought a CX405 I had the CX240 and I thought the lens was probably lacking in sharpness. But the CX405 seems to have the same lens and it is wonderfully sharp. So in retrospect, the difference seems to have come from the bitrate. Used at full 50 mbps it is stunningly sharp. When I record UHD on my better cameras, you need 80+ mbps (for H.264) to do better. That was the big lesson. Resolution, compression and data-rate all need to work together. The CX405 is still a nice wander-around camcorder to have with me.

      @vidthreenorth4007 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@basketballmaven1454 I don't know of any way that it can be set directly. It is mainly a matter of adjusting the provided menu options like in the "Image Quality/Size". The bitrate is whatever Sony decided at those settings.
