    This is the Murrimba Road level crossing at Wingello, New South Wales. It is located between Moss Vale and Goulburn, on the Sydney - Melbourne Line. The current signals were installed on January 3, 2008 and replaced the original signals which dated back to November 2, 1986.
    Both signals have unmarked bases, Western Cullen Hayes gate mechanisms and Alstom LED lights. The southern signal has a Westinghouse hybrid bell which rings from start up until the gates rise. The northern signal has a Western Cullen Hayes mechanical bell which rings until the gates lower, it replaced a Westinghouse hybrid bell not long after the signals were installed and was most likely recycled from the old signals. The bells are switched off at night due to the nearby houses.
    The original signals had Harmon gate mechanisms and Western Cullen Hayes mechanical bells, and are shown at the end of the video in two pictures which I took on April 16, 1993. Another point of interest is that the new signals were most likely recycled from the level crossing at Fallon St, Albury NSW, having been installed there in July 2004 and removed just over two years later when the crossing was closed in December 2006.
    Train information:
    1st train: SN34 passenger service from Goulburn to Campbelltown.
    2nd train: 5MB2 freight from Melbourne to Brisbane, with locomotives NR96 and NR44.
    3rd train: This is a QUBE freight service heading towards Sydney, with locomotives 1105 and QBX 001. I believe the tanks are used to transport cement and the containers used to carry grain. The train number is most likely 5MS7 or 3112N.
    4th train: 2196N aggregate from Peppertree Quarry to Cooks River, with locomotives TT124 and TT111.
    5th train: SN44 passenger service from Goulburn to Moss Vale.
    6th train: 9227 empty limestone from Port Kembla to Medway Quarry, with locomotives 9305 and NR8.
    7th train: 2222N limestone from Medway Quarry to Berrima Cement Works, with locomotives 8127 and 8137.
    Filmed on September 21, 2018.

    Love the crossing you filmed here some years back now Michael. Went to Wingello earlier this month to film a fair amount of trains there. When i was there. The WC Hayes bell has died as it never rings when I was there. only the Westinghouse Hybrid did.

    I filmed this crossing not too long ago. All of the equipment is the same, but, the WCH M-Bell died and was replaced by a Safetran type 3 E-Bell. The hybrid is still there though.

    RIP dead bells

      Luckily they're not dead, just switched off during late night and early morning.

    I was there a couple days ago, and unfortunately the WCH m bell has been replaced by a safetran type 3. The hybrid is still going strong though.

    Great Video. I think that the Qube train goes to Minto

    I actually attempted to record this crossing but the train never came for hours so that’s when I recorded the pedestrian crossing in Tahmoor back in 2016

      It's a shame you missed recording the crossing. The best time to record here is in the morning, there are heaps of trains.

    Nice crossing, and I do agree with your theory about how these signals possibly came from Fallon Street, Albury.

      Thanks! Hopefully a picture of Fallon St will turn up some day. It seems that Wingello was never mentioned in any of the LCSC reports, I guess because it was upgraded using recycled equipment with no cost involved.

    Great video! Both m-bells certainly sound healthy! It’s a shame the old signals are gone now but I quite like the new ones! Had the old signals lights been converted to LED when they were replaced?

    • @McKHAust
      @McKHAust  Před 5 lety

      Thanks! My memory is a bit scratchy but I'm pretty sure Wingello still had incandescent lights and wishbone gates right up until the 2008 upgrade. It's nice that one of the original bells was reused here and I think the 2 Tracks sign on the signal with the hybrid bell was also reused, it still has the old cast iron bracket.

    Nice video! Some of that equipment looks old/needs a good clean. I wonder why hybrid bells never migrated outside of the eastern states.

    • @McKHAust
      @McKHAust  Před 5 lety

      Thanks! Some of the equipment has moss growing on it which needs removing. Pretty sure there were a few hybrid bells around the Pilbara region in WA, but they're the only ones I know of outside NSW and VIC. Not sure why other states didn't use them, guess they were happy with the bells they were already using.

      @@McKHAust I think SA also had a couple too as I saw one crossing there with a hybrid bell, but it has since been replaced with an e-bell.

      Now that you mention it, I do recall seeing this hybrid bell on GSV www.google.com.au/maps/@-35.0120133,138.7437498,3a,75y,327.94h,87.74t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sJrt3FcvlNp6FFiRXDr5f9w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

    Excellent video! I wonder why the hybrid was replaced.

      Thanks! The hybrid bell was most likely recycled so I guess it died.
