Nice to see the current iteration of the setup we've seen grow over the last year or so ;)
Thanks !!! This is by far the best diy backpack walkthrough I have seen. Very precise and easy to understand.
This is really great! I’m particularly intrigued with the idea of live streaming a motorcycle tour. I’ll have to check that out! Good stuff, Erïc!
Looks great!!
Thanks for this Eric! Great vid !
Thanks for the in depth explanation. It would be cool if you made a video explaining the software side next. That would be dope.
Excellent walk through. Thank you for taking the time to share this with us.
Very helpful video. You have a nice setup and the backpack is awesome!
Lots of great tips
Thanks for sharing, interesting to see your full setup. Also suprised to hear that you can survive streaming in Japan on only 2 connections.
yea, it works fine 95% of the time. I only have data issues when there is literally no data or I'm having some sort of issue on my side.
You could cover the wire connections with silicone tube if you want to waterproof it, make it removable and less slippery or shrink tube but it will not be easy to remove.
I mean, the backpack is made of mesh, im a long way from waterproof here haha.
@@EricKlein wow didn't even notice thought it has lining under it, well good luck with Japan's weather buddy, dude there is something wrong with CZcams notifications because i didn't get your replay till someone liked my comment.
@@jacklol4248 i just don't stream when it's raining. i dont want to be out in that anyways lol
Awesome video. Thanks for explaining in detail. And that’s a scooter. Not a motorcycle 😂
I have the FDR-X3000 and still use it. I have no plans to replace it with other recent action cams without OIS. To me, the results of OIS look more natural than those of digital stabilization.
i agree in respects to visual quality. these days i also don't use my sony cam 99% of the time bc i hate the form-factor compared to the action4 which is, in those respects, a dream.
Nice set up
Appreciate you! Dope set up.. that type of backpack is super clutch.. maybe you can use a cocoon grid to keep the things organized inside.
yea, i had trouble finding a grid-it that fit, but i got one now. its great now.
Thank you
nice to learn a thing or 2 on the twitch side.
Love the necklace idea! Where did you manage to pick it up from? Thanks for sharing such a great setup 👌
i wish i knew, i think i got it at diaso, but i can't find them anymore hahaha
Any new t-shirts for the wall Eric?
Like seeing a bit extra, behind the scenes and tips for some.
got a dope marge simpson shirt recently
this is super informative! i love the bicep strap idea. ive always been afraid that it would fall off me in some way, but glad to know that it works for you. the internet has also been a crazy issue and i think i might just follow through with what you mentioned for your setup.
pretty much everyone i've heard of uses a samsung phone to work with their IRL setup, but is it doable on an iphone too? i have the 13 pro max right now, and probably will upgrade later
bonded data streaming on iphone is in super beta right now, it'll be quite a while until it's ready for actual use. If you want a phone for streaming get a S23ultra or wait for the s24ultra. You can also use modern google pixels, but they have thermal issues.
This video is super useful and made things a lot more clear for me. I plan on IRL streaming in Japan as well, and renting some pocket wifi.
In this case it would probably either be a Softbank 304ZT or 602HW, since I can't seem to bring my own modem to Japan with a Japanese sim card.
I was wondering though, I see you plug yours in via usb.
Does plugging it in mean it connects internet to the bella box?
For it to connect through usb, did you just have to plug it in or do some other steps for it to get actual internet?
And does this also charge it at the same time?
Thanks in advance
If the belabox is setup properly it will keep the modems charged yes. And yes, if the modem can supply a connection via USB you simply plug it in and the belabox recognizes it as an internet source.
I thought about doing IRL streaming, I wanted something like a Bella Box or other encoder but im super new to it and some of it seems daunting to put together. the other options like a Live-U seem so expensive for new IRL streamers. I just wanted to walk around NYC and go to food places, and shops and such.
learn a bit about OBS if you don't already and look into the app IRLPro. It runs on android and is dope for streaming. It's a good entry point, and might be all you really need depending on what kind of streaming you do. -E
An idea to to keep everything fixed in place (inside de bag) is to attach the battery and bellabox to an acrylic sheet and put it in your backpack
yea, I've considered that but sometimes I also carry spare camera lenses of various sizes in the bag so having it remain flexible is a priority. tbh, its pretty much fine how it is, it could just be a tad more tidy, it's not a huge priority though.
Have you tried to use the same band you use for the Receiver of the mic to tape down the batteries on the backside of the Backpack? Great video thanks for it :)
yea, I could do that, I just don't want to put that stuff on the batteries bc I use them for other stuff too.
Nice vídeo! How did you setup the rounded map in the livestreamings?
realtimeirl and some masks in obs, if i recall.
Do you happen to have a link to where I could get the necklace? I love the idea and concept!
i wish i could, i dont remember where i got it and i've been looking for another one for like 2 years lol
Thanks for sharing~ how long can last for the stream with 1 powerbank when using belabox bee?
I get about 6 hours with one modem, the wireless system and the as300 camera being powered off the same bank.
Terrific explanation, Eric! This is a much more efficient rig than I've seen from most other YTers. But the real question is, what is the Rubik Cube in your bag for? 🙂
solving! haha
Dude Totally enjoy your personal home videos.🎉🎉🎉 iii remember in Houston watching Kyde replace a cabinet thingy. She went and bought wood I believe. ❤❤❤ awesomeness sauce 😂
What is the Shelbyville reference, Eric? I grew up in Indiana and my mom related that when her high school team played Shelbyville, their favorite cheer was "Shelbyville is it, Shelbyville is it, SH for Shelbyville, IT for it!"
oh, haha, its a joke from The Simpsons. Their neighboring town is called Shelbyville.
@@EricKlein Oh, now I get it. For a stretch there were a bunch of writers from the Indiana University physics department that wrote for the Simpsons and there is a Springfield in I think about 34 states. Again, a great vid on your tech!
14:00 so the dji reciever can work without being plugged into the sony cam during a livestream or just recording an audio?
yea, run the DJI receiver into the belabox with a USB cable and you don't need to run any mics into the Sony cam. It works awesome.
thanks man i didnt even know it was possible untill i saw this randomly watching your video! less cords!!
I have a really basic , obvious and amateur question but I have to ask : where does all video flux goes? I mean, where do you livestream from? I thought you'd have a laptop carried in the backpack with obs set up?
Otherwise if i'ts from your phone, Im wondering which software is used
Idk if my question is clear, but im trying to understand how the streaming part is done, where does it go?
Btw, thank you for the full setup video, really helpful i learnt a lot
oh yea, the software side is a totally different thing haha, it's kinda complicated. Long story short is:
1. The camera signal goes into the "belabox bee" (the silver box in the backpack) via HDMI
2. The Belabox Bee runs custom software called "belabox" which takes the video signal, compresses it to h.265 and sends it over (in my case) two cellular networks, one is on my phone and connected to the belabox bee via local wifi hotspot and the other is a modem plugged into the belabox bee via USB. The idea is it is able to use both cellular networks in case of low bandwidth or signal failure on one, it can instantly adjust and work on the other. You can add a LOT of modems if you have them, not just two.
3. The signal goes over the "bonded" cellular networks to what is called a "SRTLA ingest" which sucks in the signal from both modems and turns it into a single video signal which is them captured by my computer at home which is running OBS.
4. The OBS machine then adds all the overlays and has some custom software to flip to a "BRB scene" if all my cellular connections fail (in a tunnel/elevator, etc) and automatically comes back to "live" when the signal is re-established. The OBS machine feeds the entire thing up to twitch (or youtube or wherever) as usual from there.
There are some apps and stuff people have built to help you monitor and control everything while you are out and about. It's all pretty wild tbh, and a borderline miracle it works LOL.
what board does the belabox bee use? is it a jetson nano? but the inputs orientation doesn’t seem to fit
i'm actually not sure lol
Very nice! (In an absurd voice)
How do you play the tts and alert on your Bluetooth speaker?
i don't use a bluetooth speaker, but i do use TTS in headphones often. I just use the chatapp streambuddy.
Can you please provide links to the micro usb adapter and the hdmi adapter that you use?
sure, but they are amazon japan links as that's where i live.

Thanks so much!!!!@@EricKlein
did you make your own Belabox?
i have in the past, this is "pre built" system from the creator of belabox which is very nice and stable.
Big question is, how much will all of this change once Kyde can ride on the motorbike with you?
not much, but in theory she will be able to just hold the camera on a selfie stick or something if we want. Audio is going to get complicated, however and I'm not totally sure what to do.
What was the total you spent on everything?
I'm not absolutely sure what that build cost is, but upwards of $2000usd, I'm sure. It can be done cheaper these days.
so, where is the hamster? 🐹
uh oh
Eaten by e-sheep.
Hey bud, I’m trying to build a back pack based off of your build. The one thing I was curious is if the M6 pro is worth it. I noticed you used the m1 for the build. Does the 4g cut it? Or should I try and run the M6 I found one unlocked for Verizon… by any chance can I hit you on IG or somewhere to ask questions about building also I have some questions about launching the actual stream. Like does my computer need to be running the whole time. If I’m going to be streaming somewhere hours away how would I do that? Stuff like that. If you don’t have time to answer totally get it. Just figured I’d ask.
I don't use an m1 modem, it's a sh52b, but it's specific to my cellular network here in Japan. I'm not personally familiar with the m6 Pro so I can't speak to that. Your computer does need to be on and running for the stream of course, most people just leave it on at all times I suspect. Your best bet for support and ideas is to hit up the belabox discord, i hang out there a lot but there are also a lot of other people who can help with specific questions.
