- There is a lot of confusion about the difference between an attic fan and a whole house fan. They’re very different products but they work together to cool, ventilate, and exhaust the entire home, day and night, year-round.

so glad to have both!
Great video and clarification!
It’s interesting, once you get east of Chicago people call both WHF and attic fans, attic fans. Thanks for the distinction!
Our pleasure!
Great videos
Thank you!! We have a ton of great content on our CZcams page.
I think you have missed one other location for installation, the garage. When you want to ventilate the house open the windows and the door leading to the garage and close the garage door. When you want to ventilate the attic, open the garage door and keep the windows closed.
If you have both & use them when needed or beneficial to you at the proper time! You’ll get a savings & prolonged roofing!?
I’ve seen many ole school whole house fans in 70-80 model houses!
Most new homes don’t have this luxury!
They are lifesavers when your AC goes out! Jus Make sure your attic is properly ventilating & the savings will come using your AC less!?
I got a 2300 ft house. What whole House fan is recommended for that size, and where can I buy it. I will install it myself ??? Thank you
Hi Johnny,
From the manufacturer, we like to recommend 2-3 CFM per sqft depending on your location.
For you, I would recommend a Classic or Energy Saver 5400 at the minimum and the biggest unit we have is the Energy Saver or Classic 7000.
Where to buy here:quietcoolsystems.com/where-to-buy/do-it-yourself/
Average cooling is 400(400 CFM is one ton of airflow) sq ft per ac tonnage …One ton of cooling is 12,000 btu’s to cool 400 sq ft! 2000sq ft is 4 to 5 ton (48,0000 to 60,000) AC! Jus moving air i’d double 2000 CFM! So 4000-5000 plus CFM sounds good! As the people have recommended for you🤘🏼🙏🏽🙌🏽👌
I have a 3900 sqft house what CFM do you recommend
I have whole house fan AND attic fan both from Quiet Cool. If I ran them both at the same time, attic fan draws cool air from outside of house through the vent while whole house fan pushes hot air out of attic vent . That means they would be “fighting” with each other air flow wise, wouldn’t it ?!!!! I’m confused.
I have both also, I run only 1 at a time. When the house fan is on it’s pulling air through the house open windows and pushing that air into the attic. That air is then being pushed out through your attic vents. So having the attic fan on won’t do much while that house fan is running. On hot days I leave the house fan off and run the air conditioner and have the attic fan on (thermostat controlled 95-100*) and that pulls air from one side of the gable vent and out the other side where the fan is. Leaving the house and attic climates separated.
Hope this helps
@Number1redskinfan in the evening and night time hours you can run both together. It will help push the air out faster.
@@qcmanufacturing I did not know that, I will try that tonight 👍🏼
What would you recommend for a A frame?
Both a smart attic fan and whole house fan.
I had one whole house fan to cool my 2900 sqf house. I then added another 1400 sqf, I feel my old whole house fan is not able to cool down the house fast enough like it has before. Shall I add another whole house fan ? Is it ok to have 2 whole house fan at the same house ?
Yes, most definitely you can add another one. I would recommend getting a master bedroom fan and use it with central fan to mass cool the room but have your own personal one in your master bedroom. We call this a zone system.
@@qcmanufacturing thanks for the quick response. The house addition has two main areas, one is a new master suite, one is a new large kitchen. Both very important area. Both far from old whole house fan. You recommend A master bedroom fan, I am afraid that would not cover my kitchen area.
@losorchid3789 get one that does around 3k-4k CFM and it will cover it
Now all thats needed is a method to filter the outside air before the whole house fan brings it in. My housekeeper is complaining !
Hello,
Have you heard of Pollentec? It's an effective solution for keeping dust and pollen out of your home.
Does an attic fan automatically turn on?
It depends on the model, it should but you'll have to check especially if it's old. A lot of fans come without a controller so make sure to get that if you install one.
Can I put a whole house fan & a attic fan
Hello,
Yes, you can!
Its the perfect two!!!
I custom made my attic fan into a whole house fan 😇😇😇
0:41 then 1:45
So an attic fan is also called an exhaust fan?
It can be referred as an exhaust fan because it exhaust the air out of the attic but the technical term is an Attic Fan or an Attic Exhaust Fan
Dominic ?!
Yes, that is Dom. Do you know him?
With a WHF, where does the air come from, if you exhaust the air out, where does the air enter from outside. It’s not like your creating a vacuum within your home, your just bringing in the outside air to replace the air your exhausting out… so pushing hot air out, bringing in hot air from outside?
You only turn on your house fan when it cools in the later part of the day or evening. They are cool for places that get warm during the day and cool at night. You crack open your windows/doors then turn in your whole house fan.
The cool air is pushed to the attic and out the vents cool your attic too. The following day it takes longer for your attic (then your home) to hear up.
@@carlitos_714 oh okay, got it. Thank you..
