Well that's a hell of a monstrosity for s attic fan
Do you have to cover the insulation?
I tried this, and it didn't help at all. The clasp was already expanded as much as it could go, so cutting the duct material did nothing to open the duct more. In the end, I wound up snipping a bit of the damper box piece (just the very end) so I could compress it a little, and that worked. If the damper box piece was tapered slightly this would help a lot.
Can you get closer to the mic and speak even more loud and belligerently into it please?
Yes, I’m sorry
Not a good application where it stays 100° + through midnight, till dawn when it will get past 120° (Death Valley, Coachella Valley).
Yes, this product is designed to be used in those areas during fall and spring. This is a big deal because you have to run ac 9-10 months a year and you can cut it down to only 3 months of heavy ac use. You will save a ton of money and pro long the life of your ac system. Your ac is your most expensive appliance to run and replace. They only last about 12.5 years on avg and you can have it last up 20-30 years if you use a whole house fan during the spring and fall.
Attic fan will cause a negative pressure in the attic causing leakage of cold air into the attic, the same air that your AC worked hard to cool being wasted in the attic. Also can lead to condensation around fixtures in the ceiling leading to mold and moisture damage. Radient barrier is way more efficient and doesn't require electricity.
Attic fans do not pull air from the house into attic. They just cool and ventilate your attic. They keep your attic within 10 degrees of the outline temperature at all times. There is no much air flow it is impossible to cause mold and condensation. It actually does the opposite and prevents it in your attic.
How do we keep the dust out
We make special screens that block out the dust and pollen. They’re called clean air screen.
We make a special window screen that blocks out dust and pollen. It’s the world’s first MERV rated screen. It’s called a clean air window screen
I had one whole house fan to cool my 2900 sqf house. I then added another 1400 sqf, I feel my old whole house fan is not able to cool down the house fast enough like it has before. Shall I add another whole house fan ? Is it ok to have 2 whole house fan at the same house ?
Yes, most definitely you can add another one. I would recommend getting a master bedroom fan and use it with central fan to mass cool the room but have your own personal one in your master bedroom. We call this a zone system.
@@qcmanufacturing thanks for the quick response. The house addition has two main areas, one is a new master suite, one is a new large kitchen. Both very important area. Both far from old whole house fan. You recommend A master bedroom fan, I am afraid that would not cover my kitchen area.
@losorchid3789 get one that does around 3k-4k CFM and it will cover it
I have whole house fan AND attic fan both from Quiet Cool. If I ran them both at the same time, attic fan draws cool air from outside of house through the vent while whole house fan pushes hot air out of attic vent . That means they would be “fighting” with each other air flow wise, wouldn’t it ?!!!! I’m confused.
I have both also, I run only 1 at a time. When the house fan is on it’s pulling air through the house open windows and pushing that air into the attic. That air is then being pushed out through your attic vents. So having the attic fan on won’t do much while that house fan is running. On hot days I leave the house fan off and run the air conditioner and have the attic fan on (thermostat controlled 95-100*) and that pulls air from one side of the gable vent and out the other side where the fan is. Leaving the house and attic climates separated. Hope this helps
@Number1redskinfan in the evening and night time hours you can run both together. It will help push the air out faster.
@@qcmanufacturing I did not know that, I will try that tonight 👍🏼
So then… what you’re saying is at night turn the a/c off and then open the windows?
Yes, correct we recommend only running a whole house fan when it’s cooler outside than inside. You still need AC in your system.
What reaction
Customers are experiencing our interactive display to show customers what it feels like to experience a whole house fan. This was there reaction from it
i had one growing up
Did you like it? Where are you from?
"In a couple of minutes INTENSE OVERWHELMING FAN NOISES" who knows what he said after that
Great explanation.
Thank you!!
What if we also have a swamp cooler running. Im in Hesperia CA
You can still run your swamp cooler. I know some customers that use the whole house fan to pull the cool air from the swamp cooler throughout the house.
I wonder how well just the attic fan would help during the day/above a certain temperature in Florida where the sun is extremely hot & doesn’t cool off at night. My builder put a black roof on(?) and didn’t put enough attic vents to save money (they framed vents but didn’t install half of them!) our attic get so hot that the ceiling feel hot even though there’s the proper amount & type of insulation. I tried to go up there one day to do something real quick, that was not happening. It was significantly hotter than a blacked out vehicle in a parking lot all day.
It would make a huge difference. It’s going to be the attic within 5-10 degrees of the outside temp on avg. so even on 100 plus degree days instead of having an attic 150 degrees it will only be 110 degrees and follow it down as the temp drops.
I grew up in a house with an attic fan, in a tropical climate. We did not run it constantly - but often. The only AC we had was in certain rooms and we used it very judiciously. The fan made a HUGE difference. One of my fondest memories as a child, was in summer, after a rain, when the scent of the night-blooming jasmine would fill the whole house.
Thanks for sharing your story. If you like whole house fans you need to try ours out. We make the new modern quiet ones.
I want to install an attic fan and a house 🏠 fan here in the Midwest but every contractor has advised against it Some say there is a danger ‼️ of sucking carbon monoxide up into your house in the summer with this set up..????
Absolutely false, we have sold approximately 1 million fans across the entire USA. We have never had an issue with that. It comes from a lack of understanding.
Totally false! That is an old myth. Sounds like contractors that do not sell them. I have lived in Michigan most of my life. My current house, and my parents last house both have whole house fans. No problems as you state, ever. I highly recommend them for any house.
@jerrygriffin6388 thanks for chiming in and sharing your experiences
How do you know what CFM to choose and need?
We have sizing videos on our CZcams channel. Pretty much depending on your climate zone you want to size your home by 2x-3x CFM per living space. If you live coastal it’s 2 CFM per sq ft. If you live inland or desert it’s 2.5-3 CFM per sq ft. Example if you live near the coast and have a 2000 sq ft home then you need at least 4000 CFM for your system. We have videos that cover this in great detail.
How loud is it on high?
In the attic fan industry there are no decibel ratings because you really can’t hear anything in your home. I wouldn’t be too worried about the noise.
Older, solid mounted and belt driven whole house fans were much quieter and seemed to move much more air than the direct drive options we have today
Have you tried our system out? Our fans are extremely quieter than a traditional fan. We have different models of fans that range from 1500 CFM to 7000 CFM. If you want power you to need to make sure to go with a bigger model.
@@qcmanufacturing I have not. I was talking generally. I will have to check yours out. It’s definitely intriguing.
@STSwhisperer check out our products. We make the best hands down in the industry from quality all the way to bringing them to the 2024 tech age.
That Is Not TRUE You Can install By Your Self As An Owner Of The House And You Donot Need Electrician If You Know How, Donot Lie To People Please I Did My Self A Government Allows Me. Amén.
You can but you need to be handy.
What happened?
He felt the power of a whole house fan hitting him.
This music automatically plays whenever I do work around the house - everything from unclogging toilets to epic remodel projects.
It gets you going lol
Not always true. If you have a loose house it can absolutely pull air from the living space.
Minimum oven temp is around 170 F.
Can you run it with solar only? I don't have any outlets in my attic. I'm mostly concerned about how hot the attic gets during the day so if it doesn't run at night I can live with that.
Yeah, you can only run it with solar and not grid power. It comes with an inverter so you can but you don’t have to use it.
I think you have missed one other location for installation, the garage. When you want to ventilate the house open the windows and the door leading to the garage and close the garage door. When you want to ventilate the attic, open the garage door and keep the windows closed.
Won't that burn out the motor?
If you cover it all the time? Yeah, but that’s not the point of a circulation vent.
If you left it there for a long period of time then yes. But this was for a demonstration to show the power of the fan.
😐😐😐😐
Why the sad face?
have the AFR SLR-40W im going to be installing it on S style roof or Spanish style roof do you have any videos on that type of roof install?
Yes, look on our CZcams channel.
I just ordered and installed this fan. But I totally forgot to install the rubber bumber pads that came with the fan. The bats distracted me. 😢 The fan is way too loud with vibration. So now i have to crawl back in the hot attic to reinstall. 😂
First thing that threw me off was to ensure that the fan bladed spins freely. Does this mean that there is no QC? Second thing ...... he said Motorhead! Long live Lemmy!!
It’s because In shilling sometimes the motor housing can get an out of alignment and you want to check it just to be safe. This is a very rare occasion but we still want to be safe.
How do you fix one when it quits?
Which brand do you have? Most companies make cheap attic fans. Our attic fans have a 15 year warranty. Most likely your motor is burnt out.
Around here venting your house into your attic is a recipe for mold.
Where are you from? On our attic fans we have a Humidistat that won’t allow you to run your fan if it is too humid. You have full control of setting the humidity levels.
Seattle
@anthony10370 we have thousands of happy customers in your market. I would highly recommend it there.
You might get better results by getting the fan near a gable vent, but not right up against it, so that the fan's air can scavenge the air near it, thereby blowing more air out of the attic. This acts in a way similar to how to win a bar bet, by betting someone one can inflate a big trash bag like a balloon by just mouth blowing. The trick is the opponent will press his lips to the bag and suffer, while the other guy will blow from a few inches away, filling up the bag much faster, due to his breath scavenging lots of air around it.
It doesn’t matter where you point the whole house fan in the attic by positive pressure it’s going to force the air out of all the attic vents.
@@qcmanufacturing > It doesn't matter Yes, it absolutely does. While it's true that the fan will draw air up from the living area and blow it out of all the attic vents (plus through leaks in wall top plates and around conduit, etc., back into the living space), you absolutely can blow more air out of the attic by placing the fan near an appropriately large exit hole, with a gap to allow scavenging. I urge you to look up some literature about airflow and scavenging. When I have time, I'll see what I can find to add here.
@planethedgehog2427 we recommend a certain amount ventilation in your attic. Yes, you can bring some air through some leaks if you don’t have proper ventilation. We have lots of videos on this topic on our CZcams Channel. If you follow our recommendations this problem will never happen. We have over 1 millions satisfied customers.
Why would anyone want to have a negative pressure living space full of mold spores, pollen and dust, and outdoor humidity, then also pump those particles and humid air into an enclosure to clog the soffits? In what climate zone would this work, where it is so hot you would do this to prolong the life of a roof?
I don’t think you understand the concept. You only run it when it’s cooler outside than inside. You’re bringing in fresh air from outside into your living space and then up into your attic and out your attic vents. Outside air is 3x-5x cleaner than inside your home. You also don’t want to run it when it’s too humid either.
Why not route the whole house fan outside the attic?
We make a roof mounted whole house fan the directs to the outside for homes that don’t have attics or sealed attics. We typically have the ducted whole house fan push the air into the attic space to cool the attic. The attic is the hottest part of the house and by pushing the hot air out of the attic by pressure it makes the attic balanced to the outside temp.
I just moved into a house and an attic fan was in our top floor but not in the attic. I think it may work by bring air from the house, bringing it into the attic and then it comes out of some thing on the roof (i think) and goes through our windows and it also takes hot air from the house and makes it into cold air. Can you make a video of how these kind of attic fans work?
Are you referring to a ducted whole house fan?
@@qcmanufacturingyes. It sits right in front of my room and I’m pretty sure that’s why I have an attic entrance in my room. I have never gone up there but I wish I could before I move out 😂
Cutting the studs is NOT advisable. Whoever is watching this video should continue doing research until you identify a path that does not affect wall structural components.
Attic fans do cool your house down. They remove the heat from your attic s which allows heat from the house to escape. Otherwise, you create a greenhouse effect and your house continually heats up. Just an attic fan alone will keep your house 10-15 cooler than without. Not a major help but instead of 100 outside and 90 inside, you can be at 80 inside without running anything else. Very nice to have in the SW and SoCal with electric prices
Someone knows their stuff pretty good. You’re pretty spot on.
@@qcmanufacturing lol I’m a scientist. But yeah, living in SoCal I bring my work home to save money and make my home more comfortable and efficient and the QC whole home and attic fans have been the best I’ve found
Why do you open your windows so much? Doesn’t that significantly decrease the cooling ability across the whole home?
It doesn’t matter if you open the window partially or all the way. You will still get the same amount of air flow. What you’re referring to is feeling the velocity of wind shooting through the window. The more you open the window the less velocity of the breeze you will feel. It’s all preference for the homeowner. Great question though
@@qcmanufacturing that’s not how air pressure works though. And I’d definitely request that you do an impartial temperature review of the same amount of windows opened, one cracked and one what you did… then temperature readings in each room… especially the rooms further away from the fan. If there is too little pressure, the further windows will NOT be able to get the same performance as the more open windows. I ask you do a video because I have done the tests with a kestrel in my own home to make sure I was doing it right.
What kind of adhesive??
I think im confused. So we install a fan in the attic to pull air out of the house, through the insulated attic? I would assume the attic is hotter than the house during summer, and colder during winter. If you are looking to cool off in the summer, how would the fan help you by taking colder air from inside the house and putting it in the attic? If you have airconditioning, this is the stupidest hack I've seen yet.
Every morning, evening and night there is a huge temperature swing. It can be up to 50 degrees depending on where you live. You only run this product when it’s cooler outside than inside your home. The air will be pulled in through open windows into the living space and then up into the attic and then out your attic vents giving you a complete air exchange every 3-4 min. This allows you to cut your ac usage in half which is your most expensive appliance to run and replace. The is the ventilation systems you need in your HVAC system. Most people don’t have any ventilation products. There are a ton benefits that I’m not mentioning but just giving you the general how it works understanding.
From what I understand most attics or all have some kind of vents... Cold airikes to sink as hot air rises. If you turn on the ac, using the attic fan will help by pushing the hot air out and slow down the time it takes to cool a house down... Also can be used if the air outside is cooler
Great videos
Thank you!! We have a ton of great content on our CZcams page.
This channel has been a gold mine for info I’ve been able to use to keep my home cool. I’ve saved so much money this year already since I’ve had my fan installed vs. last year
Does 16" metal duct fit this enclosure (minus the grille) for extending the draw point or creating an in-line situation?
I’m confused on what you mean. This product has no metal duct. Are you talking about the metal housing?
Plus foam the joist 😏
No need… like… at all….
I found it easier to slide up and remove it from mounting plate. Easier to remove face plate accessing batteries. Might depend on your installation area
