    What you have done here sir is nothing short of a work of art!! I hope your proud of your work, as you deserve to be, very well done,, 👍 I was thinking of doing something like this but in 1/12th scale for a nativity scene I'm doing, but with stone. I'm going to attempt marking and cutting a suitable flag stone leaving the natural grain facing out, and cut different size strips off it and break them in to smaller pieces, or stones!! And then build my wall with grout for mortar like you did. It's a tedious way of doing things but worth it!! I've already made 1000 Roman roof tiles from cornflakes box cardboard cut in to squares of inch and a half x inch, then soaked in water and each one lightly taped over some lengths of half inch wooden dowel before being left to dry and take the shape, followed by hand painting. The effort shows though.

    Dont be bitter Don it is a good technique. AND THE RESULTS ARE EXCELLENT. Have a cuppa and forget for now. I LIKE YOUR LOW COST PRACTICAL approach to making dioramas. MINIART is fab and not too expensive but your methods are a lot easier and besides Miniart make great accessory kits which can be incorporated into one's designs. Always a pleasure to watch you making magic from old cardboard boxes and bits n bobs. Reminds me of Tony Hart and morph. LOVE THE CHANNEL. 😊.

    That was a brilliant video. Like you say, if you choose modelling as a hobby then things like this that take a lot of time are satisfying in their own way. We all want to see the fruits of our labours, but - well I think - there's no great rush.
    That's the mindset I have when I'm riding my Royal Enfield the 200 miles up to the isle of Skye. The journey is just as important as the destination.
    Hopefully my my like, comment and subscription helps with your algorithm.

  • @PeteMorganPCPeteUK

    Hi Don,
    love your build tutorials and have used the barbed wire a lot - thanks. However, I'm struggling to join sheets of the homemade bricks together to make proper corners. I know it's me but they look awful.
    I just can't get them to look real.
    How do you do it bud???

    • @nanplabwern
      @nanplabwern  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Yes, corners are a problem. I stick the bricks beyond the corner every other row. It's not easy to explain here so I will make a video next week showing how.

  • @mooz8510
    @mooz8510 Před 7 měsíci

    How you do. A couple of questions. Are you doing anything else to your card other than coating it in wall filler? As my card warped as the filler dried, I put a heavy weight on it to flatten it a bit. It also warped once I glued the bricks down. Also, I found out I'm rubbish at eye balling measurments 😂 Any advice on how to measure them once the wet grout is on?

    • @nanplabwern
      @nanplabwern  Před 7 měsíci

      I use 2mm thick card, I seal it with slightly watered down wall filler then add the tile grout mixed with PVA glue. The grout should be the consistency of margarine, not too wet but spreadable. Hope this helps.

    • @nanplabwern
      @nanplabwern  Před 7 měsíci

      As regards measurement you will have to use a ruler to get the 3mm x 7mm size for 1/35 scale bricks.

  • @mikehayler2465
    @mikehayler2465 Před rokem

    Good video. Question though, your building of brick wall has 4mm dimension facing. Should this not be the 2mm dimension facing. Unless you are putting a brick facia on a wall and not actually building a brick wall

    • @nanplabwern
      @nanplabwern  Před rokem

      Yes, you're quite right, it's just easier to lay the bricks flat down as it were.

    Hi Don, why do a video where you use styrofoam for making brick walls, just for comparative purposes.

  • @JayDiamond-hv5tc
    @JayDiamond-hv5tc Před rokem

    Fantastic method, would love to try it, however as mentioned in another comment I would like to see a styrofoam comparison in the same video. Also, you don’t need any background music (it is a bit irritating with the plinky plonk piano). I would much prefer just to hear commentary and the actual making of the wall.

    • @nanplabwern
      @nanplabwern  Před rokem

      You're in luck, l don't use background music anymore but l can't get on with styrofoam so rarely use it.

  • @robertosborne8763
    @robertosborne8763 Před rokem

    A lot of work, but we’ll worth it for the realistic look. Others may go for the shortcut method, but it will not look as good as what you have produced.
    Do you need me to send you some new background music?

    • @nanplabwern
      @nanplabwern  Před rokem +1

      I chose the music from a library of tens of thousands of clips although l must confess l chose the first one.

    Just a bit of constructive feedback: your view stats are probably so low because you go through every step in far too much detail. This vid could have been 6 minutes long. Not trying to be negative but people these days won't watch a 23min video.
