- Chassis 0181 is one of just 19 Aston Martin DB4 GT cars that is clothed in the infamous Zagato coachwork. Furthermore, of those 19, only seven were left-hand drive examples, of which this is one. 0181, being special for both its body type and left-hand drive configuration is rendered even more special by the fact that it was made for and purchased by Dr Elio Zagato, son of the Zagato company’s founder. In 1984 I had the opportunity to buy a Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato, the price was £75,000. I can still remember making the phone call, it was the first time I had called to a car phone.
I decided to buy a 1970 DB6 Mk2.
On reflection perhaps not one of my better decisions.
But I'd still like one. An original.
I think this is one of the most beautiful cars ever made, together with the Ferrari 275 and 250 GTO cars. Just stunning pieces of art. Priceless. Thank you for your video

Just as a point of fact, not wishing to be disingenuous and not to take anything away from this excellent video ( hopefully that's enough groveling to fend off any unwanted personal attacks, unless of course, Trump's a car guy? ) The DB4GT Zagato was originally announced in October 1960 and only 19 VIN numbers were originally allocated. Of the 19, Aston Martin only produced 15 cars. If you wanted one of these magnificent pieces of automotive art, you put in your order, along with 50% of the purchase price as a deposit and 12 months later ( hopefully ) you got your car? ( Given Astons fortunes at the time? I'd wager a purchase with 50% down, was not for the faint of heart?? I'd go as far as to say it was a huge leap of faith?? ) There were only 15 pre ordered cars between 1960 and 1963. So that's all Aston Martin built. 1990 Aston Martin announced it was gonna finish the build schedule and build the remaining three cars, under the supervision of R.S. Williams. ( R.S. Williams was a former Aston Martin Works Team Manager ). The 1990 cars were called Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato Sanction II productions. Two of the three cars were presold to private parties for an undisclosed amount and the third was offered up for sale and sold for an undisclosed amount. Given current prices for these cars, whatever they sold for in 1990 they would be a veritable bargain compared to what they currently sell for. In 1970 I bought a DB4 for $4K, around the same time there was a Ferrari GTO for sale for $10K USD and an AM DB4GT Zag for sale for $6K USD ( those quoted prices are from memory? ) . If only I'da had the extra dough??? Who knew?? I don't suppose anybody cares, but just for the record, given the choice? I'da bought the Zag .... Ferrari schamerrari??
And they’re doing it again with the continuation programme although you get a DBS Zagato as well for the price of about $10m!

Was the zagato...never driven produced ..in the UK...to drive on our roads ?? As it's a left hand drive ....I thought as it's a Brit/ Italy ...concept ...the Aston Martin.. legato..would be produced with a right hand drive ?? Melanie 34 🌈
