I'm a 65 yo retiree born and raised in southeast Mississippi...needless to say christian fundamentalism rules the day...but I care not for any of it, b/c I've seen firsthand how it seems to bring out the worst in people...the sanctimonious, self-righteousness...the divisiveness and alienation...I guess you could say I've always had a more pantheistic, mystic type relationship with the cosmos...unitive consciousness...it's the only consciousness that makes any sense...non-dual...I'm convinced Jesus himself was a mystic...I will probably never "see" any other way...there are many of you out there that know what I'm talking about.

You can call the Infinite Jaweh, God, Allah or Beloved, in the end it’s Love underneath all ‘religions’ which in my eyes isn’t the real. The cosmos is made of Love.

Spinoza's God is called as BRAHAMAN in Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) or consciousness that pervades in the universe and we are part of it and it exists in every one of us.. 7th century mystic in India Sri Shankaracharya came up with a philosophy called Advaita (Non dual). If any one is interested pl watch Swami Saravpriyananda's talk on Advaita in you tube.

Or A Course in Miracles if you lean more toward Christian beliefs. Both of these works teach that God is unity, all that exists. And everything in all of infinite creation IS the creator, including you and me. These two books have changed everything for me.

This is absolutely correct, although Buddhism is not monolithic and has unfortunately been co-opted by the many schools and offshoots of these schools which frequently have their own unique interpretation of what Buddhism is all about. If we stick to the basics, the Core Concepts for managing our thoughts and behavior, we will make huge improvements in the world. Think of Buddhism as an early version of psychology, the study of the mind, with “psychoanalysis”, or looking at the causes of our problems (“suffering”), and psychotherapy, the cures for our mental afflictions like anger, hate, selfish desire, resentment, jealousy, etc. Buddhism is the answer, but it is not a magic pill, requiring study and hard work to change many years of cultural distorted perceptions of what is important in life. The people who contributed most to Einstein’s success were Christians. Einstein himself regarded James Clerk Maxwell as the greatest physicist ever. It was Maxwell, who in developing the equations of electromagnetism, first realized the key that Einstein would use to describe special and general relativity - I.e. that the relative speed of light in a vacuum is a constant. Maxwell was a devout Christian. Then the first physicist who took Einstein’s work on relativity seriously, and accepted his papers to publish them was no other than Max Planck, again an actively Christian believer, who wrote on the compatibility and non-conflict between science and religion (Einstein wrote a similar essay, that said religion and science are not in conflict, but are complimentary ways of understanding the universe). And the man who gave Einstein the mathematics to calculate the formulae of relativity was Hendrick Lorentz, who though raised Protestant, became a practicing Catholic. Without these three Einstein would neither have had the theoretical nor mathematical substance to figure out - and then publish on - Relativity. Einstein was a truly great physicist, but his pronouncements on religion always appeared couched in whatever was convenient at the time. But his three greatest enablers - Maxwell, Lorentz and Planck - were all practicing Christians. Of the 225 individuals awarded the 117 Nobel prizes awarded to date, three have been Buddhist. I’ve studied Buddhism. It doesn’t make sense for Buddhism to be an encouragement to scientific inquiry, because Buddhism teaches that all earthly interests and desires lead one away from Nirvana/ to become nothing - which is achieved only by giving up any interest that would attach you to this world and it’s sufferings. That contradicts what you need to do to be a great physicist, which requires a person to be enthralled by the attempt to understand the physical nature of world. Those two goals are incompatible.
And even Buddhisme is Not a religion…..
That is a great contradiction. Einstein stated clearly and many times, that he was interested in understanding God’s thoughts, and everything outside this had no
meaning to him. Buddhism depending on who you talk to either denies there is a God, or (as far as I could tell in my study of Buddhism) denies there is any importance to God or understanding God. To Einstein, his reason for his interest in physics was to understand God - an entity Buddhism either denies exists or denies being worth our
attention. Buddhism has many, many beautiful artifacts - particularly temples and art - but I get the sense many, like Einstein, who praise Buddhism have not actually looked critically and seriously at what Buddhism teaches. And if someone really understood the cosmology taught in the Bible, and understood the cosmology of Hinduism, they wouldn’t find these two
religions as drastically alien as we seem to find them. I say that as a believing Christian who has studied Hinduism (and Buddhism) in a formal secular academic setting.

Understanding God as the sum of all that exists is clearly what Albert Einstein meant in his famous quotes where he invoked God along with his scientific observations . Einstein used “ God “ as a poetic short hand for nature .

Imagine yourself sharing every portion of yourself, the small atoms sharing between and the different organs sharing to reveal the human body, the mind shared from the differences of the universe in a matrix like structure so that we can reflect the difference or embody them. Imagine how we are right now, not ourselves but sharing with the universe. That is god. God does not deny, it’s not a guy in the sky but rather it is nothing itself so it is able to be everything. If i share my mind with the unconscious then i bring consciousness to it and change things by listening or paying attention. God shares everything so it is not itself but rather everything exploring and that’s why free will exists, there is no god dictating but rather sharing everything. That’s why we are just a simple pattern right now until we understand and recognize and then we can expand instead of denying things that are because we believe they aren’t. We can see the differences, the knowledge OF good and evil but that doesn’t make things good and evil. We got lost because of how close we are to all this. If i wanted to be everything then i wouldn’t take or give, i would share. Quantum mechanics reveals this sharing and so does evolution. It’s not just a theory because you undergo changes and are different every day and if you don’t understand look at old pictures, you were different. That’s why people are talking about fluid identity and stuff, they are confused and lost when they don’t understand.

My new understandings of what many call 'God -The Holy Spirit' - resulting from some of the extraordinary ongoing after-effects relating to my NDE, when I was struck by lightning during September 1970.
Myoho-Renge-Kyo represents the identity of what some scientists are now referring to as the unified field of consciousnesses. In other words, it’s the essence of all existence and non-existence - the ultimate creative force behind planets, stars, nebulae, people, animals, trees, fish, birds, and all phenomena, manifest or latent. All matter and intelligence are simply waves or ripples manifesting to and from this core source. Consciousness (enlightenment) is itself the actual creator of everything that exists now, ever existed in the past, or will exist in the future - right down to the minutest particles of dust - each being an individual ripple or wave.
The big difference between chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo and most other conventional prayers is that instead of depending on a ‘middleman’ to connect us to our state of inner enlightenment, we’re able to do it ourselves. That’s because chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo allows us to tap directly into our enlightened state by way of this self-produced sound vibration. ‘Who or What Is God?’ If we compare the concept of God being a separate entity that is forever watching down on us, to the teachings of Nichiren, it makes more sense to me that the true omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence of what most people perceive to be God, is the fantastic state of enlightenment that exists within each of us. Some say that God is an entity that’s beyond physical matter - I think that the vast amount of information continuously being conveyed via electromagnetic waves in today’s world gives us proof of how an invisible state of God could indeed exist.
For example, it’s now widely known that specific data relayed by way of electromagnetic waves has the potential to help bring about extraordinary and powerful effects - including an instant global awareness of something or a mass emotional reaction. It’s also common knowledge that these invisible waves can easily be used to detonate a bomb or to enable NASA to control the movements of a robot as far away as the Moon or Mars - none of which is possible without a receiver to decode the information that’s being transmitted. Without the receiver, the data would remain impotent. In a very similar way, we need to have our own ‘receiver’ switched on so that we can activate a clear and precise understanding of our own life, all other life and what everything else in existence is.
Chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo each day helps us to achieve this because it allows us to reach the core of our enlightenment and keep it switched on. That’s because Myoho-Renge-Kyo represents the identity of what scientists now refer to as the unified field of consciousnesses. To break it down - Myoho represents the Law of manifestation and latency (Nature) and consists of two alternating states. For example, the state of Myo is where everything in life that’s not obvious to us exists - including our stored memories when we’re not thinking about them - our hidden potential and inner emotions whenever they’re dormant - our desires, our fears, our wisdom, happiness, karma - and more importantly, our enlightenment.
The other state, ho, is where everything in Life exists whenever it becomes evident to us, such as when a thought pops up from within our memory - whenever we experience or express our emotions - or whenever a good or bad cause manifests as an effect from our karma. When anything becomes apparent, it merely means that it’s come out of the state of Myo (dormancy/latency) and into a state of ho (manifestation). It’s the difference between consciousness and unconsciousness, being awake or asleep, or knowing and not knowing.
The second law - Renge - Ren meaning cause and ge meaning effect, governs and controls the functions of Myoho - these two laws of Myoho and Renge, not only function together simultaneously but also underlies all spiritual and physical existence.
The final and third part of the tri-combination - Kyo, is the Law that allows Myoho to integrate with Renge - or vice versa. It’s the great, invisible thread of energy that fuses and connects all Life and matter - as well as the past, present and future. It’s also sometimes termed the Universal Law of Communication - perhaps it could even be compared with the string theory that many scientists now suspect exists.
Just as the cells in our body, our thoughts, feelings and everything else is continually fluctuating within us - all that exists in the world around us and beyond is also in a constant state of flux - constantly controlled by these three fundamental laws. In fact, more things are going back and forth between the two states of Myo and ho in a single moment than it would ever be possible to calculate or describe. And it doesn’t matter how big or small, famous or trivial anything or anyone may appear to be, everything that’s ever existed in the past, exists now or will exist in the future, exists only because of the workings of the Laws ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’ - the basis of the four fundamental forces, and if they didn’t function, neither we nor anything else could go on existing. That’s because all forms of existence, including the seasons, day, night, birth, death and so on, are moving forward in an ongoing flow of continuation - rhythmically reverting back and forth between the two fundamental states of Myo and ho in absolute accordance with Renge - and by way of Kyo. Even stars are dying and being reborn under the workings of what the combination ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’ represents. Nam, or Namu - which mean the same thing, are vibrational passwords or keys that allow us to reach deep into our life and fuse with or become one with ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’.
On a more personal level, nothing ever happens by chance or coincidence, it’s the causes that we’ve made in our past, or are presently making, that determine how these laws function uniquely in each of our lives - as well as the environment from moment to moment. By facing east, in harmony with the direction that the Earth is spinning, and chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo for a minimum of, let’s say, ten minutes daily to start with, any of us can experience actual proof of its positive effects in our lives - even if it only makes us feel good on the inside, there will be a definite positive effect. That’s because we’re able to pierce through the thickest layers of our karma and activate our inherent Buddha Nature (our enlightened state). By so doing, we’re then able to bring forth the wisdom and good fortune that we need to challenge, overcome and change our adverse circumstances - turn them into positive ones - or manifest and gain even greater fulfilment in our daily lives from our accumulated good karma. This also allows us to bring forth the wisdom that can free us from the ignorance and stupidity that’s preventing us from accepting and being proud of the person that we indeed are - regardless of our race, colour, gender or sexuality. We’re also able to see and understand our circumstances and the environment far more clearly, as well as attract and connect with any needed external beneficial forces and situations. As I’ve already mentioned, everything is subject to the law of Cause and Effect - the ‘actual-proof-strength’ resulting from chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo always depends on our determination, sincerity and dedication.
For example, the levels of difference could be compared to making a sound on a piano, creating a melody, producing a great song, and so on. Something else that’s very important to always respect and acknowledge is that the Law (or if you prefer God) is in everyone and everything.
NB: There are frightening and disturbing sounds, and there are tranquil and relaxing sounds. It’s the emotional result of any noise or sound that can trigger off a mood or even instantly change one. When chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo each day, we are producing a sound vibration that’s the password to our true inner-self - this soon becomes apparent when you start reassessing your views on various things - such as your fears and desires etc. The best way to get the desired result when chanting is not to view things conventionally - rather than reaching out to an external source, we need to reach into our own lives and bring our needs and desires to fruition from within - including the good fortune and strength to achieve any help that we may need. Chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo also reaches out externally and draws us towards, or draws towards us, what we need to make us happy from our environment. For example, it helps us to be in the right place at the right time - to make better choices and decisions and so forth. We need to think of it as a seed within us that we’re watering and bringing sunshine to for it to grow, blossom and bring forth fruit or flowers. It’s also important to understand that everything we need in life, including the answer to every question and the potential to achieve every dream, already exists within us.

--Universe is the totality of everything that exists. If everything that exists is 'God' then 'God' is the universe. Why use an extra label?
--If everything in the universe is governed by infallible laws then, our behavior/decisions/actions are inevitably in accordance with them, no matter whether we know this or not.
--If living in harmony with the infallible laws of the universe is freedom then, we are always free no matter whether we know this or not.

This reminds me alot of what Alan Watts used to teach.
The contemporary Synagogue that coincidentally coexisted with the pantheistic or rationalistic philosopher Spinoza was centuries behind the mind or consciousness level of the philosopher Spinoza’s theory of God or nature. Therefore, it was but natural for the synagogue to oppose the idea that the philosopher embraced in rejecting the traditional view of Pentateuch presented in genesis to the people and explained the creation of the universe by the transcendent God. Spinoza was a monoist who saw the God and the nature as an inseparably single entity.
Here, we see the most shocking challenge to the biblical narrative of God and the nature that Bible teaches to the people. The rationale behind the theory of the philosopher was against the anthropomorphic nature of God because Spinoza didn’t believe in the personal deity that interfered with the human or their earthly lives or affairs.
The ethical theory of the philosopher excludes the deity from the human parameters of good and bad. This means that the two sides held distinct views on the same subject. Spinoza’s theory is the antithesis of the genesis and its conclusion on how the universe originally came into being and who began it.
Nevertheless, the Spinoza’s theory continues to bother the synagogue and the church; and they also observe silence as well, because in the silence they see the advantage and if they confront the philosophy of the Bruch Spinoza, they may be inviting trouble and they may avoid it.

The Judeo-Christian is properly understood to be panentheistic vice pantheistic. The God of the Bible is not everything, but directly supports and enables everything. The universe exists as a thought in God’s mind. God fully holds all of the universe together, from moment to moment. And so what we observe reflects God’s thoughts. But got, while creating and sustaining the universe, exists infinitely beyond the time and space that we can observe.
Philosophy strives to understand reality, religion strives to escape it.

Spinoza's 'treatise on the emendation of the intellect' (sometimes called 'on the improvement of the understanding') I find to be his most accessible work. It's very short, but it teaches a lot of the basics of philosophy.

He got a lot right but he got a few things wrong. I was an atheist for my first forty years until God came to me. After a while, I looked back and realized that God had led me all along. God ensured that I am one quarter Native American and was taught about the environment. This is because our greatest problem right now is the climate crisis that is soon to end the world as we know it.
God also ensured that I was educated in physics so that I would see that God is in everything and even to understand that the physical would not exist without God. The reason is that neither matter nor energy can be created or destroyed. Yet, they were both created to create the physical in which we live
At first, I thought of becoming an animist because God is in all things. But then I realized that there is much more to consider.
Next, I thought of becoming a pantheist until I found out that they don't believe in prayer. Spinoza got that wrong. Prayers can cause change brought about by God who I prefer to call the Great Spirit. The old man in a white robe is not who God is. That is man's conception. God is pure spirit until God decides to make Itself/Themselves physical.
After searching for the perfect religion or spirituality, I realized that the seven grandfather teachings and the words of Jesus are perfect. I don't believe in all of the Bible though. Man had his hand in all of the holy books.

Free will comes from the sharing. If god had a plan and we were forced to follow it then we wouldn’t be free but since God is nothing because it shares all, god IS everything at the same time as nothing because it’s sharing to reveal between. Same as we predict using differences, we don’t see it as between but it’s between nothing and infinite and relativity shows us we can expand our differences and expand the matrix. Not matrix as simulation but matrix like a rubix cube. This planet is a matrix of things and we are emergent from this matrix. We travel and share to expand and explore and grow. The bubble of the multiverse isn’t just like a bubble, we are a bubble containing and sharing. The multiverse is what we see but we are the differences predicted and predicting and revealing/sharing in differences themselves. We see God in everything because we were shared the knowledge of god just like good and evil and that’s why we shouldn’t judge or believe one thing is god, because nothing IS good or evil, nothing IS God because that would be like denying the rest of god or what could be because we don’t believe or see a path. If god truly exists then it would probably sacrifice itself to share everything or in other words allow reality to bloom with freedom. That’s why no one thing IS God but we can share it with everything.

this is so beautiful but i am troubled by its' lack of accounting for malice , selfishness ,ignorance and the adoration of oneself above everything --I can be united with the transcendence of the matter and energy of all things ,,,,however . if conatus impels us to make the best choice for ourselves , what is to say that that choice is the best choice for our communities ? i'm sure that many billionaires have felt they've made the best choices for themselves and to my point, you can say that some/ all billionaires have not acheived union with the universe but that is also true of a greater majority of our species ---further, seeing the universe as divine is swell but in truth , the universe is out to kill us all ,,,,,and , to date, it has an impressive track record--if we leave this planet, we die--if a single gamma ray comes hurtling across the galaxy , we and the planet are ash and everything that humanity has done and accomplished to 300,000 years evaporated as well ---we deserve comfort when our children die , when we are in despair , when we live through the everyday atrocities of history and yet ....the universe answers us with mystery.....and silence .........I don't have any answers , just questions

Good video! But damn so many gods. Spinoza's, Plato's, the diests, Abraham's El Elyon, Moses's Yahweh, Greek gods, Hindu gods and hundreds and thousands more. Every time someone says God you know they haven't thought about God for ten minutes. And I do believe there are being out there. Someday we'll start studying them. Unfortunately not during my life.

Spinoza does not equate the God with the Universe. The Universe is just one expression of God. Said differently, the Universe is an infinitely small subset of the God. Spinoza's God has much more attributes than the Universe. Also, the immortality of soul is a derivation within Spinoza's philosophy, which for modern science is a tabu. There are many other differences between what modern science claims and Spinoza's philosophy.

It is difficult to believe in an identity that is not proven to exist. As a species we have control of our personal future to a certain extent, and at other times do not have control of things outside of our influence. That is why I find prayer a useless endeavour.
