I really appreciate Penn's full understanding of what societal problems built this whole story and his character. Women who are abused by men like this are often called crazy because no one wants to deal with how common a lot of this stalker behavior is from men.
Finally an actor has a dull understanding of the issues presented in the stories they tell

I dont think the bad guy is necessarily "glorified". The bad guy is just more relatable because hes imperfect. The good guy is too unrealistic to attain long term. If it that makes sense
people ''like bad boys'' and acertiviviness, confidence, dominance, masculinity.. abusers are the extremes toxic manifestations of those ideals. Edit: abusers are also insecure, bad at communicating and handling their emotions, entitlement and anger of course not only trying to be a certain way, they genuinely have issues.
I definitely don’t believe Joe is glorified: in the show - but the fact that Joe has a hoard of admires in Real life, and women who are begging him to shove them in a cage... is more what Penn is speaking to.

Well I agree on the health ledger joker because joker made some good points about society in general and proving to us that most humans follow their own instincts instead of rules but yeah Joe although very interesting I am not rooting for him he needs to die.. @@Shadow_Blazer i agree lol i wasnt necessarily rooting for Joe. But i did root for him in small moments, or at least hope he doesn't get caught. Especially when it comes to Benji lol fuck that guy. But its also the fact im very aware its a story, and in order for it to go forward, Joe needs to survive. Lol with all that being said I've only seen the first season. Near the end his character unfolding a whole fuckin lot and its like wow, i guess he is a serial killer. Not a one time deal haha.

In life, obviously these things are horrifying but this is ficrion lol It also just depends, in some movies the bad guy is the main character and you're so entertained by his/her "crazyness" but you're still thinkin "Somebody needs to take this guy out" lol
But with Joe, in particular i was definitely rooting for him. Especially Benji being the definition of a douche lol and Joes girlfriends best friend being such a bitch(i forget the two girls names, sorry) haha but again, only seen the first season. Second/third season might change my mind haha.

I don’t think Joe being handsome has much to do with people liking the protagonist. Look at Dexter and Breaking Bad. Not traditionally handsome guys and yet fans loved them.
Dexter was hot. It is reflective on society because as people we do give more attractive people more of a chance. Walter white got a pass bc he had cancer and good intentions (at first)
While many of us live in the confines of what's social acceptable they live without rules. It's hard to look away, these characters have endless possibilities. At least that is my take on the fascination with sociopaths.
Dexter's choice of prey is what allowed him to be likable. If he wasn't going after bad guys, then he wouldn't have been as accepted.

The truth is if his character in YOU looked like Usher or Trey Songz then the audience would be fangirling over him in exactly the same way. It's based on what people perceive to be ATTRACTIVE and not race in my opinion. At the end of the day it's a TV show and handsome villains have always been the focus of teenage crushes as well as admiration and that's because we're all well aware that he's a FICTIONAL character. These shows are a huge part of our escapism so I wish Penn would give the audience some credit. It's not like they're adoring an actual serial killer. Joe is a TV character for goodness sake. Penn takes it all so seriously
