- I returned to the creek I recently discovered for some more multispecies ultralight action... This time, however, I brought a fly rod! This fly rod is legit the ultralight of fly fishing! It was custom-built for me by my friend Chris! This is a 3wt 5'8 glass rod and it is freaking amazing.

I explored the heck out of this creek and found some seriously good looking water. Unfortunately, I couldn't get into the caliber of fish I was hoping to so I decided to switch to my "Plan B" which ultimately paid off big time! Some really nice Bluegill, Green Sunfish, and a few small bass. Talk about a good time! Also - all the fish were on a Popper! Topwater is the best way to fish, we can all agree there :)

People still don't understand that when you're fishing your not in a flw tour,if you are in a competition by all means use a heavier gear but for having fun use ultralight you don't regret it is a blast

Awesome awesome day with the custom 3wt fly rod, courtesy of Chris. It looked like a great rod and so cool that Chris made it custom for you. I thought you were going to get i to some nice ones at the creek that you fished at the time before. Glad you went to your backup creek (always nice to have backups) and got into some steady action. Finally got the fly in front of the biggun before the more aggressive little guys could get their mouth on it. As you know, I absolutely love this kind of fishing too Ethan. Maybe someday we can fish together with our UL rods for some mega panfish action!
We both love UL fishing. We both love BFS. We both experiment with Fly Fishing (you are better than I). And we both love bass & trout. Honestly, we have to fish.
Heck yeah buddy we do! I think we could go anywhere and fish for anything and have a great time. Someday soon maybe 🤞
Hey Ethan! Look at you rippin lips on the fly! That's a beautiful rod. I was wondering where it disappeared to... I'm Chris's fiancee. 😄 What a crazy surprise! 💕 Something that helps me is remembering to keep your thumb on the top of the grip (not your index finger) & not letting your reel turn inward. You did awesome though! 😀

And that is a great tip - I definitely never think about my form. I just goof off and try to catch fish. Probably need to work on the little technical stuff!

I’ve a creek that has good fishing in it like that, but I only can fish it in winter to early spring because otherwise the snakes there are just really thick 👀…
Definitely appreciate Michigan for the lack of snakes. Kansas creeks always had a ton of snakes when I explored them growing up.

I had a 9' 5wt llbean that I fished everything with but recently i picked up a 6'6" eagle claw fiberglass rod and it's amazing for panfish and bass!

I went out and fly fished with the fly combo my grampa gave me and I caught tons of bluegills. Its a 9 ft 5/6 weight scientific anglers fly combo. It is so much fun to fly fish on shore. I wish I had stuff to tie my own flies.

If you have vice grips i use a full size vice grip that hold a needle nose vise grip or needle nose grippers
(Bfs junky)That's the perfect rig for creek stalking....I use a 6'6" 2 wt which I use for the same style of fishing. Little black foam beatles slay for me....Good Times!!

I can't say I have any recommendations lol I have no idea what I am doing! I think that depends on your fly rod size. What rod weight do you have?
How far were you casting?
Most of my casts were only about 20 feet or so. I can go further but it was small creek fishing so it was pretty tight.

That was a sweet video and you got some good bend in that glass rod! That rod and popper combo was destined to catch pretty fish. This is one I got while testing the rod.
