  • In this episode, I begin working on the 1990 Suburban project that I picked up. I discover it has a fairly expensive small block Chevy 383 stroker crate engine but it has seized due to sitting out in the weather for many years. I work on getting it unseized and sorting out numerous other issues that are preventing it from running.

    I have an '87 Suburban with a 383 stroker. After watching your junkyard LQ4 recovery I had to run down the road to Kenney U Pull to see what they had. Hopefully it'll be on the road next spring.

    Great you got her working. I was worried at the beginning, but well done. Congrats on the 5K (plus) subs, and all those views! 2020 ends on a high note with this running.

      @@LowbuckLS thanks means a lot, it's a lot of fun, and I trust we've both met some great people around youtube. Did you see the 2020 burnout challenge going around? I was half thinking you might do that at the end.... haha

      @@RoyMarkosGarageRMG I did hear about the burnout challenge and didn't think of that but yeah that would have been a great way to end lol

    Awesome Randy! Way to stay after it 👍👍 All the wiring and weird stuff in that thing screams trailer park engine swap and subsequent repossession :D

      Thanks Jess, yeah I wish I knew more of the history of this thing but yeah there was definitely some sketchy work done. Been following your off-road trailer build, nice work! I’m going to build some sleeping platforms and storage in the back of this Suburban once I get the mechanical issues sorted.

      @Lowbuck LS Thanks Randy. Our goal is to camp in it this year. I'm looking forward to seeing your conversion on the Burb :) 👍👍

    it's a wonder that the previous owner didn't burn that thing down. Nice work and nice score on the engine with the Suburban!!

    My concern would be, if it's a flat tappet cam, did the engine builder do a break in, or does it need a break in run ? Great job getting it running, especially outside in the cold !

    • @LowbuckLS
      @LowbuckLS  Před 3 lety

      That's a good point, maybe I should put some break-in additive in before I run it again.

    That is awesome you might not need to swap it!

    • @LowbuckLS
      @LowbuckLS  Před 3 lety

      Yes we’ll have to see how this engine does for sure, I think we’ll still do an LS swap eventually but will give this engine a chance first

    Are those scorpion big body roller rockers??

    • @LowbuckLS
      @LowbuckLS  Před 3 lety

      They are definitely Scorpion roller rockers, not sure if they are big body or not, I’m not familiar with them, haven’t done much SBC stuff

    You really need a garage to work in standing outside talking to the camera has got to be cold.

  • @HeadFlowInc
    @HeadFlowInc Před 3 lety +1

    You seriously never put an air cleaner on it? This can’t be possible 🤷‍♂️
    Why wouldn’t you cover the engine? You potentially got a great deal and you did the same thing as the last owner. I’m totally confused!

    • @LowbuckLS
      @LowbuckLS  Před 3 lety

      Yes I should have covered the engine, I do have it covered now. Just didn’t think about it at the time. It already had water in the engine so I don’t think I did any more damage but yes that was a lapse in judgment on my part.
