I remember seeing a video many years ago with Matt telling guitarists to use the pinky, hard as it may be, and never exclude it and he practices what he preaches. That pinky is flying in the end solo. I have always made it a point to keep up that pinky dexterity for the guitar and the shocker.

If I recall he was more than willing to record this song, but he didn't have the stamina to do it in a single take so he wanted to take a quick break before attempting it again. So after his break he returned in the middle of Corey recording his parts for him lmao.

He uses a different technique on twitch and live bc it’s less straining on his voice he still uses the harsher technique on the albums though
there are too many transitions from one place to another didn't really like that couldn't focus on one thing.
