      I try to do this when showing multiple watches on screen, as it makes the presentation less distracting when everything is lined up, and easier to focus on the talking points - at least in my opinion.

    Great review! I've got a few older ( late 70's) 6309-7040 & 6309-7049 turtles that I modded over the years that just make me happy for the price paid, when looing for the new turtle I found the blue dial on a bracelet for the great price of 230.00, had the list price on the box and hangtag of 495.00! Anyway I thought about letting the new turtle go but then I realized there was nothing better I could replace it for at that price point and just kept it..

    I now own all three of these Seiko watches being a Blumo , a Padi Turtle, and a skx009. To me the Blumo is definitely the best watch but with that being said each watch has something that I absolutely love about it . Picking a favorite is hard because each one has its strengths but I am very bias towards the Blumo 👍🏻

    Through all my research, talking to people, personal experience, and forum reading the only thing better about the 6r movement over the 4r is the power reserve which isn't really an issue. The different spring in the 6r is just a different spring bc it has to be bc of more power reserve, nothing performance based. They are both 21600 bph. Both can be hit and miss with accuracy. Ive actually heard more complaints about the 6r and serious complaints and problems with it in the SARB models. The 4r is a workhorse that just works and goes. It has the hacking and winding as we all know and a better rep I think. In my experience it has been more accurate and reliable. I think the Turtle, esp the PADI, Batman,and Blue Lagoon are the best looking and all around diver under 500 or even 1000 $ in my opinion.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  Před 6 lety +1

      I don't know specifically why, but aside from the longer power reserve found in the 6r15 movement it also has a higher tolerance for accuracy from the factory. The 6r15 has a specification of -15 to +25 seconds per day, while the 4r35 series of movements have a spec of -35 to + 45 seconds per day. This difference probably has something to do with the Spron Mainspring found in the 6r series of movements, but I'm not entirely sure.

    • @mrdisco99
      @mrdisco99 Před 5 lety

      Just to add a data point to this, my SARB033 is dead on accurate on the wrist, usually +/- 2spd. It's also predictably easy to regulate by leaving it on a table either dial up to speed it up or crown up to slow it down. It's pretty rare that my SARB is more than 5 secs off from atomic time. In contrast, I also have an SKX and an NH35 powered Invicta, and both are noticeably more difficult to keep regulated. I've actually cracked them open before to correct them, while I've never felt the need to do that with the SARB. Even after that they tend to have a larger range of daily variance than the SARB.
      Just saying... the difference may only be in the springs, but it is noticeable, and helps justify the price difference IMHO.

    • @tkm3207
      @tkm3207 Před 5 lety +1

      Every 6R15 Seiko I have is far more accurate that the listed specs of +/- given by Seiko. My SARB065 is within +/-2sec

  • @fin_jan
    @fin_jan Před 6 lety +6

    A 4r36 movement (NH36) can be had for less than $50. I think you need a new crown and stem, also. Then upgrade the bracelet to a Strapcode and *viola* you have a super upgraded SKX...
    for the price of a Sumo.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  Před 6 lety +1

      I had considered doing a 4r36 mod on an SKX but I think you also have to replace the crown with one from a SARB059, and last time I checked those were going for $90 on ebay. That brings the price up to the point past what I'd be willing to put into a DIY project.

    Nice video. I'm right there with you on the wish for an upgraded SKX. Same size case, applied indices, better lume, drilled lugs.I'd pay $500-$1000 happily, depending on the extent of the improvements to the movement and finishing. (And the bracelet, too.)

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  Před 7 lety

      You have to wonder if Seiko is listening to customer feedback at all or not. A new "Prospex" version of the SKX with those upgrades would be a hot seller I'm guessing. Fingers crossed we get one sooner then later.

  • @armandojuan64
    @armandojuan64 Před 5 lety +2

    The biggest problem with Seiko is the fact that they built the SKX …. they can try all they want , nothing and I mean , nothing is gonna take that spot ever , never , ever …. the best they could do in put and NH35A inside and a ceramic bezel on top and a soft rubber strap from the Turtle but icons are inmortal ….. that simple . Casio can build the most advanced digital watches in the planet but the DW56E is inmortal , Omega can build all the timepieces that they want and no one would slightly fog the image of the Seamaster and Rolex coyld do the same and there won't be another Rolex like the submariner .

I just purchased the PADI because I wanted even more eye candy. The x in the dial and extra print add more interest to the watch. That is why the Turtles are my picks, especially when they come with colors.

The difference is operating the watch, I want to throw the skx trying to set,wind and wear. The turtle is so much easier to operate. I know I'm in the minority,but my 009 is the worst bracelet I've ever worn the turtle much more comfortable. I got both on ebay the turtle was $ 10.00 more, we'll worth it.

    Guy, what watch Are you wearing in this video?

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  Před 6 lety +1

      It's an older Seiko Quartz from 1985, the caseback number is 6923-8080.

    Is that the SRP773 or the SRP773K1?

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  Před 6 lety

      I guess technically it's a SRP773J1. There is a K1 version and a J1 version, designating the origin of manufacture. This one as you can maybe see on the bottom of the dial says Made In Japan - which is the J1 version.

      It's my understanding that a watch needs to be iso certified to permit using the term "diver's 200" on the dial. All three have it.

    Good review .. Love my SKX ..However the none hand winding none hacking movement turns me off .. That said I have modded 2 SKX's with the NH36A Movements.. But in 2018 Seiko should be offering the SKX Range with a 4R35 movement.. Out of all my Seiko's my SARB 047 is the most refined in fit and finish /movement. and not a lot of money in comparison .. 6R15 Movement. Signed crown. J version. 360 USD.. Brand new... Best value for money right now the SRP 315J1 At 210USD ... 4r35 movement.. and stainless bracelet...If you are a Seikoholic like myself .www.lazada.co.th is a great place to shop .. Basically a Thai version of Amazon same returns policy. and easy to navigate... I am big into modding. As you highlighted it can be expensive... Not so much for the donor watches ,but the new parts ... Ironically my SKX 013K1 Gets a lot of wrist time because of its dimensions... Being a Seikophile is a mad world.. Enjoy !!!

      Sorry I don't typically do 10 min presentations. I do in depth reviews. Plenty of channels already offer that style of video, I can recommend some good ones if you're looking for something different.

    Stop calling pressed markers applied markers. Pressed markers with printed lume is trashy whereas applied markers with filled lume is quality.

      I picked up an 8926ob on Amazon Prime Day. I wanted to check out an Invicta in person and I got an awesome price on it. With the exception of a couple aesthetic things my initial impressions are that I think it's a pretty nice watch and a good value.

    Practically cost yobokies can make you your dream watch - forums.watchuseek.com/f21/how-do-you-buy-yobokies-374753.html
    Personally I agree but think the SKX013 superior in every regard as blends better, works for formal attire with a sumo esque lug width, tighter tolerances and so uniquely offers what no sumo, monster or turtle can hope to be. Further any can borrow it and it works be they partners or children as with phones large watches are just counter productive attempts to claim brute ideals of masculinity ironically by embracing emotive excess.
