My husband and I had issues with pills before and I can now say proudly we are 6 yrs clean. We wanted to watch the show because of people saying it glamorize drugs but they really don’t and they are pretty spot on about someone being addicted. But the only thing I can see on how they glamorize drugs is like the scene with Rue and Jules when they did the pills and what it was like while they was high. Yea sometimes it feels great and see awesome colors and sh*t but then other times it can be scary for you and some even die because of it.
Huge congrats on your sobriety! :) I definitely agree with your assessment, while we saw how brutal the dopesick, withdrawal and detox was, nobody ever tries drugs thinking it’ll ever get to that point. I can imagine people seeing the allure of the fun part with all the colours, but yeah the path that follows that moment is very different for everyone.
I mean holy shit. Just smoke weed or do mushrooms. Can't overdose and they don't have physical addiction.
Like everything in moderation. Even too much water every day or at once can kill you.
Thanks for the recap! I watched someone else recap season 1 and i was just so disgusted by their support of kat's sexual behavior and a whole bunch of other nonsense. I morally cannot watch and support the show but FOMO has we watching recaps.

So the algorithms have been bombarding me with stuff about this show and, since I knew I didn't want to put myself through the darkness of it all, I watched a S1 recap. Now I'm in this weird spot where I'm super interested in what happens but I'm for sure not gonna sit down and watch it. I watched a little bit of the episode where Rue loses the suitcase and fights with her family and.... yeah, I can't do multiple hours of that. Anyway all this is to say thanks for this!

Kinda smart that they made Rue’s character more unlikeable the more she uses instead of more tragic/sympathetic. I think that’s sending out a pretty cool message.
In season one when Jules was drunk at the party I felt bad for Rue. Like imo it obviously bothered her especially as she went all out for Halloween because it was something Jules cared about and Jules got completely hammered. Also people were upset with Jules because they were drinking around an addict. It’s tough enough being an addict, but honestly, those two were toxic and I’m glad that Rue didn’t get back together with Jules at the end of the play because Rue was absolutely right when she said that Jules loved to be loved.
Also addict in recovery here(8 years clean. And am 34. I never thought I’d see 30 tbh.) I started using pills when I was 13. I was unlucky enough to be around when doctors were pushing them down our throats. Then one day they suddenly just cut us off so opiates were my drug of choice but I would take anything to just be well, you’re right about how it stops being about the high, it’s just about being well at some point because you still hope to find that high but at end of day you have to be well and not in pain.
Anywayssss, rue never stood a chance at staying sober unfortunately I feel. Old playgrounds. Entering a relationship right out of rehab. All big no nos. I was married when I had my last relapse and still am fortunately. But it took years to get my husband’s trust back. In some ways, I’ll never fully have it. We went to a lot of counseling and worked through it because your partner cannot be your babysitter. But if you go into rehab single, stay single for a good while. My relapse was when my father died after losing my mother 2 years prior (only child and suddenly my main support system was gone.) but imo rue didn’t stand a chance and it takes a lot of failures to get there because you have to WANT it. By the time you truly want it, you’re *usually* at rock bottom and it’s either keep using& die, just die, or get help.
Sorry for the novel. But this show definitely doesn’t glamorize drug use. It shows rock bottom. And it’s horrific. And everyone’s bottom is different.
But I disagree that Rue wasn’t bothered by Jules drinking at Halloween party. Also Elliot wanted rue to himself imo but kept Jules as an extra.

Thank you for this video! I think season 2’s writing was not as good as season 1. Overall, the scenes did not have a flow to it unlike the previous season. And the drama felt delayed a bit? Like it taks too long for Jules to discover Rue is high or for Maddie to realize what’s happening being Nate and Cassie? Like Jules is the child of a drug addict so why doesn’t she know that she’s high? And in the special episode Jules said she doesn’t like nor want to please men anymore, only immediately to sleep with Elliot (this is not polyamory it’s cheating by the way because Rue didn’t know nor agree with being in a open relationship). Rue also gets away with a lot, like the whole chase scene from the police or her escaping Laurie’s house was too lucky. Not to mention the fact that it feels like everyone’s character turns on or off like a switch. Rue’s mom decide to kick Rue out of the house just because Ali told her to focus on Gia (nothing wrong with this, but that was too quick. Would have been nice to see her process or come to this conclusion). Cassie was afraid of Maddy because she was sleeping with Nate to almost immediately not care (would have been nice to see her really process her friendship with Maddy so she realizes the weight of her actions). Kat has no lines except hating Ethan (even though it’s really vague as to why, and it’s all internal. If it’s because he’s a nice guy and she needs someone darker, it would have been nice to see how her desires cause then to clash, like her wanting him to do something kinky and him feeling uncomfortable. But all she talks about is how she hates him and doesn’t try to talk to him and breaks up in the worst way possible). All in all, this season felt like style over substance. The music and cinematography was great as usual. The artistic risks like Cassie surrounded by flowers was amazing. But the writing wasn’t good. I don’t know how to describe it but some characters don’t get enough screen time, the plots lines are imbalances and choppy, and there are some times were the characters get too lucky. Also I don’t feel bad for Cal. He had choices, and he’s the one who chose to start a family, don’t blame your kids for that. And if you wanted my sympathy, the show should have shown the consequences of Cal coming out. Maybe his dad is abusive (they hint at him being strict, but it’s so vague and quick it doesn’t justify it as a risk that explains why Cal come out) or he will be kicked out and has no access to his inheritance or something that shows what Cal will lose if he comes out. And his story does not explain why he starts making porn (it shows why he has sex outside of his marriage cause of his hidden sexuality, but not why he records himself). But thank you for the wonderful recap! What a way to start spring break!

Crazy, I can’t do awkward on television either! There is this show that was on in the 80s called _Just the Ten of Us_ that was syndicated on late night TV in the 90s when I grew up. One of the characters wanted bigger breasts, so she stuffed her bra. She was getting a lot of male attention, and she really liked this guy who asked her out. She was afraid he might only be interested in her breasts though, so she apparently told him in a restaurant on a date that she stuffed her bra. As soon as she pulls her fake boobs out, I always had to change the channel. It’s happened three times in my life. I just can’t watch it. I’m too embarrassed. If anybody remembers that, can you tell me what happened? Did he get upset? Did he leave her at the restaurant or was he cool? OMG, just secondhand embarrassment to the Max even thinking about it.
Season 2 was a 7/10 at best 💯
