- In this episode we fly fish the famous bridge pool on the Tongariro river for rainbow trout. The pool has lots of trout and I am joined by John from Adrift fishing for a great after lunch fishing session.

Great video, will be there next weekend, thumbs up and best regards, Tony.
Have fun, hope you have tight lines
Good work guys!
Thanks 😊
Excellent Johan, I enjoyed a stint watching a number of fisherman at the Bridge Pool (downstream of bridge) when last visiting NZ October 2019. I had never picked up a fly rod at that point and was suitably impressed with the quality and quantity of fish caught. My fly fishing experience came the next day when my wife ‘paid’ (pretty sure it was money I had earned, but what’s mine is hers, what’s hers is hers I say) for a 1/2 day guided session on the braids adjacent to the Lodge. Loved it in spite of my incompetence, hooked 4 and landed 2. Hope to return post Covid.
That's great. The pool is a good meeting spot in the winter and always fun to watch people catch fish there. Hope the borders open so you can come and catch a few more.
Cracking video
Thanks mate
Yeah sick man! Cool vid. It was a good session. My version will drop monday I recon ;)
Cool, look forward to seeing it.
Nice video! Mixed bag of fish in the Tongariro this time of year!
Yes, pity we missed those fresh fish
Hi, we have been fishing to pools below the Blue Pool with a reasonable catch each day, even managed to land half of the ones we hooked! The fish are silvery fresh run, long but not as wide as the early season trout. Just come back from the TT, what a mess, holding some big resident fish but you have to hunt for them. Stoped off at the Bridge Pool but could not stand the smell of the vehicle diesel fumes, I will leave that to you mate! Could do without the wind! Harera
Yes, we spent the morning up there. I wanted to cross the tail of the blue and fish below that but we messed around too much and did not have time after that 3D printed reel test. The bridge was just an easy stop after lunch before heading down to the braids where we ended up getting nothing. Should have gone back up river. Next time I will be overnighting, not this crazy day trip stuff from Auckland. 10 hours driving for 8 hours fishing.
@@CrazyAboutFlyFishing You are definitely crazy about fly fishing to to all that driving just for a days fishing. Oh to be young again! Tight lines, see you on the river. Harera
Hi ,like your technique of putting excess line back on to your reel, very good if your naturally right handed.,keen to try it thanks .also fan of i love flyfishing. Thanks ,regards Tim
Thanks, it seems to work, just be careful it sometimes flips up and wraps around the reel. ILFF gear is great.
@@CrazyAboutFlyFishing went out this morning, works well, thanks again. Tim
@@timkeir6467 That's great to hear. Hope that means you caught a few.
@@CrazyAboutFlyFishing rivers still in Recovery from the rain that gave Napier a hiding ,but the farmers are smiling, should be great on the tukituke and Waipawa in a few days 😀
Nice video of a familiar pool which almost always yields. Enjoyed your casting in what is a very tight spot. Regards.
Thanks, yes it was interesting casting that long heavy setup with a 4wt, but if you load it right it get's out there far enough for a few fish. Roll or Tongariro roll is the only way in that spot, overhead just results in tears.
What rod is that? Not the famous V-top.
What else would it be? I've been fishing with some different rods if you check out more recent vids and will be doing more of that. Still love my V-top though 😍
