  • This is how to run wiring for a toggle on/off switch and a push button start. This is the most basic wiring you need to run your mower.

    Thanks! That was the best explanation I have seen. Rather than ask why my solenoid has 2 terminals and three wires I'll just buy a 1 terminal device. Same with the extra #14 red coming off the battery. If it ain't in your video it gets chopped.

    I brought my Husqvarna tractor last June where it is rigged that I have to turn on the light switch first then turn the key and it cranks that way. I also got a side choke knob to push and pull and the lever that has a choke option at the top follow by the fast(rabbit) and slow(turtle). The big advantage is when I have to step off my tractor to pick up trash and big stick in the yard the motor still running and I learn how to work the brake(push it all the way forward to lock) to stop the tractor. Before that, when I shift the tractor to neutral it move slightly forward until I'm back behind the wheel. Disadvantage is when I turn the key to off and turn off the light switch the tractor will pop (or backfire) after it's at a complete stop. Do I need to use both chokes when starting the tractor?

    • @WrenchandRides
      @WrenchandRides  Před 2 lety +1

      The one on the bottom of the carb is just the fuel solenoid. Unscrew it, pull the plunger all the way extended, cut the rod holding the plunger, reinstall solenoid, ditch the wire running to it... It's not needed. The solenoid closes when key is off to keep gas out of the carb. FYI that's what the float pin does inside the bowl. The solenoid is truly not needed

The green goes to the coils so I get where to wire the green. Not sure about the red. And from the motor I have a red and a yellow wire. So I take it the red goes to the solenoid but I'm stumped on where the yellow wire goes. On the schematic the yellow is magneto, red is to regulator. Please help me out. what would happen if I just unplugged it?

    • @WrenchandRides
      @WrenchandRides  Před 7 lety

      it would prevent gas from entering the carb. when electricity is sent to it, it retracts a plunger that allows gas to flow. when you turn the key off, taking away the electricity, the plunger extends and blocks incoming gas. you can remove it, take a pair of cutters, and simply cut the plunger off as low as you can, screw it back in.... and then you wouldn't need it plugged in to the wiring harness

      Carb is not connected to kill wire. I don't use a fuel solenoid. I use an adjustable jet in the bottom of the bowl, To add a fuel solenoid you can put it on it's own circuit (separate toggle switch ... battery to toggle, out of toggle to solenoid, out of solenoid to ground).

    Heres a problem. I gutted the wire harness and rewired omitting safety switch. Have three pole solinoid. I have check everything several times. When i power the 12v to trip the solinoid to engagé the starter there is only a klicking. Two good batterie. I even connected them in parallel. Still not working. Maybe battery cables? They where also checked voltage threw positive at 13v.. I tride with push button and switch. Still same problem. I can jump the hot terminals on solinoid and starter spins the motor. Tip. You can reuse your key by poking a pointed object in the side grove in the plug. Then rewire and insert the correct wire back into the plug and plug back onto your key.

    Wait, so how is it "silinoid"? I had to spell it wrong just to convey his pronunciation. Also he said solenoid right after he stressed it was "silinoid"

    Where would wire GO TO charge battery

  • @franklloyd96

    I bought this to use as my ignition switch on a 1963 Bolens 800 riding mower czcams.com/users/postUgkxaAnMgzTZ_djF6K1Kr3MGiW_XGUMfUP8n I repowered with a 13hp Predator engine. Worked great! On the back of this switch are 5 terminals labeled G, M, L, S, and B. The G was wired straight to ground, The S was wired from the back of the switch to my starter solenoid. The L is for any accessories, so I ran it from the L terminal to a rear light I have on the riding mower. M is for the coil, so I plugged the stock coil wire to this wire terminal. The B is for constant battery power, so this was wired to the positive battery cable. I turn the key, first click is the accessory position, and my rear light came on as expected. Turned the key all the way and Vroom...the engine started. Turn it back to the off position, and the engine turned off. Perfect! Hope this helps!

      Matthew Schuler ...I don't go there because most of their employees (around here anyways) don't know jack about auto repair, and usually can't hardly figure out how to use the computer to find parts. Lol

      The problem is with your starter. Check to see you have it mounted properly. Tap on the starter a few times with a mallet to see if you can get it moving again. It may be rusted and frozen. At worst, you may need to rebuild the starter, if you want to tackle doing that, or just buy a new starter. For a mower, they will run about $40 bucks or so. Some mower junk yards may have a starter that works well which you can get much cheaper. Good luck with your repair project.

      +Hans Tip ... I will shoot a video about pulley swaps for you this weekend (if it's not raining). Making your mower faster depends on more than just pulley sizes, and I will cover that in the video for you as well.
