    Ursula didn’t really scare me, but Chef Louie sure did, especially when he gets all his teeth knocked out at the end.

    They made fun of Garfield:His Nine Lives on Family Guy. Peter called it an "absolutely f*cked up piece of fiction" which apparently he was right lol.

    When I was a kid, I used to be frightened whenever The Beast (Beauty and the Beast) appeared on screen. Not to mention when Ursula stole Ariel's voice. And I know this sounds dumb, but the angry faces in Thomas and Friends used to terrify me. Particularly James and Gordon's.

    Wondering if either the Nowhere King in “Centaurworld” or Horde Prime in “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power” are going to be future sources of a lot of childhood nightmares.

    Those are some pretty good choices. Here are a few scenes that I really remember scaring me in some way or another.
    The first I'd like to mention is whenever Sharptooth attacked in The Land Before Time. The way he's designed and how he goes after the main characters is scary esp. when he attacks Littlefoot's mother. We see the fight in shadows but the fact that we don't see it makes it even scarier. During the climax, it's also freaky and how determined he is to kill them. It was so satisfying to me to see that T-Rex killed.
    Then there's the Other Mother from Coraline. When the Other World starts to transform into a scarier and sinister place, it's unnerving. It's especially creepy when everything that seemed so beautiful and magical about it before has now become ominous. When she shows up in her monstrous form and speaking in that quiet voice, it's creepy. They actually talked about how Teri Hatcher (who voiced her) played around with her lines and they felt that saying them quietly would make it scarier. When she finally snaps and turns her the room into a spiderweb is really when it gets scary.
    Then there's The Brave Little Toaster which if if you see the cover, it's pretty misleading. I love the movie, but man, is it unnerving at times. What I found extremely creepy about the mechanic tearing apart the blender is that to him, it's nothing, but to the appliances, it's horrifying. It's like watching someone get eaten by a lion when you're watching from a distance. The Worthless sequence is another one because the last car acts like he committed suicide because he could drive. Then there's that clown.
    Certain Disney films have scared me in some way or another. The sequence of Snow White running through the forest is creepy to me because of how scared she is. The transformation of the Evil Queen is freaky too because of the shadows, animation, and her facial expressions. Pleasure Island from Pinocchio because of the boys getting sent off to salt mines or being punished while still donkeys. In fact, we never do find out what happens to them. Finally, there's Sleeping Beauty. A while ago I saw a list of scary scenes and the sequence where Aurora was hypnotized was on there. As soon as I saw the visuals and heard the music, the memories came flooding back to me. The eerie music, Aurora's blank stare, the coloring of her staff, and the silhouette of Maleficent is unnerving. When the fairies look for her, it makes you hope they catch her in time but they don't. Her transforming into the dragon is a close runner-up.
    Scooby Doo on Zombie Island is probably the best of the DTV Scooby Doo films, but I remember being freaked out by the werecat creatures esp. when they transformed. Like the Other Mother, it's a contrast where someone that was believed to be sweet and kind actually turned out to be manipulative and scary. The backstory on them is also a case of them having good intentions but ultimately ending up cursing them into being monstrous creatures. The zombies were also terrifying even though they ultimately end up being good guys.
    In Spirited Away, it's the idea of being trapped in a scary world and being on your own. Also, Yubaba scared me especially with her she flip-flops between being kind to bossy and demanding. Her magical powers also add to that when she first meets Chihiro and uses her power to pull her in against her will.
    In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, it's when Harry finds Professor Quirrell. I used to hide under a blanket and simply hear the dialogue from the film. It was how freaky Voldemort looked on Quirrell's head, how quiet and ominous his voice was and the atmosphere. I became more comfortable watching it after he was killed. I swear Voldemort is so frightening.
    Finally there's The Wizard of Oz, my favorite movie. First, there was the twister specifically how realistic it seemed and what happens if you get sucked up into one. As I've said previously, even though it scared me, I used to love watching that scene. Also, easily, the Wicked Witch. I don't find her as scary as I used too, but she still is creepy mostly because of her appearance and determination to get the ruby slippers.

    There's definitely some choices on this list that I either hadn't heard of or haven't seen other lists mention, so that's pretty cool. Also, this reminded me that I still need to watch Opera Imaginaire.
    As for what sacred me in media, the main ones that come to mind are Pink Elephants and the Dragon episode of Thomas. I saw both of these at a pretty young age, so that probably explains why. Interestingly, according to my parents, I used to love Snow White when I was very little, but around the year after, I, all of a sudden, didn't want to watch it anymore. Apparently, I "became aware" of how scary it was, which I guess just goes to show how brain development works sometimes.

    • @EsmeAmelia
      @EsmeAmelia  Před 2 lety +2

      I was four. She was huge, the crying was loud, and I was a little kid. Best explanation I can give since it was well over thirty years ago. I did watch the whole movie a few years later, but I don't remember exactly when.

    What the hell is with Nobody!?

    • @EsmeAmelia
      @EsmeAmelia  Před 2 lety +2

      Fun fact: Nobody originally starred in a short film by Jim Henson about the subconscious (I believe he was called Limbo in that short). I guess Henson wanted to use that disembodied rubber band face again and scare the living daylights out of kids.
