  • Gato pima is a traditional everyday dish in Mauritius. Often had at breakfast and sometimes as a snack or for tea. It’s a bit like a split peas pakora, here’s a very simple recipe on how to make Mauritian gato pima! Enjoy
    850g split peas
    Spring greens
Chilli and salt (to your taste)
    1 tsp Bicarbonate of soda
    2tbp cumin powder
    Oil ( to deep fry)
1 slice of bread (for binding)
    1. Wash and soak your split peas over night.
    2. Grind your split peas
    3. Combine your spring greens to the grinded split peas
    4. Soak your bread, squeeze the water out and add to the mixture
    5. Shape your gato pima whilst your oil is heating up
    6. Fry and serve with bread and butter or however you enjoy your gato pima!
