    I've changed my camera setup, lighting setup a bit when filming this review, do you like it or prefer my older setup? Let me know please!
    Also i shot this review using the Panasonic S5 with the 20-60 kit lens and audio was captured using the Lensgo LWM-308 wirless mic which i'm working on a review at the moment.

    I own this lens and the twin ring control doesn’t bother me anymore.
    I kind of gave up taking portraits since the fine tuning focus takes time because of the tiny throw you were saying and the subject can only stand one or two pictures.
    In macro world this lens shines especially in combination with Meike twin flash. It is lighter than the Sony 90mm (just to mention a mirrorless lens) and costs 4 times less, plus it goes to 1,5 magnification. Not saying it’s better (mf only, no stabilization,...) but great value and serious upgrade from macro rings. To a point where it is perfectly fine unless you need to double it as a portrait lens.
    What I like about this lens is also the look. It’s got some character!

      Hey Andrea thanks for watching and sharing your experience with us. Great to hear you feel the same about the focus control when shooting non-macro photos. Also great hearing the twin ring control doest bother you anymore as I thought that maybe the case as well.

    Really good review, Richard. Thank you and thanks to Andrea too. This looks like a fine lens, especially when judged as a Macro photography lens.
    Re the presentation, I actually quite liked the lighting and I did not notice anything that did not look natural.

      Hey Clarke thank you! Yes it is not a bad lens at all especially for people on a budget. Just need to prepare themselves with the unusual dual ring control and the limited travel throw, but otherwise it is great value for money lens.
      Thanks for the feedback re the new setup! Glad to hear you like it.

    Does the focus peaking work while using the lens on the Z series cameras?

    Hey Richard, sorry for commenting on such an old video. I noticed a few videos before this one, you said you will be shooting more video reviews with the Mitakon 17mm. Is this one of them? If not... what lens is this shot on? It looks wondering, great lighting btw.
    I am debating between the Mitakon 17mm and the Laowa 17 f1.8 right now.

      Hi Zander, no worries feel free to comment on any video I always try to answer all comments anyway. And no this was not shot on mitakon as I have switched to the s5 at that time. But I am switching back to m43 now so I might be shooting with the mitakon again soon

    Such a cool lens for an unbelievable price. Can't wait to get mine in a month or so. I hope the focus gets a bit less stiff with extended use, that would be great. But even if it doesn't there's nothing to compete with this lens honestly :x

      @@TheRealRichardWong Received the lens today for my Fuji X-T2. Amazed by how close I can focus! The lens is also extremely sharp! Manual focus is the way to go for product shots anyhow so I do not miss the autofocus feature.

      @TheRealRichardWong  Před 3 lety

      Tony, I can't remember if it has focus breathing or not but the focus ring may not be the easiest or smoothest for video. What sort of video are you planning to shoot with this lens?

      @ohshowproductionsllc Před 3 lety

      @@TheRealRichardWong I like to shoot very close up, like food video so looking for a very nice sharp macro lens. Perhaps you could be so kind to recommend another lens, I'm shooting on the Lumix S1h, but I shoot all manual so I have Canon EF, and Nikon F mount lens adapters. Thanks!

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  Před 3 lety

      There is nothing wrong with this lens if you don't need to change focus during the filming. It is sharp enough and very good value for money. Another lenses you could also look at is the laowa 100mm macro. Better image quality but also more expensive.

      @@TheRealRichardWong I'm struggling with getting noise in the image when shooting VFR, 120 Hd and 4k 60, I'm using Cine D and Natural profiles and still noisy image, I"m not shooting higher than 640 Iso, lots of light and had the Meike 85 macro lens at f8 to f11. I'm absolutely stumped! Perhaps you can help with a suggestion or how you shoot VFR and your settings, it would be much appreciated! Thanks Richard!

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  Před 3 lety +1

      Since the VFR video is only full HD resolution, i would be really surprised if any softness is caused by the lens itself.
      Shooting at 120fps means your shutter speed has to be very fast at least 1/240fps usually. And also shooting macro or even just close up photos mean your shutter speed also has to increase further more to avoid blurriness caused by motion or camera shake. What it means is you need tonnes of light if you want to capture nice, sharp video footage if you are filming indoor. Some high power LED light would help a lot.
      If you can post a video clip i maybe able to help you identify where the problem is.
