At this point I don't know
We will see!!!!
Thank you for these tests! 😃👍
You're now at least my 6th source for actual images out of the S24 Ultra.
- mechanical/optical and software inconsistencies among the pre-production models like with the S22 Ultra, improvement to be expected
- blossoms of flowers, red (in your video) or yellow (in another video): Samsung (still) struggles with details
- microphone setup: big bonus for Samsung!
- indoor videos: iPhone 15 Pro Max is the benchmark
- outdoor videos: both have their strength and weaknesses regarding exposure, color rendering, dynamic range, color balance, noise reduction, adding AI for structures, resolution and sharpness. I think it will be depending on the actual software on your individual device and the individual situation you're filming. I expect a little afterwork anyway - so what! 🤷♂️😉
After S4, S5 neo, Note 9 and S22 Ultra I consider myself as a member of Team Samsung. I don't intend to change the team soon. 😎 Just my back number will change from 22 to 24. 😂
Should wait for 25 ultra or 26
Good idea, especially considering those will likely have variable zoom. S22 ultra is still a mighty capable phone and what people forget is that theres no reason to upgrade just because a new generation has released.

@@roshanbaig1487 As a programmer and developer, i see Samsung weakness is on the software that still not mature, look on too bright scene, that caused by new HP3 Sensor that is bigger and more sensitive too light, meanwhile it seem they use S23 software. Almost all the camera problem in S24 is software. Its different if the hardware is not capable (cannot be tuning by software) let say in night situation the scene is too dark and when u try to brighten up the noise is everywhere > this is hardware issue.
s24 ultra is actually slightly beating out the iphone in terms of night video for me, but day video i still prefer the iphone, theyre just very consistent
I was thinking the same thing. I think Samsung controlled light bloom much better in many situations.

Basically you covered all the things I wondered "What if I changed this or did that?". Great job and thank you!

Question:
Do you think that Samsung can fix all the daylight disadvantages by software update❓
(Esp. the stabilization + detail reproduction)
Yeah
Good video test. Glad to see how much night time videos improved on the Ultra. Though I do miss the sharpening and details in the daytime videos.
Nice review. I typically record in LOG with manual controls and then color correct and use LUTs for my more serious videos so the difference between the two phones pretty much evaporates and they're essentially equal. Though for just regular everyday videos the differences between the two phones are interesting. You really can't go wrong with either.

Typically, Samsung cameras only get better over a year with Software updates everytime they changed the sensors. This Was with the S21U to S22U and S22U to S23U.
Well let's hope software updates will actually bring improvements, since the only sensor they changed this year is the 10x for a new 5x

Fantastic comparison. I don't personally use video very often, and don't actually see a difference between these two that I would notice in real life, so either would be great for me. Except, I think those iPhone green orbs would bother me. Unless they are trivial to remove with some 3rd party tool, I don't think I'd ever find that acceptable.
Im the exact same. Im torn between these two phones. One is better for night and one is better for day time. I hate those orbs flying around for the Iphone but hopefully it can be fixed by software updates. Samsung is really looking clean right now compared to Iphone
@@jaun3360 Actually its software that still not mature, becuz they use new sensor HP3 that is bigger and more sensitive to light, that why too bright in mid tone.

I think you could add one more component of test to these devices, the software optimisation test, maybe using both Instagram and Snapchat to check if Samsung made any improvements in terms of camera optimisation to capture and upload content on them. They mentioned that they improved it as well.
Team Samsung, but... 🙄 After using S20-S21-22-23 Ultra, I don't believe anymore in software updates fixing their problems. The S23 Ultra, especially, hasn't changed much. It still has the same strengths and weaknesses. Just tired of that.
It is mostly all about Software
@@itstime8777 True! And the software updates, especially this year, haven't brought the improvements that were expected.
The camera hardware is good, but the competition will outperform Samsung soon if the software doesn't get big improvements. It already does in some scenarios. It's disappointing.
Which problems more precisely?
@@leofurda Here are the issues that are the most difficult to fix : overexposure, intense sharpening that creates halos, banding in the sky, chromatic aberration especially in Expert Raw, yellow spots with the 50mp mode indoors (not even in low-light), high-resolution modes that ignore your attempts to lower the exposure (i.e. in some cases, you decrease it by -1 ou -2, the photo looks ok during the postprocessing, and when the result appears, the picture becomes extremely bright again, and the highlights are blown out.) Usually, if you lock the exposure on a bright part of the photo, the photo will be perfect, which shows that it's once again a software issue.
But the overexposure is the worst, because there is no way to recover the highlight details that are lost.
People complain about the unrealistic colors in some scenarios, but at least, it's fixable to a certain extent.
If those issues had been fixed after 1 month on the S23 Ultra, it would have been acceptable. But it is still not fixed after one year.
@@girardjeremie1939 thanks for the detailed answer! Would you mind describing the strengths too?
You're right, Samsung updates most of the times don't solve the problems and/or create more issues, but especially I often have the feeling that updates make things worse to make the new models look better. And not only in the camera aspects. They also rely on the fact the most of the customers don't notice the differences. And the CZcamsrs don't make it better, because they praise these phones a lot, so Samsung has no stress as long as they look good in the reviews and sales.
you are the best! very thorough test, thank you!
There was a Auto HDR mode for s23 Ultra, which fixes blown out neon signs etc, maybe it will come in an update for s24 ultra

HDR is being marketed as the future of photo and video shooting, but it seems like nobody cares and some people even get annoyed by it. Noone compares Samsung`s HDR10+ to Apple`s Dolby Vision in their reviews and there`s no info about other brands` HDR shooting capabilities. Is HDR really the future or is it going to die like 3DTV did back in the day?

Man, it's so sad to see that S24 Ultra beats iPhone 15 pro max in all features except video and image quality... I've been Samsung user since S3 - used S3, S5, S7, S9, and currently using S21 Ultra. Samsung brightens skin colors and objects colors when it's really unnecessary... I don't agree with people saying that it's natural. It is brighter than natural. It's true that iPhone might be providing warmer or golden kinda of skin tone but still closer to reality than Samsung's higher exposure level. Also, details are more visible on iPhone.
I was waiting for S24 Ultra impatiently, but it seems that I will go this year with iPhone 15 pro because of the video and camera...
Probably gonna loose in cpu gaming batterylife , apps optimization etc too
Man, if I were yo post one pic from iPhone and one from Samsung you wouldn't be able to say which is which 😂😂 there's barely any difference, plus social media destroys the quality anyway
I got an IP15 Pro and never regretted. Fantastic image and video quality. If you want to get the best photo out of it and you know some basic editing, try shooting on Apple ProRaw 48 mp which renders images with a natural sharpening and not too much HDR. It takes space since it's RAW, but once edited into JPG, the size lessens while image quality is maintained.

I preordered the S24 Ultra. While being a bit disappointed by the fact that the Samsung is not the clear winner since it is the newer phone and has better hardware, I am still happy since I am changing from S10+, so the jump should be noticable. This test also shows what is noticable for some years now in the smartphone world: due to the physical limitations we can expect quality improvements mainly due to software only which is promising for me as a Samsung owner.
If Samsung improves the sharpness and the jiggling effect in the zoom videos, it could become the best smartphone camera 2024,
