  • Is it a good idea to go racing with a brand new engine and turbo set-up on a car you haven't raced in a year? Most likely not but we decided to do it anyways with our 2015 Subaru WRX Project Northstar. The car is back with a newly built engine and aKiller B twin scroll fury turbo kit featuring a Twin Scroll Garrett GTX3576 GEN II Turbo. We had some issues with the tuning initially but we ended up resolving that the night before the event! We haven't done anything beyond road logs with the car and we didn't even have fresh tires on the car the morning of.
    Overall the car worked out well but we overlooked some heat management areas and that took us out for the first and second qualifying sessions, unfortunately. With a helping hand from the kind folks at Can Jam Motorsports and our other racers, we got the car back up and working properly with enough pace to qualify 2nd overall for the final time attack. Chris left it all out on the track that day in the finals, watch the full video to find out what happened!

    As a WRX owner who has built his car to 400whp this video and driving is amazing. Subies are no joke, I GAP mustangs, Camaros, all types of cars and most will pull and be like "what the F you got in that thing:) FAVORITE part of video is that last lap "drive like it like you stole it! Nice work Chris!

    2 wheel salutes in the va chassis! lol i find that even the stock suspension is quite durable, ive gotten my completely bone stock 21' up on two wheels a couple times and it definitely says hi to the bump stops HARD on the way back down lol. happy to report its holding up to my abuse no issue (aggressive backroad driver) so i imagine with the upgraded components you guys are running its handles those hard curbs no sweat. i like Chris' driving style! reminds me of my own lol. he has a good instinct for the fastest line and how to clip those curbs and gaps.

    I tracked my WRX a couple times, ran it hard on a stock block FBO E85 with EWG headers. Everything held up fine, but I could tell the transmission wasn't going to endure it much longer. It's on my channel if you want to check it out. It was fast, but yea I could tell it was a ticking time bomb.

    Definitely have to build the internals or these are trash. U haven't decided if I want a Aig closed deck block stage 2.5 or Judy get better rotating assembly internals. But I don't dare tune or bolt on these stock. Slready had short block replaced at 28k a d I took good care of it the whole time.

    • @savegcyclist
      @savegcyclist Před 2 lety

      Since they didn’t mention upgrading it, they still have stock suspension per speed academy channel when he was interviewed about the car. Only upgrade is the Whiteline 22mm adjustable rear sway bars.

    I want a WRX for the FA20 but plan on tracking it frequently, do you have issues with the open diffs in the WRX?

    • @Two-Stack
      @Two-Stack Před 4 lety +2

      this has an STI rear diff

    • @Cichlid_Visuals
      @Cichlid_Visuals Před 3 lety

      rear diff swap is easy and pretty affordable and it makes these cars rotate MUCH better. i have a bone stock 21 wrx base and notice on throttle understeer pretty bad compared to my nephews car which is a pretty heavily modded 2015 with a rear diff upgrade. as long at you are already point to the apex before you give it throttle you should be alright. happy to report the car WILL rotate when you lift the throttle even with the stock differential, but once you get back on the gas it will return to understeer.

    • @ErectileSceptile
      @ErectileSceptile Před 3 lety

      Yeah I'd go with a rear diff swap if possible. Should not be too expensive either, you can pull the diff off a junked / part out STI.

    @lifeisgood070 Před 2 lety

    Ok last tip. Car tires shouldnt screech in a race. Tire pressure or downforce is wrong. And yes depending on the layout of the track he might have to run different tire pressures on the right and left side…. Not just front/back. Tire temps will tell you what to do.

  • @lifeisgood070
    @lifeisgood070 Před 2 lety

    This car doesnt work with a 6500rpm redline. Gearbox is designed for 8k redline. Way too close gearing. 3500k-8k is where it wants to be driven. Could be higher depends on turbo. But you might have to stroke it with longer rods to reduce the g force on a higher redline.

  • @lifeisgood070
    @lifeisgood070 Před 2 lety

    Also in pro racing…. Almost no one makes time up in straights or with more corner speed…. That’s just what it looks like because that’s where ppl get passed. You make time braking later and with different corner entries….
