I love it, thank you boys for bringing this type of content to the channel, you don't find many good reviews of this type on You Tube. Please make more videos with Dump Trucks and Semi Trucks thaks. #GoTFL.
Please stay tuned. More big truck reviews are coming.
@@TFLoffroadok thank you very much I'll be checking
I used to drive a 2015 western star quad axle dump truck just like this one. It had a 8speed eaton. Great power, rode nice, quiet inside. The downfall of these new trucks is you can’t turn traction control all the way off. Come to Minnesota this winter and try going up hills empty in neighborhoods and then traction control kicks in and you lose momentum and end up sliding back down the hill. sometimes you gotta floor it and keep the tires moving so you can burn down to pavement...we just need that option to turn it off is all..it’ll come in handy.
Yeah I hated when they started that. I work in the oilfield and before cat stopped making road engines we had C13 acert engines and when we turned off the traction control it would give full power. We had Pete's with eaton 8 speeds with deep reduction (blue side splitter switch). If we got stuck we could rock them out. I'd grab low gear with the range selector up (aka the hidden gear) which gives a range lower than 4th but higher than 3rd. I'd rock between reverse and low with the range selector up and had no problem because it allowed plenty of wherlspin to get momentum. We switched to Cummins ISX 13 engines and even with the traction control off it would seriously limit power. Just when you got the tires going and a little momentum it would still reduce power. Pissed us off. That and the load based speed control that cuts power at 1800rpm. Sometimes it would zoom to 2150, then you shift and it stops pulling at 1800rpm then you end up having to shift again because ypu dropped from 2150 to 1800rpm. Had the mechanics up the low rpm cutout to 2150rpm and it made a world of difference trying to accelerate and pull into traffic in the lower range gears.
One of the big downfalls of an auto on dirt ima newer truck driver but have offroad experience from 4x4ing. Im always pushing max weight for my truck on road and off-road so if get in some ground that's not been compacted welp ima dig and have to force dump early since im not wiling to ruin this automatic by switching gears mid to high rpms I won't destroy my bosses truck. I rather a coworker give me a push with a skidsteer than me taking who knows how many miles id be taking away from the transmission and money in damages id be causing. These new trucks aint cheap when your writing the checks.
Haven't seen Mr Truck lately... Hope he is OK and doing good.. 👍👍👍
Same with our Canadian friend
@@RedWingsninetyone he has his own channel now...
@@Georgejoseph74 I didn't know that. No longer with TFL?
Hey guys, I'm still here. Whenever Andre calls me, I come drive with him. Not too many new trucks available yet. I've reviewing a GMC 2021 Canyon this week with Kelsey. I've had my own website for 20 years and my CZcams channel for 13 years.
@@MrTruckTV thanks for the update!
As a truck driver, all of us will say "duh!" since we deal with all that day :) But, he said assistive tech came to trucks after cars, but that is opposite. Adaptive Cruise and side RADAR started with trucks and moved to cars.
What i was wondering about is why He did Not use the Retarder . I Drive a MAN TGX 500 Swapbody i also have driven the Mercedes Benz Actros and i use the Retarder more than the Brakes. And the Windows in the Back maybe nice but the Sure dont Help the visibility when the dumper is lowered.
A truck review by someone that knows zero about truck driving, useless. Stick to the passenger vehicles.
probably no jake brake optioned.
Got to love the BIG toys.Andre lookin' like he's in heaven doing this shoot.😊😊😊
Very cool. I can't wait until this truck releases as dlc in the Snow Runner video game.
They got it in American Truck Simulator.
We believe the 49X trucks may already be available in the SnowRunner 10.0 video game version.
@@nycad2484 Speaking of, how soon until TFL does an ATS Ike Gauntlet?
They better not ask us to pay for it.
@@JREwing78 I know right!! @TFLoffroad, you guys gotta do that with the Colorado DLC!
Now this is the way to start Saturday morning breakfast/coffee time!
Thanks for the ride Andre! Now go get more trucks for more videos,..right up to the BIG BOYS,...Volvos, Cats, etc!
Just like you say what a way to start Saturday very well TFL and yes more reviews of Freightliner, Peterbilt, Cat, Kenworth, Mack, Volov, International, etc...
Unused to drive these trucks over 20 years ago. Man, this looks like a blast. Thank you to Western star/Daimler for taking you out there.
I'm driving a log truck for living. Twin drive pulling a super B trailer, 8 axle configuration. Up to 140000 pounds heavy. Got my 18 speed manual transmission, love it. This style I'd love to buy one day. Awesome video Andrey.
so 80k for an F150 or 90 for that... i think were getting ripped off!
Commercial truck margins I bet are quite a bit less then luxury pickup trucks!
F150 can be driven everywhere, are you gonna go to the mall on this truck🤣
@@Jimmyxsx That's beyond the point.
@@Jimmyxsx of course. duh.
Andreas smoking these trucks start at 90k for a single axle and can go way past 200k depending on axle configuration, engine spec excederá this truck show I would guess 170k plus
Sweet, can't wait until this truck comes out on Snowrunner. You truck guys that are video gamers should definitely check out Snowrunner, very realistic. If you have a gaming PC, get it for the PC, has mods which allows access to more trucks and maps.
Heck yea! I love that game.
Excellent game. They also did a good job bringing it into American Truck Simulator. Just waiting for the sleeper cabs, and maybe a jake brake option.
@@blaiseboudreau1819 Did they say they're doing sleeper cabs? Or will that have to be a mod?
@@BlueOvals24 yup, they said, and it's on the Steam 49x page as well "Larger sleeper variants will be added in time. Detailed engine sounds will be added at a later date when circumstances allow for the necessary travel."
@@blaiseboudreau1819 Oh they'll be redoing the sounds too? Might not have to rely on a mod for once. SCS really has been going all out on that game lately.
As someone in the market for a semi that doesn’t have a lot of time to go and drive them all, I’d love more reviews like this from TFLTruck
I'm taking heavy equipment operations for college
I'm enjoying it a lot
I do get to drive trucks similar to these mostly old DOT trucks my favorite one I get to drive is the Mack Granite 10 wheeler 10 speed Maxitorque
what kind of school is that... survival college? you taking critter skinning next?

Cool stuff Andre! lol. TFL needs to do more of this. Make a channel dedicated to the new Heavy Equipment. From construction sight to farm to warehouse equipment. New Semi's, buss's, etc. Few do that. And TFL would be far more detailed at it.
As a driver awesome review guys. I’m a little kid every time I climb in my rig and drive and haul loads. Keep these reviews coming guys hopefully it will inspire some out there to want to drive because we are facing a massive driver shortage right now.
"okay lets get serious for a moment" *immediately honks horn and laughs*
Oh man, that was just great. I would love for you guys to do more videos of construction vehicles. I am 44 years old, but watching you drive around with a giant mound of dirt made feel feel like a 5 year old playing with my Tonka truck.
Andre looks SO happy! Awesome video, love it!
I love this review Andre, finally, I feel represented. I own and operate two vocational trucks.
Love big truck reviews, keep em coming :)))
Yes more reviews like this one please
Great filming from 4 spots to actually see what you need to do to dump a load. Greats from the Netherlands!
I love western star trucks. ❤️ I’m about to graduate college with a degree in industrial mechanics, and my dream job would be working for western star. 🔥
This is incredible, I’d never expect this kind of content on this channel, AWESOME!
This was very cool. We need more of these heavy duty fun
Great review. Looking for a replacement for my 1998 f150. Looks like I need look no further.
The pit of despair, nice. Great review, I hope you got to thank that sweet young lady that gave you the walk around. Keep on trucking Andre.
Awesome vid i just retired from 21 yrs of driving international work star dump trucks hauled a lot of gravel and did a lot of city snowplowing cool vid😊👍
Bah - when we were young,
we hadda drive nekkid.
Ina snow.
And we liked it...!
You are supposed to raise the pushers before you back up. Most new trucks do it automatically when you go into reverse. Sweet truck.
Spent 23 years mostly loading trucks. The loader here is a Cat 980, I was in a Cat 988. This truck I can load. The shorter trucks, I have to get the bucket diagonal to get it in the bed. Loader operators need to be fast because we usually have a line of trucks waiting. Drivers get paid by the ton or by the load, so they want to get in and out as fast as possible. Gotta be fast, but also smooth. If you spill the truck driver's coffee loading the truck too hard, they get real bitchy on the CB. Even though that's a new truck, after getting loaded or dumping, the driver always gets out of the cab to make sure the gate is locked, the tarp is closed and there's not stray rocks on the lip of the gate. Any one of those 3 things are good for a big fat ticket if they're not right. BTW, Andre, loader operators appreciate it if you back all the way up against the pile. Less clean up for us.
I had a job years ago where we all drove dump trucks up a mountain and loaded they were 105,000 lbs. they were not street legal.
Just a fun video....thanks Andre!
Wow...What a value to get one of those maxed out for only 150k.
Andre, the dump truck was carrying 2 scoops of 17,000 lbs of gravel, or 34,000 lbs of payload, or 17 tons of payload (not 34 tons). 1 ton = 2000 lbs. These are short tons, or US tons. Overseas, a ton is 2,200 lbs, that’s why these are US tons or short tons.
9:25 The places I’ve been to, the guys be slamming the side of your bed with the bucket. Feels like they’re trying to tip the truck over. This guy was experienced with his equipment and very professional.
More manufacturer's need to look in to heated head/tail lights.
COST
@@alphonsotate2982 yea keep spending millions on massive oled screens and not a usable safety feature.
What a great idea! That’s so nice of you guys to make reviews on Dump trucks. Keep it coming.
Do more of these heavy truck reviews! There is no one doing them and I for one love to see them and I think many more people would love to see it too!
As a Fleet Manager for a utility construction company, I greatly appreciate videos like this! I hope you continue to do videos on equipment for the job site. Maybe do a video at the next utility expo!
Now that I think of it - start a channel called "TFL Fleet" for guys like us!
I love the WESTERN star 49x its definitely a awesome truck an fun driving it it's one truck you can depend on cant wait to get my own
Weird that a smaller dump bed means a heavier, denser load. I used to think a smaller bed meant a lighter chassis and they gave you a smaller bed just to make sure you didn't overload it. I think that is the case with some small light trucks. In this case it is just a beast. Got to love a Western Star, definitely high quality stuff.
Wouldn't have expected a dump truck to come in specced with a rear window though.
"I'm going down into the Pit of Despair" 🤣🤣🤣
This is so Monty Python 👌
15.6L. They like to round up.
The Auto trans is well suited to vocational trucks man that thing is heavy. Looks like fun to drive. Locking diff and power spliter helps a good deal.
30 years ago in Cologne a Russian friend taught me how to use a manual transmission in "rock free mode". Got a 70ties VW bus unstuck in the snow/mud and saved the day.
First I saw rock free mode works in reverse. Real stucks are in mud, sand, gravel, snow.
See Western Star's own CZcams channel video of 49x demos.
Enjoyed Andre's enthusiasm. Keep up the great work!
I don’t have a CDL permit I don’t ever have a need to know the information in this video but still I loved it lol cool review nice change of pace
We need more videos like this andre with mr truck tfl production is the most important and beautiful show right now
Great video andre I know this is notyour forte but you will get professional in this I like how you explain everything I'm a trucker this video is great
Awesome review! It's nice to see a big commercial truck thrown in just for fun
I always say if I won the powerball I’d get a dump truck, excavator and bulldozer and have the worlds largest sandbox...FUN!!!
When're you taking this up to 5-star tuning?
You need to get one for daily driver and see how it does, lol. Looked like fun
The torque is mind boggling
Beautiful truck. I've always thought Western Star was a classy rig. More videos like these please!
Yes more videos like this one please
Western star 😂
This is a cool change to the videos and I like it, great job
You should always lift all lift axles up before dumping whatever is in the box. The truck is more stable on its suspension.
Im so glad this content is here. Id never buy one of these, i have no need.. but i love learning about them and im fascinated by large trucks like this! Keep it up TFL! :)
Good to know he is a Princess Bride fan, as he entered the Pit of Dispair
I used to work for an excavation company and worked my way around dump trucks, scrapers, loaders, dozers etc. and it was the best job I ever had...and then I became a cop and now I get blamed for everyone's problems...good move huh
I really enjoyed this content along with all your others. Keep the Big Rigs coming!
Love the show, you guys should do more with the big trucks! Just wanted to give you a heads up, the radar, adaptive cruise, blind spot monitoring was one of the few things that commercial vehicles saw first back in the early 2000s. The system I know of is called VORAD, some of the older military semi trucks had it too
Having lotta fun with this on SnowRunner. I love it.
January 2023, that beauty is now 280K.
Kewl very kewl I’m a Mack owner I believe in em too but this has got my attention!!! The company I work for at the moment will be receiving 6 of this WS in March can’t wait I’m try to give an honest review!!!
Should have a manual 16 w splitter

Thanks, Andre
So that’s what those middle tires that are slightly higher than the front/rear ones are for. I’ve always wondered what the point of those were. Thanks TFL for answering a life long question I’ve had 😂
They are for really steep hill tops. lol
Andre, did you get your CDL yet? Or still on permit? Nice review of the western star 👌
No CDL yet. Operating this truck on private property.
980C loader....didn’t know they was still out and about haha. JK they will run forever
You guys are getting really anxious waiting on the bronco huh?
Just messing I’m loving this content please do more, I don’t understand the negative comments on this. Most average people don’t even get to see the inside of these trucks.
What I haven't found yet is a description of how the Rock Free Mode actually _works_ . What does it actually do? It is a transmission feature I gather, does it just automatically shift between gears for you every time the truck comes to a stop, from 1 to R back to 1, etc? That won't really unstick it any better but it will make it easier. But maybe there is more to it than that.
I would love this as a daily, my dream truck
Can't wait for this beast to come to snowrunner!
Looks like you still need to rock it I am rock free mode, bet he just locked both of the differentials in.....
Only thing I imagine here is a snowplow a wing and salt speeder on it and a foot of snow.
Here in Ontario we haul 42000 lbs with a 4 axles truck
That thing is badass! Andre has a pretty sweet job I must say.........
That sensor on the rear diff. I guarentee that will be a high demand part. I can see it being broken alot on the job
Now that's a good day at work!
the extra axles r to protect the road surface not the gravel surface, & for high speed safety not needed for slow speed.
Andre you look like Bob The Builder.
Andre the Builder?
Only TFL does this
Bridges e(older type )sp need extra axles to spread out load not needed for gravel.
My first trucking job was driving a truck like that, international with an automatic. Body job
Take it on the Ike Gauntlet!
Use your lift axles on the road only you will tear up shocks bushings and the frame work
Adaptive cruise control down to 0mph, it also has a radar system and will brake for you if an obstacle gets in front of you, any time you are over 3mph (or 5?).
I feel like this review (good as it is) doesn't entirely give the right impression of the superior execution of Western Star trucks. They are really like the Cadillacs of trucks. They don't just have a front tow pin, they tie it into the frame so you cant bend a bumper. They do a lot of special stuff with the frame and suspension that isn't obvious from a quick review. And just the quality of their paint work, the materials they use. They cost a lot more than a normal truck, but they will last forever. And last I heard they still custom built these all by hand in their own facility,
I didn't know this is a Mercedes
It's not? It's a Daimler truck.
@@ebels3 and who owns Mercedes look it up
With Finnish SISU truck axels for HD. 😎
@@ebels3 have you ever wondered why North America never gets merc semi-trucks like Europe
Normally you don't put the lift axles down until you are going straight down the road and you have to raise them when you are turning at Intersections..
Some can steer when you turn. Not sure about the doubles but the single on my truck had a drag ling with springs and a shock absorber and it turned when the truck turned.
That’s a lite load . Only 2 , 980 buckets . Maybe 16-18 ton ....
Nice Truck...wow... it's got two lift axles... Awesome!!
DUMP TRUCKS NEED A LIVE FRONT AXLE LIKE LIKE MINE
Just ordered the Scale RC model
Thanks awesome video as usual...
Finally content I've been looking for
Did you back up and dump with your tag axles down?!!? Big no no!!! Lol People that do that to often end up ripping their tag axles off. Most new trucks have a sensor that auto raises when you put it in reverse for people that forget.
I realized it a bit late, but this truck had the auto sensor. It raises the tag axles a bit automatically. -Andre.
