    probably no one will ever read this in the abyss of youtube comments under this video.... but i burst out crying once i heard the first few notes of Breathe. it was one of the songs my dad always used to play in the car, and now he´s gone.i miss him so much and i almost managed to forget for a while then i stumbled across this. if you should ever read this, you are a great person and your music has brought much joy to people, even though it brings me great sorrow now.

    One of the nicest blokes on the planet....I worked with his dad way back as teenager...Midge was on tour with Thin Lizzy at the time...I messaged him 40yrs later ( I had never met Midge ) as his tour was coming to Blackpool..The guy came straight back to me, thanking me for the kind words about his dad...Vip tickets for the gig...Fantastic show...Legend.

      I worked and helped roadie Salvation in Glasgow, and did some gigs around the areas that formed this man..they went on as SLIK..got a crappy number 1 song..none of them really liked....then they kinda faded...The original band Salvation were a big hit...Midge had that front man thing.... with Kevin and Jim McGinley, Billy on Keyboards... Midge Ure was a great guy then, they all were...Proud to sit back to day and still see the talent we all knew ha had, still be seen for what it is...Long live Midge....I say hello to him every year as he he conducts that awesome star studded CHRISTMAS song.......the song that reminded who Midge was, and deserved to be.....Great days indeed.

  • @hutchmusician

    Jesus, he really does have amazing pipes still, and he’s not falling into that trap of older singers where they let the phrasing get all loose over the beat. His enunciation, groove, tight but impassioned delivery... the only thing age seems to have done is add a slight smokiness to his tone, but that’s really not a bad thing. Love the crackle on some lower notes, he uses a sort of subharmonic technique to slightly growl them in, it sounds brilliant. I’m a professional singer myself and if I still have half the voice Midge does when I’m his age I’ll be delighted. ROCK ON BROTHER!

      I'm trying not to make assumptions here......but are you American? ...as no Brit (over 30) hasn't heard of him.
      This is the man behind both and Aid and Live Aid. Geldof got all the glory which was criminal. He may have been the one who 'bashed heads together' and made that famous expletive laden plea on live TV, but Midge Ure was the one who wrote 'Do they know it's Christmas'. The guy worked so hard to get Band Aid to happen, yet he doesn't seem to have the credit he deserves. Without him, I doubt either Band Aid or Live Aid would have happened. People need to remember this. He was the brains, to Geldof's braun.

      @robtyman4281 Před 4 lety +5

      @@thebaron8169 Ha ha, I'm glad! Btw, hope you didn't think I was being rude, it's just that Ultravox were big in the UK, and I know they were never really able to 'crack' America so to speak. They (and Midge Ure) were among the pioneers of the 'New Romantic' sound. Midge obviously was also behind another band 'Visage' and their single 'Fade to Grey'. Check out that video if you've not seen it. Midge wrote that song, but wasn't the lead singer (Steve Strange was). I'm guessing though that you know all this!!
      Ultravox were known for their great videos aswell, particularly 'The Thin Wall' and 'Passing Strangers'. I love how avant-garde and surreal the video for 'The Thin Wall' is, plus it's a cracking tune with a really punchy beat. If your wife hasn't seen Midge when he was younger, you can't go wrong by telling her to watch the videos for these two singles! Enjoy.

    Groing up in the years of UK bands , I had songs that took me away , and Vienna was and still is that song.
    Loathe to criticise, so call it a comment, but as much as any Ultravox concert led towards Vienna , the violin then became the most soothing 30 secs of the song for me.
    Which was missing.. ...
    The concert years before was the best version of Vienna I've ever heard.

      Energy? It's a great concert, but the dynamics are close to non-existent, with even the keyboard player reading the chords of his computer. I don't think he even looked once at the band. The beardy bassist was half-hearted in his playing and in his vocals, which made Midge sound rather naked, especially since the mix used virtually no reverb or delay. I know CZcams sound is not the best, but this recording sounded dull, and it's a shame, because midge played and sang very well.

    Thanks for posting. Have always appreciated Midge in all his forms. With some years on him he looks like the love child of Jonathan Banks and Peter Gabriel.
