    Hi again I checked out all the equipment that you used online. Unfortunately I can’t afford that right now. Can you recommend a sander, and dust, extractor and paint sprayer that somebody who is beginner at this can buy, and eventually work up to what you have.
    Thanks
    Gina

    Hey Kimberly…turned out awesome. In the top you used Lilly Moon’s opulent in Rattan & mineral paint Dark Roast. What was the third color and what order did you paint them on? Thanks!

      Hi Nanette - Thank you so much! I show in the video all the colors and mention also alway in the show notes in case you miss it - it was Opulent Beaver Beige, Ivory Coast, Mineral Paint Rattan and Dark Roast. I always star with the lighter colors and then add in my dark. No real order, each time is different. Just add them all in and blend away! 😀

    Could I ask what the temp is in your shop. I noticed you have your coat on while working. I'm just curious as to what temp in good for painting furniture

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  Před rokem

      So I filmed this in December - I am in Northern California - so about 40-50's on a cold day. I have heaters in my shop so that does help bring up the temp to between 60-65. I would not advise painting in cold temps, you can do it, but you may have issues with your finish and it will take forever to dry. I typically paint all year round, but I heat and cool my shop when doing so - optimal temps are 70-90 - but nobody lives in optimal temps all year round - so we adjust (and sometimes test the limits) 😀

    Great video. A consistent thread throughout all your videos is efficiency. I have learned so much from you regarding that and doing so with confidence. Thank you! One question - what did you use for spot priming on this. I'm aware of bleed through and using products like Bin shellac based primer. But when you know you need to prime and know no bleed through- what primer do you use?

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  Před rokem

      Thank you! On this one I used the rustoleum sandable/filler primer. It’s great for spot priming and evening out your finish when you sand some spots to bare wood.

    Hi Kimberly, I just wanted to ask how you and your family are doing with all of the major storms and flooding issues there. I lived in Orange County when I was a teenager and two of my sisters still live there, but I know Northern California was very badly affected. I hope you and your family are okay.

      That’s so nice of you, lots flooding in surrounding areas, we are pretty wet and a few down trees - but are doing just fine - thank you for asking 😀

    Great job as usual. Love your work. I noticed that you have something underneath the dresser. Are those some kind of moving rollers? Can I ask where your purchased them ?

      Thank you so much! Yes those are little furniture movers I picked up at Harbor Freight

  • @tableflippinghousewife

    I’m determined to rely on the the built in topcoats of paints like Fusion and Valspar Furniture & Cabinet paints, but so far I’ve had to topcoat anyway when I use dark colors. Without poly or wax, I leave dusty looking smudge marks whenever I touch it. Do you not have this issue with dark colors without a topcoat?

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  Před rokem +1

      Yes I have with Dixie Belle and fusion and a few others. The Lilly moon opulent is very wipeable and that one in the dark color I don’t topcoat

    Hi!
    I’ve only recently discovered you and am really enjoy watching your videos.
    This dresser is gorgeous! The top is perfection.
    I’m really new to furniture painting and have only done a few pieces in lighter colours. Right now I’m trying a very dark blue/black for the first time. I’m having a very hard time getting a smooth, streak free and brush mark free finish. I don’t have the space to spray so have to stick with brushing. What type of brushes do you use? Any tips you have are greatly appreciated.
    Thank you 😊

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  Před rokem +1

      Hi there! Thank you for that and for watching! Of course I do have several brush options for you (I also have an updated brush video on here that you may want to go check out). Cling on brushes are great (higher price point), Zibra brushes are amazing and at an affordable price point. The key to a smooth finish is definitely brush and technique, using a water mister bottle to help ease the application works well too, you can also use and extender in your paint to increase open time and allow you to work it a little more.

      @@BorninaBarnBoutique Thank you very much for the advice. I will watch your brush video and try an extender. I’ve determined to make this dark colour on my empire dresser work but so far it’s driving me bonkers! I truly appreciate your tips 😊
