    Here's a video with some cool driving tips for new and not so new drivers, and some of the most frequently asked questions during driving lessons. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions for videos etc., don't hesitate leave them in the comments.
    Note: While I try to make my videos as universal as possible, rules and laws may vary according to the place where you’re driving and might be different from the ones in this video. Always drive according to the laws and rules that apply to the place where you are driving. Requirements at the driving exam may also be different than the ones shown here. • @latetotheparty7551
    @latetotheparty7551 Před 7 lety +542

    Good stuff! Hope this helps out new drivers quite a bit. I'd like to add some less essential tips:
    1. Learn how to back up and park backwards into your stall facing forward. This gives you much better visibility when you're exiting your space and can cut down on a lot of headache when you're trying to leave a busy parking lot.
    2. Also, don't rely on your brakes so much. Use following distance and ease off the gas and you'll find that a lot of times, in lower speed situations, you won't have to break or break nearly as much.
    3. Know rules of the road. Knowing right of way in various situations will cut down on being overly hesitant and make you safer, in general.
    4. When making turns of any kind, if your visibility is obstructed, never assume the way is clear just because the vehicle in front of you made the turn. Confirm that for yourself to keep everyone safe.
    5. Modify your driving habits (mostly speed) based on the weather.
    6. Know how to do simple maintenance and repairs on your vehicle (especially how to change a tire/plug a flat). Practice them ahead of time so you're familiar with them so that if you actually do need to use them, you're not solely relying on your phone or what have you. In the same vein, prep your vehicle for emergencies that are common to your area as well as stock it with basic first aid/survival and tools. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
    7. You can set your side mirrors so that it virtually eliminates blind spots. There are plenty of videos on CZcams that demonstrate this. It's not full proof, obviously, but works fantastically well rather than the old method of setting said side mirrors inwards.
    8. If you can afford to, go to a driving school to learn (hopefully) updated driving techniques from professionals. Family and friends can usually only "help" you so much, and their help can be counterproductive/useless. ;)

    • @ConduiteFacile
      @ConduiteFacile  Před 7 lety +60

      Very good tips. As for number 7 though, even though it might work in some situations, there are times where you'll never see someone coming towards you unless you turn your head and check the blind spot. I'll cover that in a future video. Also, at the exam, you will have to turn your head no matter how wide you adjust your side mirrors. If you don't, you fail.

    • @latetotheparty7551
      @latetotheparty7551 Před 7 lety +7

      Conduite Facile Agreed. It's still better to check the old fashioned way but can save you some time. Plus, as you mentioned, there are things you have to do to pass the test which is understandable.

      it changes the position of the inside mirror so the lights coming from the one behind you will not reflect forward to affect your vision but rather upward.. or somethin` like that

    • @ConduiteFacile
      @ConduiteFacile  Před 7 lety +92

      Exactly. Actually, there are two mirrors in the rearview mirror. One that reflects about 20% of light, and one that reflects about 80%. In the normal position, you see the 80% one. When you flip the little lever, you see the 20% one, and the light reflected from the 80% one reflects over your head, like Andrei said. If you don't have that little lever, your mirror adjusts automatically (it's called electrochromism).

    The tip to know if the wheels are straight: often you are in a narrow spot when doing this... it often helps turning the whell to the side where you came from until you cant turn them more, and then you turn them back and skip the first straight steering wheel position (normally you need 1.5 to 1.75 full turns)...

    As a Quebecer who's recently started his practical driving courses, these videos are beyond amazing. Right now my biggest problems are stopping too late, sometimes turning, and sticking too much to the left-hand side of lanes. I'm still getting used to the sensitivity of the pedals so my starts and stops are a little jerky, but I'm slowly getting it. I think my biggest fear right now is everything concerning highway driving (entering, yielding, and changing lanes at fast speeds).

    One major tip my driving instructor gave:
    on twisty roads (a common thing in my area) and especially in a two way it's always best to brake and turn instead of slowing down and turning. Or even if you don't actually brake, you should always have your foot on the brake. This will help you brake in time in case something happens. There won't be a delay in reaction.

    One VERY IMPORTANT tip: when getting gas, if you want unleaded, read the labels on the gas pump and MAKE SURE you are using the correct nozzle. The unleaded nozzle could be any color: black, red, blue, etc. (in my area the unleaded nozzles are black). Make 100% sure you aren't accidentally grabbing the DIESEL or ETHANOL (E20, E30, E85, etc.) nozzles if your car needs unleaded. (In my area, the diesel nozzles are green, but they could also be several other colors). If you aren't 100% sure, go inside and ask the clerk. This can be a very expensive tow and repair bill for your car if you accidentally grab the wrong nozzle and fill your unleaded tank with diesel. It happens more often than you would think. And the repair won't be covered by the warranty, of course, and may not be covered by your insurance.
    Another clue that you accidentally grabbed the diesel nozzle is that it won't fit inside the hole on your unleaded gas tank, although it's still possible to hold the nozzle to the hole and fill the tank with diesel. The unleaded nozzle will fit ALL THE WAY inside the hole, deep into your gas tank.
    If you DO happen to accidentally grab the wrong nozzle and fill the unleaded tank with diesel, don't drive the car. Immediately call a tow truck and be towed from the gas station to a repair shop where they can drain and clean your fuel tank. Driving the car will only cause significantly more expensive damage.

I’m not afraid to get on the road, which is a good thing because my mom was before she learned to drive. Daily I’ve been taking my mom’s car with her on the passenger seat or without her. I’ve been feeling more confident now, although I’m not using the mirrors as I should, but I’m improving myself one step at a time. This video has been very helpful, my favorite is knowing if the street is one-way or not, since down town has one-way streets. . Thank you!

Driving might look scary when you're watching others drive but when you're actually behind the wheel yourself and have control of the vehicle, it's easy and fun! Driving requires lots of attention so as long as you keep your eyes on the road and both hands on the wheel, you'll have no issues. Good luck to you all :)

    Thank you for putting this video on here. My wife has only recently got her licence in Brazil, and to be honest, where she learned to drive was totally insufficient for going out on the road by herself, as they didn't even teach her manoeuvering of any kind, let alone driving in traffic. It was all done with only school cars, and in a park! I, and some of her friends, have been taking her out driving, and her confidence is a lot better, but my patience with her in the car, is not the best. lol. This video has explained it very well visually. She has a far better understanding of the use of the steering wheel now. Once again, many thanks.

    • @Alex462047
      @Alex462047 Před 8 lety +1

      +Memo3941 As a general rule, I've found that cars manufactured in right hand drive countries have the filler cap on the left side (regardless of whether the car itself is right or left hand drive), and cars manufactured in left hand drive countries have the filler cap on the right side (regardless of whether the car itself is right or left hand drive). The only exception to this I have noticed is Holden (as manufactured in Australia, a right hand drive country), which mostly has the filler cap on the right side, but since they stole most of the body designs for their Commodores from ten-year-old German Opel models (from a left hand drive country), the general rule technically holds true. The rationale? The original designs are supposed to have the filler cap on the passengers side for convenience, but they don't change them around when manufacturing for the "opposite hand drive" for reasons of cost.

    • @EvilSl0th
      @EvilSl0th Před 8 lety +3

      general rule... perhaps. but remember, there are three types of cars. male cars (filler on drivers side). female cars (filler on passenger side). this is for the archaic 'men do the driving while women are passengers'. now i said there were 3 types. the last one is the gay cars. i dont like the term, but they are old refrences. in this case the filler is in the back of the car, generally under an emblem.
