  • In this video, I show you how to side mount your paramotor reserve*. It’s a very simple process with some particular points you need to pay attention to.
    Ensure that:
    - Your reserve bridals are on top of everything, NOT UNDERNEATH!
    - You can reach your reserve handle once mounted
    - Once the handle is pulled it will release the reserve from its container
    - Everything is mounted correctly and double checked

    This is the first video of a new mini series I'll be publishing on how I prepped my equipment for the British Open Paramotor Championships 2020. We start with how to side mount your reserve then we’ll build a map board, test fly everything and finish up with efficiency & speed data collection.
    * A paramotor reserve is a vital piece of safety equipment and should be checked by someone with knowledge and experience of reserves. Carry out this installation at your own risk.

    Great video as usual Dan, looking forward to the next in the series. One thing though, I'd recommend a hang check with it before flying if possible. (Not easy where I live.) My story : I modified a reserve container from an old machine I had (ha ha, Solo 210 😉 ) to side mount on my Miniplane Top 80. First flight with it mounted was on a day that was rough as rats as it happens! Anyhow, when I'm paragliding once in the air I always do a familiarisation reach down to check reserve handle. First time flying with a reserve on my paramotor so I reached to check handle and quickly discovered that I couldn't reach it easily even though it appeared to be in a great position when I did the job in my garage! You need to be able to do it without stretching. 🤔 Yours looks a bit low to me, but maybe you've got longer arms than me! 😉 So as I said, I'd recommend mate that the very very last thing you do when you've finished a side mounting job is, if possible, do a hang check to see how well it works when sat hanging in the harness before committing to the air! 😏 The other consideration is whether you mount it throttle side, or the other side. I chose the latter. I guess it makes more sense.
    😉 Ps the flight on the day I mentioned was just 6 mins long. Mega thermic, I landed, it was too much for me! 😮.

    Nice one Dan , i might go for a side mount when i fly my trike but it is fair to say you must be more mindful of accidental deployment on your launch .

    • @DanielJonesParamotor
      @DanielJonesParamotor  Před 3 lety

      Its definitely got its place, I quite like front and side but because it takes ages to change between the two it tends to now stay side mounted.

  • @etchfly
    @etchfly Před 3 lety

    hope this makes sense but when you remove the string through the closing loops if you pull the string so it is under the yellow closing pin and then pull it out it puts even less wear on the close loops that's what we do when packing a skydiving parachute. hope this of some help to some one

    Hi, good info Daniel but's what's your mention of the BHPA insurance scheme as to what rating you have ?(CP etc) as I take it to be as a paid up member of the BHPA we are all covered ???
    Cheers.

    • @DanielJonesParamotor
      @DanielJonesParamotor  Před 3 lety

      Hey mate, so depending on what rating you have gives you a ‘different level’ of insurance. It’s all 3rd party but breaks down as follows
      In training - insured only when on a paid lesson with a BHPA instructor
      Club Pilot - insured at a range of being able to see the airfield (used to be within 2 miles)
      Pilot - Insurance from anywhere the BHPA covers
      Hope this helps 👍

      I believe they're only available to Bulldog owners, but if you buy a t-shirt and a mug you'll get a free paramotor with them 😋 If you're flying one I'd get in contact with Clive Mason, he seems to be the lord of the mugs
