The springlocks were definitely the most underwhelming part of the movie. Mechanically such a system would have to be basically incomprehensible at a glance, a mass of machinery lining the whole suit that would shift in ways you wouldn't be able to expect without knowing what each and every piece is for, which would add further to the terror due to the unpredictability of it. But the movie instead went for.. weird rib things, which serve no functional purpose and only cover one specific part of the whole suit. FNaF 3 showed it being incredibly violent - he gets jolted, and writhes alongside the suit's own movements as it happens, part after part continuing to go off throughout the whole suit as pieces get blocked by the body in their way and slowly push through it. Hell, the scene of Springtrap twitching in the trailer is theorized to be his springlocks going off again, because it matches the movements so well. They really seemed to try to tone down the brutality of what the original deaths were like far further than they needed to, despite still keeping some methods directly opposing that - people being bitten in half or the sawblade mask on that chair would be just as violent as a metal frame being expanded into your body to replace your skeleton, or a guard being forced into a space far smaller than they would fit into with considerable force. This is much better than what the movie interpretation did (some of the movements are maybe a tad dramatic; he feels kind of light getting flung like that compared to the weight the suit had the rest of the time), though I do quite appreciate that he at least accepted it and put the head back on.

Personally, I think this is pretty realistic for the version of springlocks it portrays. In the movie we were only shown those metal rib-like mechanisms, while this seems like it involves the suit having many sections of small mechanisms throughout the whole structure that are slowly set off one after the other. I wouldn’t know for sure, but I feel like a springlock victim would be able to scream for a few moments as some of the mechanisms go off until the parts in the chest and neck finally puncture deep enough to cause their lungs to fill with blood. As others have said, they way Afton flails hear is a bit dramatic, but I feel like the springlock process itself is pretty feasible.

It hurts me how you're all wrong with the "rib-like" part and act all smart thinking you guys are actually right. First of all, Twisted ones graphic novel showed us how springlocks look inside and they're pretty much like the "rib-like" things. The reason it's not that bloody in the movie is because in William's case they all went one by one as you can hear, in games they all went at once just like when Vannesa showed Mike springlocks on the Ella suit. This is also the reason why movie William seems to be in less pain than his game counterpart which went to floor twitching right away in shook. Like imagine all that AT ONCE. Movie William knew what was happening and he even had enough time to realize he will come back as one of them hence "I always come back". The springlocks were accurate yall need to stop

Changed my opinion a bit: I’d forgotten that there were clearly many mechanisms going off in the movie. My bad lol. My knowledge of fnaf lore also isn’t the best so please forgive me for any details I’ve forgotten about here. I’m a fairly casual fan so I’ve probably missed a bunch of details. Regardless, I completely understand that the producers of this film couldn’t add something like this because it would’ve gone against the age rating. I just appreciate when fans portray the brutality of this series.

When I was in the cinema it was a mix of different ages, small children, pre-teens and young adults as well as parents to the children. And after walking out it made me realise that while the springlocks was underwhelming it makes complete sense as to why they made it the way they did. The MPA is increadibly strict with their age ratings and i'm sure the script had to me re-made many times to meet with their expectations. If Scott and Blumhouse had complete control i'm sure the would have showed us the scene in its true realistic brutality but unfortunately if the movie was rated R then ticket sales would have not been great.

There should be a fair amount of blood because that suit is crushing and rearranging his body due to the mechanics that are now in default mode instead of suit mode. there is a makeshift endo in the way of the one engineered in the suit, which would call for broken bones, especially the ribs since the bulkiest part of the endo is in the abdominal and chest area (includes a large lithium ion or lithium polymer battery, i forgot what type of battery batteries the 'original 4' had. Due to the severity of the damage done to William, there should be some blood dripping out of the suit at least. We got a miniscule amount of blood compared to what would be anatomically correct.

This version of the spring locking scene is pretty good, as well as being more accurate, but I think that everyone misinterprets it. The only reason Scott decided to go that route was because if he didn’t, it would’ve likely been rated-R. Springlocks are not some simple system like the pointless trios of ribs shown in the movie, they are inherently a very complex set of sets of mechanics which comprise the entire interior of the suit. There is no room for a person in there when they extend, it fills all of the space with a replacement skeleton for the person who otherwise would support the suit's structure. Which means: IT WOULD LITERALLY PUSH ITS WAY THROUGH FLESH AND BONE INTO PLACE. EVERYWHERE. But sure. Six little ribs and a shitty catchphrase is more accurate.

There was gonna be no springlock scene at all in the rated R script of the film but in the pg13 script there was so clearly it wasn’t for the age rating or they would include a plan for a more graphic springlock in the rated r script. Just your god damn brain and think of this, if you got stabbed with a knife at a lung and the knife was impossible to pull out yourself, cause I know you would be dumb enough to try and pull out a knife when you get stabbed, so you need to head to the hospital like normal but here’s the thing you wouldn’t be bleeding cause no blood can escape since the knife is stuck inside the wound at the same size so it’s basically like skin is still there and that’s why Afton didn’t bleed, you also wouldn’t be able to talk unless you hurried to talk which Afton did and you would be unable to scream, also the reason he didn’t fall to the floor is cause the springlocks activated separately instead of all at once so he slowly was falling instead of full on laying down instantly, now use that brain, try and obtain above a D- in science this school year, and realize how everything I said matches with the movie

I get that some people say the Springlock scene was underwhelming compared to what we're used to, but you have to remember that it's a PG-13 film. The producers of the film (Blumhouse) are HEAVILY limited on what they can do there. HOWEVER, I really like how they implemented it in the movie. First off, the lack of screaming & pain, while it may not be like the games (Mainly that one audio clip every one has heard by now), is actually what would happen. The springlocks would stop your lungs & cut off vocal cords, making it really hard to breathe & speak (Which you also need breath to do). That's why Afton in the film barely talks while getting springlocked. You can hear how much energy & effort it takes for him to just make out "I always come back", before going silent.

But the original fnaf movie script did have an F-bomb that if was kept would give us that rated R rating that fans always wanted. And also this is basic thinking of science and common sense so I’m surprised not many people know about this. That also honestly proves that people should stop comparing these videos to the official stuff.
I really like FNAF analog horror, and I do like these videos themselves
But honestly I feel often times they don’t really capture the complete feel of fnaf, which is fine on it’s own, but what annoys me is the fact people expect fnaf to become these things. Sure I think the video itself is more brutal, I don’t think it’s better
It and other fanmade stuff don’t do a good enough job in actually highlighting the sadistic nature of William
I find it far more impactful by the fact that he decided to put the mask on and end it himself, over it all of it slicing on him.
It shows that despite the pain, he knows he will return as he’s seen others have
The fanmade versions more so just make William as just some random poor dude who got springlocked and not WILLIAM being springlocked.
I should again preference that I like the video, but critical of it because of the claim that “they fixed it” when they took away a core aspect of what made it good

  • @DuskstarShine

Personally, I'm fine with the movie scene, but I definitely would have preferred what a lot of fan audios depict it as; Him being all cocky and arrigent at first, but after getting springed a couple of times and yelling out, he himself starts to beg for mercy and feel bad for himself. (If you've ever listened to The Edge Of Sleep ((highly recommend!)) Kinda like the man from the white van in that is treated, where atfirst he is super cocky, arrogant, doesn't care about other's feelings and pain, but assoon as it happens to himself, he is the one begging for mercy and sobbing like a baby.) I just think it's an ironic kinda attitude, that I would see him having, rather than in the movie where he just took it like a champ and almost didn't even care.
    That's my take anyway 👍
((also with the movie, I feel it could have used more violet jergs and movents like we saw with FNAF 3, rather than softer jults here and there))

the scene is realistic to me, no blood gushing everywhere and exaggerated screams, just a slow and painful death. obviously they could have made the costume at least a little bloodstained but that was probably because the film's rating greatly limited the potential of the scene, but even so, the scene was incredible, especially Matthew's performance, he really seemed to be holding himself back from crying or screaming.

Most things everyone is saying here is that the CREATOR of the franchise got something wrong. Everyone wanted blood everywhere but the thing is the spring locks are partially covering the wounds. William knows more about the spring locks so he didn’t panic as much as a random person. One of the first scripts didn’t even have spring locks and they just dropped the cupcake into the suit. For a script with spring locks, after he put on the mask he would have screamed more. Most fan animations of the failure are over dramatic. Agreed we all wanted a more brutal springlock scene but we got what Scott and the writers gave us. They’re fixing stuff up in the sequel. Stop crying like little wimps about it.

The movie is the most realistic depiction of the springlock failure, one your lungs would be punctured so you wouldn’t be able to scream and the only thing you would be inhaling is your blood going into your lungs, two the reason there was no blood is because the springlocks were covering every escape point for the blood so no blood was able to exit the suit.

The problem with the spring locks in the movie is they aren’t accurate to what everyone thought they were OR what they actually were.
They weren’t what everyone thought they were, as being stabbed abunch of times at once,
And it wasn’t what they actually were, which is pushing an endo skeleton into a body. (For example, someone who is springlocked wouldn’t be able to scream since they’d have no vocal cords, and you definitely wouldn’t be able to say “I always come back.”)

You just stated the exact same problem there is with all these other criticisms about the springlock scene, how it “didn’t match what everyone thought they were”, like dude, need I remind you that not only were they limited by the rating system, not only were all those interpretations of what people though a springlock failure would look like FANMADE, but also SCOTT FREAKING CAWTHON, the CREATOR of Fnaf, gave this the go-ahead. Are ya’ll really gonna tell the CREATOR OF THE FRANCHISE that he did it wrong?!

In Scott's case, the FNAF 3 minigame made by him had William writhing in pain on his knees, until he died there.
obviously it is not necessary for him to scream in pain or something like that (or well he could half scream in pain until they pass through his vocal cords and lungs like in THE BOOKS), I could simply have him breathing or trying to breathe in pain and agony without inflicting any sound more than his movements
so if it did harm or rather half harm to the original product

I thought the springlock scene was underwhelming, and the only thing I liked was how slow and painful it looked. Silent can show a lot if done correctly after all. The big problem I have with it was how it began and ended. It started with the cupcake damaging the suit causing the springlocks to go off, and ends with Afton just laying down on the fall after putting on his mask. Why did he just collapse, he seemed pretty able to keep himself from falling while the springlocks were actively cutting into him, so why did that happen? Also whose idea was to have the cupcake be the one to kill Afton, I was expecting the Puppet or Golden Freddy but the Cupcake? It definitely could’ve been improved on.

This is actually incorrect. The movie was more accurate, even though it had less blood and gore. Multiple of the spring locks would impale your vocal cords disabling your ability to scream or talk. Also you would have no air in your lungs because you can't breathe from being impaled in the lungs. That's why in the movie William Afton said "I always come back" so fast. And The reason not all of the springbucks in Williams body is because he didn't make too many sudden movements when the cupcake bit him.

Why? The movie is the most realistic depiction of the springlock failure, one your lungs would be punctured so you wouldn’t be able to scream and the only thing you would be inhaling is your blood going into your lungs, two the reason there was no blood is because the springlocks were covering every escape point for the blood so no blood was able to exit the suit. So they didn’t make an excuse to not slap a big fat R on it instead they made it realistic. But the original fnaf movie script did have an F-bomb that if was kept would give us that rated R rating that fans always wanted. And also this is basic thinking of science and common sense so I’m surprised not many people know about this. And the springlocks impale SLOWLY from a chain reaction of one impaling then others shortly after instead of them all going off at once so it made perfect sense
