Could you imagine the devastation of getting news your husband was dead... then the confusion and hope that it wasn't your husband?
Have to say, it was pretty silly to just assume that the driver was her husband, as if they never heard of car thieves.
@@ricksimon9867 i see why they’d assume tho because Tommy was being put in the ambulance asking for his dad the whole time
Hard to say !

Who's more likely to be driving a car with a family member of the owner as a passenger, another family member or a random stranger?
I would have given up the rest of my life to spend one more week, day, hour with my husband.

The writing with Fontana was brilliant. It’s right up there with the character of Lenny. RIP to both actors. They were underrated.
Yes: RIP Jerry Orbach and Dennis Farina.
I loved his hunting comment.
Dennis Farina was a great actor,as was Jerry Orbach!
@@SINNER5150 he originally was a Chicago cop who started acting after being cast in a small roll in Michael Mann’s movie “Thief” that was filmed there.
Fontana was a great character and detective on the show. I feel he gets overlooked sometimes, because he wasn't around long and he took over for Briscoe and by extension Jerry Orbach
"Well that's one citation, driving without a license " for a DOA thrown through his windshield with no ID. I love the one-liners in this show!😃
A former Pope was exhumed and put on trial during the Medieval Period. I'm sure with New York's arcane laws they can see fit to cite and fine the corpse.
"I always preferred to hunt with a bow, it kinda levels the playing field."

I just noticed that there is a bird that flies behind Fontana just before he says “what ever happens to just flippin him the bird” 1:43
Dennis Farina was one of the best ever performers on L&O, because of his extensive experience with the Chicago Police Department. It made it seem so real and authentic.
he use to be a real cop and it showed.

These are my favorite detectives. This early and major years were perfection. Wish we could see more like this
Fontana and Green were underrated.
Dennis Farina. Former CPD Burglary squad. What a guy. Gone too soon.
This is the episode where there were a number of hunters were killed and the boy kidnapped by that dead guy, right? And the defense attorney of the driver that caused the crash tried to use that as a means to get the client free? It's been a long while since I saw this that I can't fully remember.
The detectives investigate an incident where an SUV was chased off the road and crashed into a restaurant; killing the driver and injuring several people, including the teenage passenger, Tommy Flanagan. It turns out that the driver, John Wyatt, had just murdered a group of people on a hunting trip - then kidnapped Tommy, the son of one of the victims. Randall Stoller, who claims to have witnessed the car chase, is actually the driver who ran Wyatt off the road. Stoller is hailed as a hero by the media, even though his actions could have caused the deaths of Tommy or anyone in the restaurant. Stoller's lawyer successfully gets a manslaughter charge dismissed, but then Tommy dies from complications of his injuries.
McCoy thinks that the public will now be less sympathetic to Stoller, and the DA's office could win a case. Tommy's mother still supports Stoller, and won't testify. However, McCoy insists on prosecuting because he doesn't want Stoller, or anyone else, to be above facing consequences for their actions. In court, McCoy highlights numerous inconsistencies in Stoller's story including the fact that he lied to police, and wasted several opportunities to call for help rather than chase Wyatt himself. Nevertheless Stoller is found not guilty. Borgia says this is understandable; people are naturally fearful, and want to believe that a "hero" like Stoller would step in to help them if they needed it. McCoy responds that Tommy needed a hero too, and he certainly didn't get one in the form of Stoller.
@@FrankWolenczak See, this right there why I can't get into quote - unquote "Anti-Heroes"; at the end of the day, they only care about killing bad guys and don't give two shits about anybody who get caught in the crossfire, be they the victims or bystanders... >_>
@@FrankWolenczak Really, well that's just dumb. Last time I checked, heroes don't kill the people they are saving. Vigilantism clearly causes serious danger, as this episode demonstrates, and people are more concerned about him distrusting police and taking it into his own hands, than the 6 customers and waitress who were injured, as well as the dead boy he was supposed to save.
It's like those movies like Fast and Furious or Terminator. People are so excited about the car chase and are urging for the hero to catch or escape the villain, and they don't even give a second thought about the countless cars being thrown off the road. "Oh I gotta catch these villains who killed one person, let's knock over 50 cars and kill 30% of the passengers as well as many pedestrians, while injuring the rest." Think about it. A guy is off to work, barely making ends meat to support his sick child as a single parent, and suddenly he's thrown off the road and gravely injured because "I gotta catch the bad guy", and nobody cares about him because he's not a main character in the movie. He's just a number as far as viewers are concerned.
People might say it's "just a movie" and that nobody got hurt, but it desensitizes people to these things and this episode clearly demonstrates the danger of that mindset leaking into real world incidents.
@@alexanderelderhorst2107 (Have to sigh my "Dealing with people who doesn't realize" Sigh) I copied it from a website that did the recap on this episode. IF you have a problem, take it up with the website that did the recap for this episode. Thank you, Next.
Additionally the inciting incident on the hunting trip came from a real life case where one guy opened fire on a hunting party over a dispute

My family used to vacation up at Door County. Farina was a Chicagoan through and through. I remember hearing Jesse L. Martin getting interviewed on WGN radio a few years ago. They brought up Dennis and he said "Dennis was my boy." Nice to know they got along off camera..
I love all the LAW & ORDER franchise series.
Everytime I see Dennis Farina, I expect to hear Del Shannon singing Runaway. Seeing Tony Denison would be a plus.

SPOILER
After a wild car chase through Manhattan's streets leaves one man dead and a teen injured, Detectives Fontana and Green connect some dots and discover that the chase began in upstate New York after a hunting party was massacred by the now deceased driver, but finding the man who chased the murderer puts prosecutors in a bind. As the reluctant hero (as Stoller, Mike Pniewski) is publicly lauded for his efforts, prosecutors McCoy and Borgia carefully make their case that his poor decisions only endangered other lives.
