  • ATTENTION please! Something I forgot to include in the video. Pipe dimensions are: inside diameter 2.1 cm and wall thickness 0.2 cm.
I recorded this two months ago but didn't have time to edit the material until now. Measurements are shown in the end of the video.

When I first saw the thumb of this video I thought I've found a simple and solid flute porject. And it is! Thank you mate.

Thank you for covering all the details! Making my next flute tomorrow, it'll be a side-blown one this time. Making flutes from plastic pipes is easy and affordable, good to learn the basics of flute making. Another advantage is that these flutes will be around for a thousand years or until someone sits on it:) Eventually though, I want to move to bamboo and reed. However, if pvc wasn't around, I probably wouldn't have got into this in the first place

It's same here. I've learn basically everything I know with pvc. Now I'm working with wood and metal mostly.

i have always wanted and Irish whistle with minor pentatonic scaling, like a native American flute, made of PVC my reference would be the tony Dixon low d tunable, to have one in c minor would be amazing,

I build native american flute's, thanks for this tutorial. I've wanted to make a transverse flute. As for safety, PVC Dust is very dangerous to breathe glad to see that mask.

Native american flutes are very challenging to make well. Do you make them out of wood or pvc?

@@osflutes5141 I make them out of mahogany, redwood, alder and aromatic cedar.

@@oldcrownestshop5025 Wow, that's great! There's a lot to be taken in consideration when you work with wood, I don't know very much about that.

At the end of this video you gave the measurements for the blow hole and the fingerings, but what was the measurement for the hole flute before you put any holes in it?

Since the distance to the blow hole is 52.1 cm and theres few centimeters for the air plug in the blowing end I usually start with roughly 60 cm pipe. I first drill and file the blow hole, put the air plug in and start playing it with tuning meter. Then I shorten the pipe until I reach correct pitch.
