    Thank you so much for this. So many of us folks with ADHD love productivity and second brain stuff because it fills in gaps in our executive function, but a lot of the traditional advice doesn't quite work with our brains. This video is so relatable and I already added the full one to my watch later (a critical component of my own second brain).

    I really, really love that you highlighted neurodivergent perspectives by posting this video here--it means a lot to me as an adult with ADHD. I went on a search through your blog to see if there was any other content related to ADHD, but the result saddened me. This wasn't due to the lack of content--that's A-OK to avoid when it's not your area of expertise! Instead, it was a misrepresentation of ADHD in your post "The Secret Power of 'Read It Later' Apps" (I would link, but I don't think CZcams likes that). I'm confident this was not ill-intentioned in any way, but I want to bring it up because it is the sort of thing we see all over the place and it can be harmful to leave it uncorrected.
    The wording I found objectionable is as follows: "A recent article in the Harvard Business Review puts a name to this new neurological phenomenon: Attention Deficit Trait. Basically, the terms ADD and ADHD are falling out of use because effectively the entire population fits the diagnostic criteria. It’s not a condition anymore, it’s a trait..." First off, this article was not recent; it's from 2005, and I know the post was written at least as recently as 2014 (but that's a quibble). The article is by Dr. Edward Hallowell, a giant in the world of ADHD research for decades whose work I'm broadly familiar with, so I was surprised he would have said anything of the kind and went on to read the whole article. Turns out, it is indeed about ADT, but he never once says, or even remotely implies, that the terms ADD and ADHD are falling into disuse--perhaps this conclusion was from some unreferenced source, an impression formed from the abundance of misinformation out there, or just your own thought in the moment (although it is true the term ADD is out of favor, dropped by the DSM in favor of ADHD in 1987). In the article, Dr. Hallowell actually points out that ADHD is a real neurological disorder with a genetic component, whereas he describes ADT as an adaptation to one's environment.
    As for "It's not a condition anymore," I have to say there are many of us whose lives have been severely impacted, sometimes debilitatingly so, by our ADHD or that of our loved ones, and it is painful to read yet another reminder that people even now commonly think ADHD is fake, no big deal, or even a "gift" or "superpower" (the last can be true on occasion, or with less severe symptoms, but I find it dangerous to throw out casually since it trivializes our genuine struggles and getting help and treatment is hard enough when many people do that already anyway). I do realize your wording was probably just careless and I doubt you intended to make anybody feel erased. I would appreciate some kind of correction in the blog post, if possible--there's an ocean of false and misleading information out there about ADHD, but it's only going to change a drop at a time, so I have to call it out where I see it. Even medical professionals frequently spout misconceptions if they aren't ADHD specialists (and your vocation isn't about ADHD; don't feel bad for not being psychic!). We can all do better about something.

      Thanks for making the clarification. I wanted to consume all things Tiago and now I don’t… joking, I still do but this is a good reminder that he’s not neurodivergent and I have to take his advice with a pinch of salt… I also hate the unending promotion of the subscription model for apps so I was actually already taking some cautions here…

    I am praying for these three to build something together like a life operating system (credit august bradley) but focused on what works for adhd not with all the NT presuppositions “just do the thing” “just decide” etc

    Totally get everyone in the video. Too many abandoned systems to count. Never know where I've filed stuff or put my tasks/reminders - or I just forget to look at them. Out of sight, out of mind. At the ripe young age of 53, I'm slowly realising that I could well have undiagnosed ADHD. So I guess that all tasks for today will be abandoned, and off I go in search of more ADHD material.

    I appreciated the insight from this video greatly. I think one of the things that I struggle with is becoming disillusioned with a system and instead of gleaning the good information from it I am always tempted to "throw the baby out with the bath water" and start fresh again which puts me back at square one. I am attempting to not do that with my notion set up but it doesn't look how I want it to look and function and that makes me not want to use it. Sometimes the idea of untangling something or tweaking it is totally overwhelming.

      Can you collect data on your preferences like tendencies that you have when it comes to what works for you? Like for example if my task manager doesn't have natural language processing it doesn't for work me. In that way the tweaking can be more systemized and there is almost like a checklist because you can tweak your system in manageble chunks? Maybe this process also gets shorter and shorter for everytime you do it?

    Thank you. I think ADHD/ADD people require such apps a lot and they are most ignored when someone is actually building such apps. Out of Sight, Out of mind as well as something that can send a reminder to us for the tasks we have to finish.

    I have never nodded and agreed with anyone more than Bryan in this video. Everything he said spoke to me. Now I just need to get myself together in Obsidian (I already use my calendar and try to stick with using Todoist).

    I finally started being accountable. I got clear that too much information is self harm it's debilitating.
    I got clear on: information (CZcams and social media) is like crack cocaine - it is hella addicting and the root cause of ADHD.
    I got real instead of make cheap excuses.

    I was diagnosed with adhd 2 years ago and have been on medication since then. Still, only now am I realizing that I don’t need to beat myself up for these common systems not working for me. Also, as a creative/artist type I can’t get on board with these ugly convoluted UIs that look like they were made by coders for coders. It could have all the bells and whistles but if I have to suffer looking at white and cobalt blue I won’t use it. Lol

    Holy crap.. the issue Bryan Jenks talks about, where in the process of trying to find something you spot another piece of something you stored.. and then forget about what you were looking for as you immerse yourself in that.. is a constant problem

    When I finally acknowledged to myself that ADHD behavior was actually just, poor behavior, X10 slacking, stupidity and laziness.
    I also identified my ADHD as poor decision making.
    I got real and took ownership instead of giving myself a pass for poor decision.
    I use the app blocker, moved a lot of stuff analog.
    I took ownership of my shit.

    For me it is about KISS, keep it simple stupid. If I can't recall a tiny detail, I have to say to myself "does the world end tomorrow or will the sun not come up?". Or procrastinate hence of the failuring recalling (going through the YT rabbit hole or watching/binging tv replays, elaborate todo's either by seeing or thinking or associating)
    I was diagnosed ASS+ADD, so in my case I need to get stuff out of my head, write it down to clear my head, it is a 24hrs a day task for me. I really have an anxiety if I miss anything, so I need to write it down any moment. Hence I use paper at the diner table, Obsidian (mobile) and Notepad++ at work. Google agenda with different agenda's for the main events or reminders. Had used a rare app "DGT GTD", but that didn't work for the vast amount of thoughts I wanted to keep.
    Further more: so I keep a daily journal in Obsidian, in weeksections, for daily notes and todo's for the rest of the week or weekend subsections.
    Stuff which relates to common area's like financials, household, house (+cars, bikes), work, free time, I put them right there in separate files.
    I also have files for Main, Week, Goals (year, other area's).
    Also using tags, but the search is good enough for me.
    Anyway, having a clear head is one thing, planning and executing is another. I get easily distracted by other stuff. Or by the delusion of the day, if that is put in correct English (I am from the Netherlands). I mean the current modern daily life, don't we have to accept we can't do it all?
    Btw: if anyone knows an invention that can store your thoughts into a device or an app, let me know. I know there are some half way constructions:
    A video recorder mounted on your body, so when you see something from which you got an idea, but later you've forgotten about it, you can rerun the video. This doesn't capture all your thoughts of course.
    Devices that are plugged into the brain, that help the impaired with communicating. See Neuralink from Elon Musk.
    I've tried mindfulness, but that didn't help in the event when you are overwhelmed with todo's and thoughts. It's a balance act for me.
