Siddharth Birdi Well about the ownership, to my knowledge the pistols were chosen just before the duel so ownership wouldn't matter. As for expertise, it's a single shot pistol at short range that's highly prone to misfiring. And this all assuming swords weren't chosen for the duel.

There's even a red line on the carpet on each side where the MP's stand. To remind them to seek resolutions by peaceful means.
