During the Civil War of the 1640s, King Charles 1 came to Wales to try to revive his failing campaign. He trusted that the loyal Welsh would provide him with men and money to continue the struggle. A force was raised in Glamorganshire, but it turned out to be very different to what the King had hoped for.
