So they released a relatively affordable (for high end) product then hiked it's price to appease their snobby older customers who didn't want to share taste with less affluent folk? Sounds like a corporate dick move to me.
Which honestly is a bad move, as the “lust for luxury” is what sells a lot to them. By keeping it low (200-400) people would by it, then have the desire to be part of their customer based (thus making them lusted over) they re snobby customers would still be a pleased since they would know that , that collection is for the lower of them
Well it’s a brand and they want to keep its main consumers and clientele that have been loyal to them for presumably many many years, of course they would want to please them rather than the new generation because it’s Tiffany’s. Tiffany’s should want to be able to stay as a luxury & exclusive brand for only the best of the best.
My Mom was very money savvy, she bought it directly from the manufacturer some how and got it really cheap. I was a poor kid that went to a very affluent high school, she always helped me to fit in despite not having a lot of money. She was such an amazing Mom, I miss her so much.
She raised you well if you’re able to appreciate it today. It sounds SO difficult to ride that parenting line of doing good by your kids but also raising them to have perspective & not take kindness for granted 🙏🏼❤️
I'm a jeweler and in sterling it costs us maybe $30 to make one of those. $50 if you add rhodium plating and antiquing to the engraving. $900 is absolutely ridiculous, just ask your local jeweler to make one similar.

I have a kind of similar one, it’s the tag choker. I got it from The Real Real for $500 a couple of years ago and I do like it and wear it often. Actually I went last month to my nearest Tiffany to clean it.
I had the necklace and bracelet to match. I got it in Xmas ‘99. I love silver but these tarnished very quickly and required a lot of polishing. Eventually I just stopped wearing them and I sold them at my local thrift boutique.
I always wanted one back in the early 2000s when I was a tween/teen, but my parents only gave me money enough to buy Claire's stuff which I also loved and was grateful for ❤💍💎
ACTUALLY Elle Wood’s necklace in Legally Blonde WASN’T from Tiffany’s. I read an article about her wardrobe upon the release of the movie. Her necklace was actually by Ralph Lauren. Her bracelet though was in fact Tiffany & Co.
I wanted one of these so bad!! Then when Juicy Couture came out with a similar style but in gold i was lucky enough to get one for my birthday. I LOVED it but i can’t remember what happened to it 😢. I looked these up a couple years ago because i really wanted to live my teen-hood dream and own one again
Omg what a throwback. Alot of girls had the dupes in highschool. Didn't know it was supposed to be Tiffany's. This and the dl mudd purses were so popular. Im sure those purses were based on something too
I remember being 13/14 and begging my mom to get me one in the very early years of the 2000s. I had asked to get it on my birthday but was told “no, not for it to be forgotten in a jewelry box in a month’s time” … but I continued to ask for it for the next few months - so much so that I was eventually given the silent treatment whenever I mentioned it. By the time the Christmas holidays were rolling around, I basically accepted that I was not getting it. Wearing a Tiffany & Co. necklace was like me wanting to wear Juicy Couture - it was totally out of my league being lower middle class in a rural area where knowing those types of brands was so utterly pointless as most didn’t know them or care enough to recognize it, so I didn’t bother anymore. My parents scoffed at the $60 price tag for the Nike Cortez shoes I wanted for the school year (back when $60 felt like too much compared to how much they go for now), I figured that there was no way they’d spend over $50 on a necklace for a teenager that barely kept up with the necklaces from Claire’s. … but then Christmas 2002 comes. I open a few gifts for a typical teen: clothes, makeup, hair stuff, Pokémon Yellow, CDs. I was very happy with the things I had gotten. Then my mom reminds my siblings and I to not forget our stocking, so I get mine and see it’s filled with the typical Christmas candy and other small things, but at the bottom was a rectangular shaped box wrapped in shiny red paper with Mickey Mouse all over it. I immediately thought it was something Gameboy related, but once I saw that robin’s egg blue box, my heart sank and I started to cry. My grandma got it for me. I wore it almost every day for a year straight lol. The early 2000s celebrity culture really had a chokehold on us with brands, though … but man did that necklace go out just as quick as it came in with 2000s trends. By the time knockoffs flooded malls, it was time to move on. It has been the only jewelry I’ve had longer than 15 years aside from my wedding band, but the only reason I held onto that necklace (along with the box and pouch) was purely sentimental as my grandmother is no longer with me … otherwise I would’ve hocked it lol. I never could get on board with the Tiffany craze after that necklace given how their prices always continued to hike on all their items over the years. Anymore, I’ve learned that locally crafted high quality jewelry items to be something worth coveting more and showing off in comparison to a popular luxury brand item that many others own via mass production. People are basically paying for a status symbol at that point, but man did teenage me fall for that one hard.

They thought it would ‘alienate their core customer base’ because the price was “low”? That’s just some nonsense they made up, I think they just wanted their brand to be super ritzy and not affordable
I wasn’t influenced enough to buy things at that age/time. I think the first “high end” thing I wanted that I couldn’t afford was the multi colored LV bags Jessica Simpson had on her reality show….so off to Dooney & Bourke I went 😅
I have one my mom bought back in ‘04 and i adore it. I wore it to a double date/blind date my friend and her bf set up and when my friend pointed it out and how much it must its worth the guy i was on the blind date said “oh you have way too expensive taste for me, you will either have to change that or we won’t work” needless to say the date quickly went downhill.
I still have mine from 2001. lol. And the bracelet. Maybe it will be cool again and my daughter can wear it. But I definitely don’t remember the necklace only being $150. Lol
I’ve had this necklace for more than 20 years, still wear it, still adore it. Why does no one ever mention that the one Reese Witherspoon wore in Legally Blonde was a knockoff? And why was it even a knockoff?? It’s not as though it would have been impossible to access! 🤷🏽♀️
I still have my gold juicy couture one i flip it backwards and people think its just a cuban link. Hahaha one of my faves 18 years after buying it. Haha
My husband gave me a knockoff when he was my boyfriend. I hated it. It reminded me of all the brats from highschool. I still wore it when he asked me to, but it got taken off as soon as possible. I think he got it for me because his ex taught him that girls like that sort of thing.

They thought it would ‘alienate their core customer base’ because the price was “low”? That’s just some nonsense they made up, I think they just wanted their brand to be super ritzy and not affordable
I remember this time, just bought a new one for i believe $750. Oh how the times have changed.
I had one but it fell behind a build in cupboard at work 8 years ago. Pretty sure it'd still be there...
I wasn’t influenced enough to buy things at that age/time. I think the first “high end” thing I wanted that I couldn’t afford was the multi colored LV bags Jessica Simpson had on her reality show….so off to Dooney & Bourke I went 😅
Dooney are made nicer than lv
Haha same , totally got a mini from Downey and bourke
@@brooklin_bernekI had the one that looked like a small bowling ball bag lol. I kinda miss it.
The irony is that it probably only costs 30 dollars to make
I still have mine from 2001.
I had a disney princess version haha, came with a jewelry box
i remember getting a fake silver one for a much cheaper price over 10 years ago and i still wear that shit with no damage, 900 bucks my ass
Could you go through wicked first look trailer
I still have mine although it's tarnished and needs a polish but I wouldn't wear that style these days anyway...
I was obsessed with them when i was younger but I got much cheaper knockoff that I wore all the time
Me and my regular toggles 👀
I actually have the same necklace🥴
$250 wasn't affordable at all for college kids in the early 2,000s. Everyone had knockoffs of this style.
I’ve always worn knockoffs from Claire’s or amazon! Lol
I love those bad
I literally still have mine 😂
I WAS ABOUT TO ASK FOR ONE FOR MY BIRTHDAY AND THEN I SAW THE ENDING
