Well, you are comparing one of the greatest action movies ever made to everything else. No wonder it’s better than most of them. Most of the movies that were made 40 years ago, or earlier, are nowhere as good as “Aliens” is.
Ridley Scott said with Alien that he didn't mean to transmit any message with the movie at all. I think that's what's missing from current movies, the "no message", the "this is a fiction aside from any agenda and that's it"
Even considering time constraints, the Sentry Gun scenes add so little time but are simply an incredible addition to the film. It adds so much tension, showing how relentless the Aliens are, how cunning they are to retreat and look for a new avenue, it showcases some of the really cool firepower Hudson was bragging about, etc. It also wipes out dozens of Aliens, helping to explain why we see so relatively few later on. This short set of scenes adds so much richness to the film that the film really suffers without it. It explains why the Aliens chose to move thru the ceilings. And otherwise how would Ripley just waltz in to the queen's den? It makes more sense knowing 100 Aliens were mowed down by the Sentry guns.
I’ve always wondered how many aliens were killed as the film went on. With the first hive scene and this you really get a sense that there weren’t many left at all.

It's too bad we didn't get to see more use of the sentry guns against the xenomorphs in future alien films because those things really know how to kick alien ass.
They really failed on so many levels to give us what we wanted after Aliens... I liked Alien 4... but the Prometheus ones were terrible and 3 was a flat out disaster.
The main reason they cut this scene was that they did not want the humans to have a glimmer of hope, pretty dark stuff in reality. I watched the movie at its theatrical release and i was very intense. Its a cracker of a scene though and i enjoy it a lot.
Aww, this cut before my favorite line of the whole film. *Hudson* - "Maybe we got 'em demoralized!" I never saw the line until the Director's cut came out and put the sentry gun scenes back in, but Jesus, that one wisecrack makes the two scenes so worth it!!!

One thing you have to say about the Xenos, it's impressive how much ammo is costs to hold the horde back when they are on the offensive advance. If they have numbers, you just burn through ammo at a full rate until they retreat, which takes a lot for them to do so, or they get to you. Hate them or not, you will respect them. And it was not stopping them at all! ::YIKES:: mustve been 5k-10k aliens in that hallway alone. Brilliant scene by mr camron, effective way to display the aliens relentless power but keeping it grounded/relatable for the viewer.
Theoretically as there were only just over 150 colonists to begin with there could only be around 150 aliens in total since it takes one human host to gestate one alien embryo! The queen only lays eggs, not actual aliens.
Now this was a tense scene, because a guy said in the 1st act of the movie said 70 families lived in hadley's Hope and sentry turrets took out in total 30 or more xenomorphs but no higher than 50.

Great choice of storytelling here, instead of showing us the direct intensity of the shootout (which could also works), the scene focused on the characters pov inside the cover, holding dear life on those sentries with limited resources. This way it brings a lot of tension and suspense into the scene instead of the action packed shootout style scene.

I get the impression that the whole mission specifics were down to the enuii of "bug hunts" and an ineffective "Company-hired" C.O.. Like you said, tho...gotta love it, warts and all.
This concept is so good… it’s a wonder every movie didn’t start using sentry guns. Like, why in “Matrix Revolutions” did they have to put on those big dumb suits when they could have wired up a thousand motion-sensing sentry guns? Stole the wrong idea from this movie lol.
Wouldn't make sense in the Matrix. Zion was in a war against AI and machines. Can't blame them for not trusting a computer program with security and defense.
Similar to the hobbit, battle of the five armies. They cut out a load of scenes of the dwarves and elves actually fighting with some crazy weapons, rather than just cussing each other out before fighting the orcs together
Sentry guns made a spectacular work. After they did their job, and vasquez and gorman blasted at least 5, there were probably less than 10 xenomorphs alive. So, if vasquez and Gorman could have made it, humans would’ve won the battle

The marines went to the planet without packing any mines. As a combat engineer I can't understand that even when the lore mentions the Armat Battlefield Systems M20 claymore mine in the Colonial Marines technical manual. But as a life long fan of the movie I don't care that they didn't.
I get the impression that the whole mission specifics were down to the enuii of "bug hunts" and an ineffective "Company-hired" C.O.. Like you said, tho...gotta love it, warts and all.
Damn, anybody trying to do a home invasion with these guns will definitely get the business 👍👍
Sick af
If anyone ever asks you WHY you need a high capacity magazine…. Show them this.
The antithesis of 'Short, Controlled Bursts', then.
I'm still waiting for the Caterpillar walking fork lift. Next step to "Mechwarrior" technology, baby!
i still miss jones
Imagine the aliens charged for a few more seconds, they wouldn't have retreated lol
I was on some Mandela effect shit because I thought I totally imagined this scene. For years I thought that my mind had made it up.
This concept is so good… it’s a wonder every movie didn’t start using sentry guns. Like, why in “Matrix Revolutions” did they have to put on those big dumb suits when they could have wired up a thousand motion-sensing sentry guns? Stole the wrong idea from this movie lol.
They did have sentry guns in the movie 'Congo' when the white killer apes attacked the camp at night - they didn't like them much either!
This should've NEVER been taken out of the Theatrical version. The Director's Cut is 1000x better.
Sentry guns made a spectacular work. After they did their job, and vasquez and gorman blasted at least 5, there were probably less than 10 xenomorphs alive. So, if vasquez and Gorman could have made it, humans would’ve won the battle
Dude I’d be shitting bricks if I was stuck there and that was happening.
With such amount of xenomorphs shoot at and the equivalent of acid blood spread, those corridors should be totally melt...
