- We need to talk about Moritz Seider
#moritzseider #seider #detroitredwings #nhl
I created this video to show that Moritz Seider deserves more recognition for his amazing defensive play this season. Seider has been one of the best shot blockers as well and has made great stick checks to prevent goals. His iron man streak is now at 215 straight games. I predict that Seider will finish this season with 55 points. Hopefully the Detroit Red Wings will sign Seider to a long term contract very soon. He is one of their most valuable players and he is one of the best 2 way defensemen in the NHL.

Seider has played by far the hardest minutes against any NHL competition in the entire league. The data doesnt lie.
I agree
Is that true? Is that a QOC ranking?
@@scoteyyes. He has the hardest QoC of any player in the league while also getting some of the highest % of defensive zone starts
@@scotey i saw something similar, it's actually ridiculous. Seider-Walman get the hardest assignment every game for a large % of the game, which often doesn't allow him to play offensively since he has to play so sharp defensively, he can't take the offensive risks that you might see makar or whoever try to make
It´s always great to see German players succeeding in the NHL!
Seider, Draisaitl, and Stützle are very good
Peterka is emerging too, was really surprised the Sens passed on him. Hope Reichel pans out too he's shown promise imo@@MaiettaSportsMedia
never want this guy to leave, love watching him
I agree
The value of a #1 shutdown defenseman come playoff time is immense. Point production is basically a bonus, which makes Seider one of the top in the league at the position. Players like him should be perpetual Norris contenders instead of skewing towards dmen who score a lot. This coming from a Boston fan.
I agree 100%
So proud of our German Silver Medal Winner🇩🇪🏒🥅
He is amazing
Him and wallman are an elite duo
I agree
Seider is Gritty. Walman is Griddy.
😂
@@Torgo1969 😂
@@YZER19 😂
Fucking love this kid, heart of detroit
The primary reasons his points are down are because his overall TOI is down and his PP deployment has been reduced due to the presence of Gostisbehere.
Yes exactly
Seider is a generational talent
I agree.
He didn't look generational against McDavid. Got schooled all game.
@@jfkst1 does anyone look generational against McDavid?
@@jfkst1but in past games against McDavid he did!! Sometimes shit happens, sometimes it's not your day, thats human
@@jfkst1 He did have amazing games against McDavid tho just not in most recent one, coming from an Oilers fan
Thanks man. Really hate to see the advanced analytic community shitting on Mo. Like everyone forgot what a top defensive d-man looks like.
Thank you for watching
He’s going through the same thing heiskanen dealt with in Dallas. Doesn’t put up crazy point totals but he’s good at virtually everything. Mo is obviously more physical than Miro but from an exposure standpoint it’s very similar. Good on Detroit for the way he’s developed and hopefully will continue to improve.
I agree
For much of this season him and Walman have only been getting defensive zone utilization, they’re never out for offensive zone faceoffs - big reason why Seider hasn’t been putting up the points. But man is he so good defensively, I’ve yet to watch him make a mistake and I’ve watched almost every game. LGRW
That’s very true
100%agreed, that‘s it
He makes mistakes like everyone else but very few and far between. He’s an absolute stud. Knows when to pinch offensively and when to hang back defensively. Love the fact that he is so physical but still doesn’t pull himself out of position to make a hit
He’s crazy good, Wings need this guy.
I agree
half of me thinks he's also been coached to be more defensive and to have a pass first mentality. That combined with less offensive and PP minutes means his points have taken a hit. But low points isn't an issue if you're able to shutdown top lines and take pressure off your goalie on a nightly basis. In saying that it would be nice to see him having more opportunity to score and play more aggressive instead of hovering at the blue line.
I agree
That’s how Germans have traditionally been taught to play defense. I think it comes from a soccer culture, where a beautiful pass is better than a filthy goal, although probably also because European ice is bigger than American ice. I’ve been in the German youth system for the past 10 years, and almost every coach I’ve seen is all about pass first.
Barring injury, Seider should be this generations’s Lidstrom.
He’s that good. He’s that important to the Red Wings.
more like a Chelios type of player. but ad important as Lidstrom definitely
I said the same thing. Game is similar to Chris Pronger
No one is lidstrom. There will be more Bobby orrs but never lidstrom.
During the season when Seider was playing back in Sweden, just before his NHL debut, Lidstrom got to see several of his games. His review at the time was that Seider was better than he had been at the same age.
One of the worst comments I've ever seen and an incredible insult to one of your franchises best ever players
LOL. I think, if Seider would be a Canadien or US, the comments will be more positive.
just got Sieder Jersey at the Detroit win over Vancouver. in OT with Walmans penalty shot. no i just need to get it signed.
Very nice
Good physical player
I agree
Comparing how he used to play in Germany and in his early days in Detroit, his game seems more stable, producing some points and definitely a good +/-. However, it looks as if he is (deliberately?) holding back to focus on what the coach told him to do(vs. what he could be doing). So his game often appears boring (while coaches would definitely love it!). It’s good to see him succeed, but for some reasons I feel like he’s holding back in some areas, not playing as good as he could be.
I agree with you. I think he’s putting the team first over his own personal stats. It looks like he’s determined to lead the Red Wings to the playoffs this season.
And then we have morons who just love to put this young guy down a lot for his ''lack of'' defensive play, yeah sure, he still got things to improve and he is young so that will not be an issue for him to catch up on, but people just love to complain as soon as he makes a mistake. I love the Moritz-Walman duo, they're doing great this year, screw the haters. Good video, man!
I agree. Him and Walman are great together. Thank you for your support!
He still gets pretty scrambly in the d zone. They all do. The last couple games (oilers 8-4L, Canucks 4-1L) we soooo sloppy. Brutal giveaways and bad decisions all night. That D core needs help
Those were 2 very difficult games against the best offenses in the NHL
love me some Mo, just needs to shake those youthful fumbles every now and again, but he and the other young wings make me excited for hockey again
I hope the we get to see him play in the playoffs
@@MaiettaSportsMediathat would be exciting
Seider is great, but I think Hronek is just as good. He is among league leaders in plus/minus, putting up good offensive stats and logging big minutes. Still wondering why they ever traded him. 🤔
They should have kept Hronek for sure.
That was the worst trade Yzerman has made for the rebuild
@@austinm247 No, Hronek was having a great season with us, and he's having a really great season now. But I don't think that success will last. Not at that level anyway. Did any of you look at who's line Hronek plays on??? Yeah, Quinn fucking Hughes. Only one of the best offensive defensemen in the world. Besides, we got a nice haul for him and we have more talent on the blue line coming up.
We traded him because he was having a good year and Yzerman got a haul from Vancouver. Hronek is looking as good as he is because he plays on a line with Quinn Hughes.
@@moappleseider1699 they compliment each other very well. Hughes is having a career year because of having Hronek cover for him plus the big 3 up front producing career years
Arguably more of a complete defenseman over some of the top point getting d men in the league. You can't teach the tenacity this kid has.
I agree
I mean, I'm a Wings fan and love Mo, but I don't think there's any defensive metrics that he beats Hughes and Makar in over the last two years.
yeah 100%
🙌🙌
🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪
Seider was underrated heading into the draft. He was widely projected to go fifteenth at the earliest, even he was shocked to have gone sixth. I thought Detroit ought to have hid their cards and traded down to draft Seider later, get another pick in the process. But he's panning out well.
Just after this video, McD did eat Seider alive and completely owned him.
So? Connor does that to pretty much everybody at times. He did it to Makar, Makar did it to him. Things happen. Mo is pretty damn good.
It’s very difficult to stop McDavid
@saschaganser9671. Ok if you want to cherry pick. On January 11th Seider shut down McDavid, and knocked him on his ass a few times. He only got 1 goal in that game because Wallman thought the play was offside and let McDavid skate by him for a freebee. Otherwise he had 0 against Seider. Seider totally dominated McDavid that game.
that's what a prowd canadien says. embarassing.
Made in Germany - we know Hockey
👍❤️
He should get Norris votes this year
That will be hard because they look at points even though this award should be for defense. Hopefully the NHL will create another award for defense.
@@MaiettaSportsMedia yeah I’m not a fan of the 4th forward award, I don’t think he will get votes but feel he should
@@klompsauce I agree with you
The proposal I have heard is to create a new award for the best offensive defenseman, which would have nice symmetry with the Selke award for the best defensive forward. Everyone seems to agree that this new offensive defenseman award should be called the Orr Award.
The theory is that with offense taken into account with the Orr Award, it will automatically be de-emphasized for the Norris Trophy, because they wouldn't want to make the two redundant.
He’s a great defender but he also messes up a lot of defensive plays and doesn’t get the points. He’s a great 2nd line defender….
He’s a first d pairing Dman on any team in the league
Cider good
Yes
he got lucky (went under the radar) his rookie year teams where not ready for him!! the scouting is in on him now, he has to fight for every cm of ice, his rookie year was looked at as the Wings crazy pick now they now he is a top D man and being played against that way
That’s true
He never went ubder the rwdar ever. every GM and Coach had and has his name on the paper. He's that good. every one watching hockey saw this kid and immediately knew how much talent he had
You’re just wrong I’m sorry
He was under the radar before he was even drafted. All of the public scouting lists had him going in the mid teens, so most people (including Seider himself in a famous video) were shocked when the Red Wings took him at #6 overall.
Today, if the 2019 draft were redrafted with hindsight, he might go even earlier.
i stopped reading after "he got lucky (went unter the radar)"
Kids a mean nasty defender....gonna be a bueaty
I agree
if norris trophy would be about defending, seider would clearly be in discussion.
I agree
I don't get it when Detroit fans complain about him. Everyone has a bad game every now and again. Overall, he's not even in his prime yet and he already looks like the second coming of Lidstrom half the time.
I agree 100%
Absurd. The guy is a sieve on defense. I could hand pick videos to make any defender look good. Show some of the ones where he looks like he's never played hockey before and like a statue out there
Bros just a goalie
haha yep
