"If your lead sings loud enough then no else will notice" I felt that on a personal level
tension I’m not in choir... I don’t sing... but I am in band. 1st chair jazz band and my section mates often say they count on me to figure it out so they can learn from me and they count on me to play out XD So in a way I feel this as well XDD
Being in a choir with 2 sopranos we've learned to accept we'll never have a solid melody on any song
play french horn and it’s Delightful hiding behind the trumpets when on bassline duty
Ive been in the same choir for 6 and a half years (Ive been there the longest out of literally anybody), and we usually have about 30 girls in the oldest choir. Because of covid we are starting virtual. Theres 13 of us. 3 of us are trained sopranos. So thatll be fun
@@mediocrio I main on french horn for band and sing barri/bass for family gatherings. Yeah I tend to hide behind melody whenever I can

I love the fact that, even name-wise, the Baritone sticks out from everyone else in the group. Jackson, Jake, Joey, and... Ryan. It's a lovely coincidence.

"The melody I haven't learned, I only know the Baritone."
This is so painfully true it almost hurts - love this joke!
"If your lead sings loud enough, then no one else will notice"
I’m in band and it’s so true with the baritone, if the trumpets play louder than them you can’t hear them, and when they are asked to play there parts they leave a lot of notes out
I had the pleasure to like the comment to 1000 likes
I've been listening to the song for months, and I just now got the joke… I feel stupid, but better.
I still don't know the joke
I don't know which is crazier - that someone dreamed up that arrangement, or that they pulled it off. Hilarious!
It was actually Anthony Bartholomew that arranged this, despite how he's mocked in the lyrics!
this is the sort of thing you'd expect from Straight No Chaser, not from a quartet.
On that note, if you liked this, Straight No Chaser will be right up your alley.
@@redjive_industries3760 That’s what I was thinking! I love Straight No Chaser!
@@eleanorburnham3713 Makes sense though, it would be a bit rude for an arranger to mock somebody else, but self degrading humor is wholesome.

I don't get where the joke was going. Why was it scandalous?
Yuri they were referencing the song "fergalicious" which is a bit suggestive

I love how they threw shade on the judges.
There are apparently 385 judges.
They always do and for good reason!
They warned me and I still wasn't prepared for that beat drop.
They have warned me 50 times plus of listening to it on repeat, and I'm still not prepared for that drop o_O
In my opinion this was easily the most entertaining chart in the whole contest. Their stage presence just demands that your eyes be glued to them the entire time they're performing. They're going to be a quartet that will be talked about many years from now, and are going to shape the future of the society.

I had a leg break once a couple of years ago. Since it wasn't a clean break, I had to have surgery to prevent the bone from growing in a weird position. Unfortunately for me, the surgeon happened to be a girl I dumped back in high school. She always screamed at me over the smallest things, but she was very good at drawing, which I liked at the time. Our relationship was a bit rocky. Apparently she was the surgeon because the person in charge of handling who did what was a friend who just wanted to watch me suffer. In the end, he sent my

"The Melody I haven't learned I only know the baritone"
as a baritone I relate to this on a spiritual level
The fact that this video is #3 of the most popular videos on this channel should be proof that THIS IS THE FUTURE OF BARBERSHOP.
The Gandhi bit is just bloody great
people always comment on the bass or tenor in a barbershop group, or indeed the lead. Baritones get so little praise - but just listen to the voice of the baritone in this group, especially at 2:04 and 2:33! Ridiculously pleasant and tuneful.
Baritone does indeed have the unpleasent job of completing the vocal spectrum - as a high baritone I can feel the "pain". On the other hand this makes the inside joke "The melody I haven't learned, I only know the Baritone." just all the more hilarious to me.
Thankfully us Baritones get some solo parts once in a while so we can shine a bit aswell. ;)
One of my favorite songs that they do is "Frankie and Johnny." It's a GREAT baritone feature song.
Eleanor Burnham pretty sure Baritone is the most difficult part
@Eleanor Burnham. It's a shame he left the group.
It's actually not difficult for the Bari to show up well compared to the lead in this group. I'm pretty sure the lead is the reason they've never medaled: *way* too much vibrato for BBS style, which should have very little or no vibrato at all. The way it interacts with BBS close harmony makes the whole group sound nervous, like they've got a bad case of stage fright, even though their arrangements and staging are spot-on.😔
3:06 is hilarious! "Nope, too late, you blew it! You blew it, you blew it, there's really nothing to it!" X'D
It's no one gonna talk 1bout the perfect 'IT'S' at 2:58 ? :D
Actually now that you point it out, yeah that's crazy impressive. Going straight from atonal shouting into _perfect_ four-part harmony without missing a beat is some absolutely wicled talent. I have perfect pitch and have been studying music for years, and even I don't think I could do that.
It’s 3 am and I just CZcamsd Fergalicious for the first time because of these guys
My life goal is to one day find a word so new & true that when I tell them about it, my friends have no choice but to bust out in dubstep.

Lyrics From SleepySkull
Hey Newfangled Four (Hey What?)
Are you ready for? (For what?)
For a brand new word I heard. (It sounds like it's for the birds)
Guys, it's new, it's true, you see.
(Can we sing it in four part harmony?)
I guess we'll see
(What is it?) Y'all aint ready.
(WHAT IS IT?) Fine!
Oh...
It's...
Oh...
This better be good.
I don't care, I'm hyped...
Get ready fam! Here comes the drop!
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (Wub wub wub wub)
Even though the sound of it
Is something quite atrocious
If you say it loud enough
You'll always sound precocious;
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Um diddle diddle diddle, um diddle ay!
Time to sing the words, you guys. (Um diddle diddle diddle, um diddle ay!)
When trying to express oneself it's frankly quite absurd (absurd)
To leap through lengthy lexicons to find the perfect word. (You know,)
A little spontaneity will really make your day, (your day)
So Joey Buss will sing it in the Newfangled Four way!
(Come now, don't delay, don't stand away!)
It's super duper scary
Carnivore tyrannosaurus,
Even though the sound of it
Is something quite atrocious
If you sing it loud enough
You'll always sound precocious;
Super power fergalicious definition (Oh Joseph!)
Um diddle diddle diddle, um diddle ay!
Um diddle diddle diddle, um diddle ay!
Hey, Jake why don't you give it a try?
Sure my dudes, now I'm your guy!
Now ghandi fasted so long that his frame was rather frail (A weakling)
And when he'd eat the strangest foods his breath was often stale (So stinky)
He walked barefoot so hardened bottoms were his daignosis (He was a)
Super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis!
Tosis!

This was the very first barbershop video I ever watched. Now, only three years later, I’m in the BinG! Supercallusedfragilemystichexedbyhalitosis!!
I didn't get that one, what is it?
- Gandhi is known as a mystic of sorts.
- "His frame was rather frail" means he his fragile.
- Halitosis means bad breath: "his breath was often stale"
- Callused refers to rough and scarred skin generally on the feet or hands: "he walked barefoot..." and I think he says hardened bottoms (referring to the feet), but I fully understand what he at the end of that part.
So he had super callused feet, he was a fragile mystic, and had terrible breath
Oof

Ok, so Mainstreet is my favorite quartet... But NF4 killed it this year.
Caleb Davis well now that Main Street has to disband, NF4 can be your 2018 favourite. They sure are mine. Gonna miss Main Street though :(
They're not disbanding, they just can't compete anymore! They'll still be around. :)
ThePmacattack Oh, THANK GOD, I was so sad hahaha
Thanks for the correction :)
Hate to burst your bubble, but they actually are disbanding. They would've disbanded anyway whether they won or not, so let's just be glad they can leave with gold on their necks
Based on their speech after they won, it sounds like they'll still be available for shows and such. I'm guessing they won't be anywhere near as active as Vocal Spectrum, Instant Classic, or Crossroads, but they'll be around.
I am obsessed by this performance! Crazy difficult, but NF4 made it look easy. I'm still astonished that they even TRIED this on the contest stage (even if it was as mic-testers). I don't think they'll have to worry about that in the future! Actually, I'm glad they have several years of performances that have been recorded, rather than pulling off a Dealer's Choice / Acoustix "one and done" trick. I will go back and watch their performances over and over, with great delight. GREAT JOB, GUYS!
