  • Morgan Owens breaking the speed limit down an open highway, extremely deep in the mountains of Northern California.
    During the 2018 Mt. Shasta Spliff N Wesson, which Morgan hosted, we actually raced a section of this road. After the outlaw event was over, I offered to film Morgan down the entire highway. Of course he sent it. Actually, the first time he ever even stood on that skateboard, he just pushed off down the hill for this run like no big deal. Also for the record, the run gets more intense about halfway through, and there is some sketchy moments along the way...
    Skater: Morgan Owens
    Filmer: Spud
    Location: Mt. Shasta
    Instagrams: @spud4k, @linkedmedia, @_morganowens_ncmb
    This run was originally in a small, and cut video. But I have decided to drop the full 9 minute run now. Link here:

      You're lucky. What I wouldn't give to just have a day out driving on that road listening to all my favorite Rascal Flatts tracks. Then when I develop a feel for the road, I can try what my bro on the board be doing. Looks like fun. Dangerous I admit but fun nonetheless.

    Can I ask a couple of dumb questions, besides this one?
    - Do these guys keep their trucks tight or loose? I've longboard hills for a long time now (Nowhere near what these guys do though - I tend to go around 25-35 and I've never done a powerslide in my life), so I consider myself at least somewhat experienced, and the only consistent thing I've found with hills is if you go straight for too long you get speed wobbles, so I'm curious how these guys avoid that. I have to assume it's linked to truck tight/loose-ness.
    - At this speed, are pebbles not a factor? I've never seen anyone in these videos get launched, so I have to assume they just blast tiny rocks and stuff out of their way if they hit them. Is that accurate?

    • @dannyspursuit1659
      @dannyspursuit1659 Před 4 lety +3

      Hello!! First off yes they do tighten their trucks to reduce speed wobbles/ increase stability. Largely though, the stability comes with their experience in riding (leaning forward, balance, weight distribution, and confidence) and more importantly the bushings used on their trucks. Harder barrel (venom) bushings are used in the back more specifically (boardside) to reduce chances of speed wobbles. Other factors take into place like a stiff board, low degree trucks, length of trucks, and wheel base. But in general all that can be accounted for with bushings and of course the tightening of the trucks. Secondly no, pebbles are not a big deal. It seems like the wheels hes using are the same i use and they are 72mm in diameter. Essentially unless it’s a big rock... he’s not gonna get launched because the wheels are beefy and made to handle those speeds. Of course they check the quality of the road before bombing to be safe.

    • @danielmullaney2069
      @danielmullaney2069 Před 4 lety +4

      Front trucks : loose ( so you can turn)
      Back trucks : tight ( for stability!)
      The riders weight is almost all on the front of his board. When he's tucking he is leaning forward putting even more weight to the front. His legs are incredibly strong which add stability. This is similar to cars traveling on a road.. the front wheels turn the back wheels do not. And most of the weight ( the engine) is in the front of the vehicle. You can worry about your bushing color ( or nah), everyone is different it's all preference. But most important is that the shape of your bushing ..
      Barrel bushing: stable
      Cone bushing: reactive and turn-y. ( Not stable)

    • @CoteVermeille0423
      @CoteVermeille0423 Před 4 lety +2

      Definitely depends on the trucks you ride.
      I have gone 85kph with my valkyries 160/45/30 with loose bushings, I recommend only tightening them to the point you have no lateral slop when turning trucks with your hands.

    • @spud4k
      @spud4k  Před 4 lety +9

      Yo! Check out Muirskate.com, do some research on best board/gear to get. Get some slide gloves, an s1 helmet, and go to a mellow hill. Something open, straight, not too steep, and you can hike and practice slides. Once you get the hang of sliding, push it faster and faster, and then harder and harder hills. Once you get the hang every time then you continue. But patience is key and starting from the ground up is also key. Eventually roads like this, feel like nothing at all. Yeah man, I gotta agree with the previous reply. Until you can slide to a stop, and slide to slow down, you have no business going any faster than you can run. A hill like this would make you wobble out at half the speed he is going. I've got 20+ longboards with half being able to go these speeds. But it's been years since I've hit a hill like this. Turns out falling at 50+ MPH hurts.......A LOT.
