Sad to hear losing a truck stop. Usually tried to time that place for my overnight if happen to be coming through the area. Quiet little out of the way spot didn't have to worry about the type of drivers pulling in next to you. Plus good food.
Nothing like the older mom and pop truck stops. Sad to see them dwindling.

@@terrywatson9128dude, the old time mom&pop truck stops with full service fuel island and the “greasy spoon restaurants” you haller at on the CB radio from a few miles out and they had your freshly cooked to order meal and a cup of hot coffee already on the table by the time you walked in the door, well, those have been gone extinct sometime in the early to mid 1990s. They knew you by your CB handle and your first name too after a few times of stoping there.
Trucking these days is nothing but pure punishment. A prison on wheels where you’re electronically surveyed 24/7/365! Nothing much of it left other than starring out through the windshield day in and day out. Everything else that put the fun in trucking is dead and buried. It’s fk’n Orwellian !
Wow Kurt,,,, I can't believe that your state doesn't alow tinted windows!!!! I live in Las Vegas Nevada and man here you have to have tint on. Your windows to survive in this crazy heat!!!!! Never been bothered by the cops for tint,,,, hope that turns out to be a none issue for Sara,,,,, some cops expressly if they are new like to flex their authority!!!! Good luck with that!!!! I am a bit late on this. but I thought that I would say this you said in a few videos ago that one of your favorite stops quit serving biscuit and gravy at a certain time. if you have a Hardes close stop an try their biscuits and gravy and a sausage biscuit you will love them for sure keep on trucking be safe my friend.
I will always pick the mom and pops truck stop, don't look much but it's just more homey. All the new drivers like the big chains truck stops and door dash. If you get pulled over by a cop just do what I do, row windows down and turn on the dome light to make them feel safer approaching the vehicle. God bless and stay safe

Down here in Kentucky Casey bought a bunch of convenient stores also some in Tennessee too! I think something like 79 stores in one purchase. It was a big deal.🤔

I fully understand the Mom and Pop stops rant! I stopped in Breezewood, PA at the TA for dinner and was severely disappointed to find the to go gateway express food closed. You are now left with Arby's, Dunkin, or Baskin Robbins for food choices. Mind you they had an actual sit down restaurant back before they remodeled it. One less place to bother with stopping for is really sad especially when they had GOOD food, I will keep my fingers crossed that Bob Evans stays open! Have a great night!

Iowa does NOT allow prescriptions for tinted windows any longer. If you have one previously written you are grandfathered into keeping it but a doctor is not allowed to write a new prescription for window tint in the state of Iowa.
I live in Iowa and all my vehicles are tinted as well and I tried to get a prescription and they aren’t allowed to write them anymore.

In Oregon, the cops don't typically bother people for tinted windows, however, some do use it as a PC excuse to pull people over and
see if anything else is going on....
Back in 2019 I bought an almost new GMC crew cab pickup, and the original owner had the side windows tinted with really dark ceramic tint.
You could barely see in from the outside. They were great during the daytime. The really helped with the sun, and being ceramic, they blocked out almost all of the heat if the sun was hitting the side of the pickup. It made a huge difference. The problem was at night I could barely see anything out of them, and it made it a little difficult to see when I was turning.
O-H-I-O Porters shout Happy New Year 2024 🇺🇸 Tinted windows : I love them, but many cops/troopers I know don’t exactly like them for safety issues. I do NOT like the black windows though! Every town,district,state has different laws on tinting. How silly! Truck stops : I love the old Ma & Pa diners & truck stops! There are NOT many of them left in Ohio,Kentucky & WV as far as I know. I always look for them when I’m out traveling. Like someone said, if you see a place filled with trucks then you know where there’s good food! I’m sorry to hear that he’s selling out to the MAN! Sorry about the pie AND the fog. We had a job hauling sand from a railhead to concrete plants building a pumped storage outfit from foothills up here in the hills. The biggest waterfalls east of the big river is right beside the road and about 3 p.m. on a sunny day the fog rolls in so you might be able to see 10 or 15 feet in front of you BUT you are pulling some good grades so you're going slow BUT you wonder if someone is in a hurry and wants to park underneath you or try and shove you on up the road. So remain calm. I can't see through tints. Worn out eyes. God Bless All Yall!.

I just wanted to let you know if you come back through this way between now and August, the bridge just north of Ellsworth at the curve is closed on 156 for construction. Detour from the north at 111 to 140 to 156. Safe travels.

Your comment about tinted windows is spot on. Have been pulled over twice for my windows being tinted too dark and both times they were MN State Troopers. Once was in my Jeep Unlimited. I can kind of understand that one as I had tint that would only allow 20% of the light through. The other time was in my pickup. The tint on those windows is 35%. Both time were warnings, not actual fines.

All 50 states have window tint laws and they vary. Iowa and 7 other states are the most stringent.

I live in Texas tint is pretty much mandatory (heat rejection, ceramic film). I hate cops that pull people over for tint and you see that their cruiser has the darkest tint possible. Above the Law

Window tint darkness in Iowa from "Iowa Department of Transportation". Updated for 2023.
The percent of visible light allowed through your car windows is called VLT: Visible Light Transmission.
The percentage of light allowed through your film and glass in Iowa is very specific and different for sedan cars and SUV cars or vans.
Tint darkness for sedans:
Windshield: Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Front Side windows: Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side windows: Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window: Any darkness can be used.
Tint darkness for SUV and vans:
Windshield: Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Front Side windows: Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side windows: Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window: Any darkness can be used.
Medical Exceptions: Iowa doesn’t permit darker window tinting due to medical exemptions since July 2012.
Note: If the tinting is factory, it's legal. Manufacturers are not going to sell a vehicle with tinted windows that are not legal. If you had the windows tinted afterward, go to the shop and have them tested. If they're too dark, then the cop is right. The cop is wrong about getting a prescription for a medical exemption.

From a defensive driving stance, I don't care for the tinted windows and for this one reason. You aren't able to make eye contact or at least see if the oncoming driver is looking in your direction. I have never driven behind tinted windows so I haven't an opinion on eye fatigue but I'll take your word for it. My Ford truck has privacy windows on the rear windows and it's OK with me.
To start off love my wife takes good care of me. She had a bad day at work talking nonstop for 20 minutes thank God for curt and earbuds.

That’s a shame about the mom pop place. They are by far the nicest and great food if sit down places while on the road and for truckers. It’s also too bad because a bit of marketing creativity plus signage and a website may have been enough to keep them in business if they really wanted to. Like a loyalty program thermos fill up with x$ purchase. The website could have included menu pics and customer reviews. Putting up a bit of signage lighted todays special then of course word of mouth may have recouped any additional investment. Should a big firm moved in across the street.
The new drivers would have gone to the Wendy’s or those in a hurry get n go but drivers in the know experienced would have kept coming in.
You could always learn how to make coconut cream pie it ain’t that hard. The meringue browned top is hardest part. 😃

On the window tint deal, I can understand why many law enforcement agencies are forced to make window tint part of their normal observations, given that fact that so many idiots are tinting their windshields (dumb), and front row windows so dark that it poses a threat to themselves and other drivers because it impairs their vision, especially at night. I as well have been tinting my front driver and passenger front windows for decades, but I follow the law when it comes to how dark they are allowed to be. I just bought a used pickup in Texas, and told the salesman the front door windows were too dark and illegal. He assured me they "passed the inspection". I told him it was a safety issue. The dealership ended up stripping the dark tint and replacing with legal tint before delivery.
The problem wth daytime running lights is that your taillights arent ON unless you turn the headlights ALL the way on!
I hate seeing mom and pops going away but Casey’s is still a small operation compared to most. Especially in the truck stop side. Could be a lot worse to go in than Casey’s.
