With the new changes in the passive tree we build our Bane Occultist into Block, Ghost Shrouds, Evasion, and Spell Supression...and get even MORE damage with all that defense. Hey guys, I guess I didn't make it clear enough but the purpose of the build here for me was to demonstrate what roughly week 2 of gear and investment would look like realistically. This is why I left some of my current gear (and explained how to craft simple versions of all of those for your starter) in with the cheap uniques. This seems to not have jived very well with everyone. For me, the most important thing about a league start is "can it be viable, strong, and scale 1-2 weeks into the league" so that's what I aim for what working my league start PoBs.

Thank you for the effort! I realise it's much more work intensive but personally I really f*ing love PoBs with multiple Trees/Gears and generally a clear pathway from "scuffed SSF leaguestart" all the way to "this is what min/max looks like"

I was super hyped at first, I didn't notice you had Blight selected instead of Bane, I was like Woah...They buffed Bane's dps by like 300%? lol. Still really good, definitely will consider this as a starter

this is my league starter, all that's required is 3 ex, a mirror, 300 chaos orbs and a personal reach around by C.Wilson. Should be pretty easy to get on a general playthrough.

Im sorry but if you cant league start with a occultist chaos build you probably cant league start with anything and you should be looking at other games ;) Like with other builds you have to have some kind of flexibility built into your mindset and also listen to what he says about gearing.

I played my first ever (bane) occult build two leagues ago (don't know WHY I took so long to get to it?!) and had so much fun. Seeming that the changes last league really sapped my fun and made me stop in 3-4wks, I need a fun carefree build. I think this is it. As a casual player who doesn't like to publicly trade (I usually only do it with friends/guild) I need something that's cheap, easy to understand and fun to get me to minimum T10 maps easy. This looks goooood.....thanks dude! I'll keep an eye on how this will pan out. Best of luck for the league start to yourself and everyone.....
I actually switched out of dodge and into block during Expedition because I just prefer block. It actually worked pretty well for me.
I recommend grabbing Arcane Will right away, it fixes a lot of early game mana issues and it looks like it got buffed.
I will be following you along the way man! I'm wailling to do the same starter and probably push it harder into the end game like you did last league! taking into account that Bane didn't get any nerf but little buffs here and there, makes it a very safe and a strong league starter!

Good video, good information. I've used bane to level just about every witch I have ever built. Pretty much walks to red maps with little investment. I've never tried to push bane to end game though. With your crafting videos I might give it a go this league. Thank you

This is high up in my list of "what am I going to play". Only issue is as other comments have said, this is not a league start guide/build. I know you cover it slightly in your explanation and some comments in the bottom, but what you consider starter probably 70%+ of your viewers won't even achieve 1-2 months in. I think what most expect from a "league start" is more act detail and bare minimum fresh leveling yellows gear/build. I know its very early and you'll be iterating and testing and changing thing, but I think the disconnect was the "league start" title combined with "this is my lvl 100 tree and end game jewels to boost numbers". I look forward to following along as this build progresses in the new patch, just maybe add a little more early granularity or make it more clear this is your projected end game setup.

Yeah, that GG spider aspect and chaos level amulet alone is like 25% of the build's damage.
Buyer beware on this one.
if you remove the awakened gems and OP gear and put literally nothing in those slots, you'll get about 1mil dps. which I'd say is pretty good given that there is nothing in item slots.
@@imsorobo 1mil dps and 11k EHP is kinda joke for league starter, dps is not totally crap but it will be oneshotted every minute on yellow maps. It is really really bad. 4mil dps for build with all priceless gems and items, included belt enchantements and such ? It its totally shit

ES first for sure but then, as we gear up better, I'd like to see how high we can get Evasion. I think it's going to feel really comfortable actually.

League started Bane twice now, and its never let me down, even getting me my first (PRE BULLSHIT-STORM NERF) Sirus kill the league he came out. its always been such a solid skill, my biggest problem with it is that is can be kind of boring to play, and some of the higher end scaling to make it amazing can get expensive fast, but explosions make it fun and it makes a satisfying POP noise so that's cool :P Still considering what to league start with but this is definitely high up on the list.
I was looking at PoB yesterday and there was a 3node wheel really close to the top that gave around 30% damage recouped as life (i think it was called infused flesh), would this be worth it early on?
Those are nice nodes! It's a bit of a travel since we'd have to take 2 nodes that don't really do much but it might feel really good. Worth trying out. :) It's new stuff so I tried to stay with safer sounding this so far.
It's a pretty huge change, but did you look at es/armour (probably LL)? The es/armour wheels on the left are super juicy with great masteries. And with new determination you get great armour values. From my testing, it feels a little too spread out, like it needs about 5 more points to really fit well though. It was fairly easily 30k+ phys ehp. Yours is probably better, but I feeeeel the tweaking potential haha.
I didn't look that closely because, as you said, it looked a little spread out. I already feel a tad stretched going on the outside of the tree but it might be a good call! Worth testing.
In your tree you take the 4 nodes for spell suppression for a total of 35% (55% if on full ES) would it be worth taking the mastery on that spell suppression wheel for an additional 10% spell suppression if all gear is evasion anyway to add just a bit more of a defensive layer? pushing to nearly 33% a 27.5% reduction from spells assuming full ES or 22.5% from 17.5% assuming not seems worthwhile for 1 passive point.
It's tough to make the call without feeling it out right now. I'm leaning towards seeing how high I can get my ES and hoping Ghost Shrouds carry me more. We'll see how it shakes out!
Actually starting with this and super smooth so far. Survivavility early on feels kinda rough but that might be my fault for playing totems like 4 leagues straight. Only downside: I dropped a 5link armor with the correct colors for Punishment Bane in A5 so I might have to change the order of ascendancy passives :D Love the guide, subbed, keep it up. Bane Pop is just so satisfying.

Two questions: In a previous video on this build you said 1 curse on Bane would be best for damage scaling, but you enjoy the utility of the second curse. Did that change? Why go 3 curses this time instead of another support gem?
Aaand i can see it's real awkward pathing for the Growth and Decay chaos dot multi cluster, but you said you think it's low value in general for the end game tree. I thought multi was like THE THING that scales big boi damage. so i'm considering dropping third curse and maybe the evsion/es cluster down low to get the additional dot multi cluster. Thoughts, anyone? :D
It's all relative, in fact if you have enough dot multi you get more out of "increased damage/spell damage" so you have to judge it based on what your current gear is, no absolutes here.
In my very first video for this it was before they nerfed all the support gems. Since Efficacy especially gives us WAY less damage we're better off just going triple curse. Cheers!
idk even know what to play having found so many fun builds last league but im for sure beyond ready and can't wait. Edit: thank you for the leveling tree thats always the one area im always messing up in and always feel weak I hope this helps.
Vet here and while this is a nice build to start its no "leaguestarter" by all means in this constellation because it needs more investment to make it feel good. Don't build up noobtraps.
While i like your guides you should mention that a lot more to newer players or make lowbudget routes for farmups and explain the procedure.
Overall i think you overestimate the skilllevel of the normal playerpool.
Most do not even understand how much currency they have in stray and cannot progress without this understanding.
The support gems and the awakened skills won't be there for the first days and prices will skyrocket because 3.16 so making it even harder for normal players as the prices go up every day because of demand overflowing.
This build stays and falls with it and while you can play with less damage it won't feel good or give a player a feeling of good progression. DoT builds feel bad with low damage.
1 empower will be at least 1-2 ex so keep that in mind and while this is easy farmable in one hour for players with experience it is not for most "normal" players. A normal player plays at least two weeks to get to lvl90 or even more.
The awakened skills are also scatchy since FR and TR uses some of them too and it seems like it won't get nerfed and i think most vets will figure out what will happen.
Maybe use lvl19 gems in pob and not optimized gear and show and explain them how to progress and a lot more ppl will be hooked in the long term.
Not the clicks but the reliability and transparancy will get you subs.
Also i would strongly suggest going into blind because reasons and leaguecontent encounters.

What about using Grace instead of discipline+vitality ? You will have less EHP but you will evade much more hits(can combine with the blind from curse mastery for more evade chance), and when you got hit you'll recover more ES with Ghost Dance.
Was looking at that later on in the stream, I think it's a very strong option!

Building defence on the new tree feels amazing, but now every build I plan ends up being zDPS 😂
I wish someone with more brain than me for this kind of things made a Spellslinger ED Contagion build, i feel like with the new league mechanic that spawns lots of monsters it would be a great build (as i hate the 2 button playstyle of the normal ED Contagion)
Litterally the same tree except you add some reservation nodes to also fit in soulrend, takes no brain its just less clunky but also less damage
If you want to go hybrid evasion\es don't you want to use the curse mastery point that blind enemies?
It's an option but it's tough to know the full value of it because of how hard blind was nerfed. Once we get enough evasion it might be worth it but I'm currently looking at evading as a small little bonus layer. Once the final PoB calculations are patched in we can take a closer look.
@@subtractem I tried in POB with your gear have 36% chance to evade blinded ennemy instead of 30. As blind now scale better with more evasion and your gear is far from optimized it might be not a bad option. There is also curse cluster in the tree that give you 4% life recovery after killing cursed enemy and 2% life regen on hitting cursed enemy as I play SSF it might be a good alternative before finding nice cluter jewel. Anyway thank you for the build ideas!
A couple pieces of Pog gear, a few Cluster Jewels a splash of Abbarant Fossil rolling and I'm assuming a lvl 21 gem. That'll get us 3.5mil dps.
So us normies will be sub 1mil dps for at least 2 weeks.

First, thanks for the update. I consider strongly as my leaguestarter. At the beginning of your video the pob full dot dps is shown as 6,4 million dps. After i import your pob it shows 3.9 full dot dps. I wonder where the different comes from. Any idea ?

Hey just a quick one I tried to take Elder fight on last night and died a lot to him run out of portal :P . I have Char to level 92 and pretty good gear. Any tips with the fight on the build?
Hmm, I'd have to see some gameplay. The most important thing is knowing your dots last 3-5 seconds. Focus on dodging and don't try to cast too much. Cheers!

Hi, if I want to transfer this char to CI version, what ascendancy should I regret for Vile Bastion. Or the Ghost Shroud is enough?
I really think CI isn't going to play to the strengths of this build, the itemization becomes WAY less comfortable and I think you're going to lose out on a lot of damage. If you want to do that I'd change from Malediction probably. Cheers!
You went with the right side of the tree for evasion/health/ES hybrid;
I wonder if I can go left and upper side for life/armor/ES instead and take divine shield
I think the Problem is that a lot of damage comes from the right, due to all the dot multi
@@Izith69 Nevermind. Divine shield is on the dead left, way too far away. I thought of going upper left because the ailment nodes are pretty juicy defensively (Anointed flesh and Asylum), and Acrimony wheel is pretty juicy, but even if I go upper left, there is just no way I'm going to be able to grab divine shield

Is there a way to make this build super tanky with all the Armor/Evasion changes and still have simular damage?.....Maybe some kind of Low Life/Evasion direction?
LL/Eva probably wouldn't be the way to but but I think you could REALLY push the ES higher if you wanted to. Maybe over 4k just on that which would be pretty strong!
Also, thought. Make your Evasion 10 points less than your ES. Then stack Brittle Barrier jewels. 10 x 20% = 200% faster ES start, with no downside of taking more damage as you're never on full ES. (Edit: re: using the new Ghost Dance)
Gonna lose out on too much defense from evasion itself if you do that probably, and itll make ghost shroud garbage
@@thatreallyawkwardguy Oh ye, solely to trigger the not-on-full-energy-shield part: with 20% +15% +10 from tree and 3 jewels you have a delay of 0.98 seconds. With all 10 jewels, 0.58 second delay. Just a thought :)

Yes and i used a shadowstich later on in the game with occultist and it was great and this league it will be even better but also more expensive i guess but thats for later on.
Ohh first CZcams talking about occultist chaos dot in 3.16. I'm considering it as my starter. But I have a lot of doubts, my occultist was da/ca and defence was mostly dodge.. So I wanted to start as bane and changing it to death aura. What to can tell about defences?

Will be viable to slap a Death oath for death aura in this/similar setup?

I uploaded 3.16 Budget PoB: pastebin file to my path of building and it shows only 175K DoT DPS. Do I missing something? I havent do any adjustments in configuration, so these numbers are exactly what I see from file
That would be bane alone. Also you have to check wither stacks and you get a lot of low life damage from punishment. Don't forget that it's about combining Ed and blight ad well.
I never played occultist, is the chaos nodes on top left corner not worth taking?
It's a viable alternative, the issue is that you are then stretched pretty far. They're overall kind of lower value than the ones on the right but you can try both. :)

So, I played a Bane variant and I love the spell, but how do you cope with physical damage? No matter what I've tried, phys mitigation is very underwhelming
This is a kiting build at it's core. Apply your DOT & keep it moving! I think there is yet more to see with the variability of scourged gear.
u dont get +1 curse while levelling by the CI node?
Well, seeing the build right now, is there any plus beside more damage then trickster? He can get 75% block and spell block with 80% avoidance + spell suppression while having around 1,5mil dps if we are going health or 15k while being CI dropping avoidance yet having 2,4K es regen.
how are you getting 75% block and spell block?
Glancing blows - Easily achiveable with some passive point investment.
Profane Bloom, free curse, 60 chaos res, 10% less damage taken.
If you're playing HC then Trickster makes sense but in SC especially I would rather take Occ every time. Cheers!
I'm going to trust you, as you're much more knowledgeable in POE than me, but I must say 4k life, 2k ES, low evasion and low block feels quite squishy. Played an ES variant last league and with minimum investment (league starter, bought 2 rings) I had 8k5 ES by white maps, up to 9k5 at the end. With increases to ES values of gear this league, the 10k marker should be easily obtainable.
Also, surprised you didn't go for any of the new ailment masteries - personally going to go for free corrupted blood immune.
But you seem to think this is pretty tanky, so I'll try it out.
I also have hundreds of hours as bane, "left-click defense" is definitely a thing, but having the games best Temp chains + hinder, and if you wish, enfeeble, + malediction, is rather underappreciated EHP. It is a kiting build at its core

11:56 i looked into this PoB and it said that you get dot multi for all chaos res, not just above 0%. So you will already get 15 multi just from the occultist notable that gives +60 res. But may be pob is wrong about that?
I think you're right, to get capped you need 135res, if you divide that by 4 instead of 75 being res capped should give us 33.75 dot multi, not 18.75, making the mastery even better

What do you think is a realistic dps without cluster jewels and day 1 gear?
Even if we cut it in more than half we're still in the combined 2-3mil range which is very comfortable for early Sirus kills. Important thing will be leveling up your gems and getting an Essence of Delirium on for your gloves. Cheers!

@@subtractem thanks, dude, i watched the other video and made a tree iteration on your build, only to find that if you go at the start towards corruption and heart of darkness in the first 20 levels the dmg scales towards late with almost half of a million more until lvl 83. of course taking acrimony too
