  • Join Megalithomania with guest host Nicholas Cope in Orkney on a specialised tour, August 11th - 18th 2023: www.megalithomania.co.uk/orkne.... In this video Hugh Newman explores the 5,700 year old Knap of Howar on Papa Westray, Orkney. It consists of two stone 'houses' similar to the later Skara Brae, and showS sophisticated geometry, encodeS the megalithic yard and the golden section, and may be where many of the ideas for the megalithic stone circle building culture originated. Featuring the work of author Nicholas Cope who wrote 'The Knap of Howar and the Origins of Geometry' (www.ncope.co.uk), the video explores the site thoroughly and includes exclusive aerial footage. Also, the flight here from mainland Orkney is the world's shortest flight (that we include on the tour in August!)

Incredible dwellings and such neat dry stone wall building. I reckon there must be more like this around there, perhaps another storm might reveal as such one day. Great video, really enjoyed this, thanks Hugh - oh and love the music to these vids!

Man has always been very advanced, he's only been limited by his stone age technology. Man was never evolved from monkeys.

Giulio M that is the key....NOT from monkey. That’s the biggest lie ever given to mankind. I dunno what the truth is but man to ape is NOT it. It’s clear we are the product of a designer so the real question is WHO or WHAT is the designer and engineer of man!?

I don't suppose for a moment that whoever built this amazing little house was thinking in terms of sacred geometry or chakras or suchlike ....
But perhaps they were unconsciously thinking, in a feng shui kind of way, it should be this big, shaped like this, and oriented in the direction.
I do so wish I could go back and meet them.

That looks like a oval shaped American Indian Kiva! the layout is so much the same!!!
Has anyone seen the work of Dr.David Riech from Harvard, he is a DNA expert, he started to test ancient DNA in 2013, he has overwhelming DNA evidence of American Indian migration to Africa, Asia and Europe starting over 14,000 years ago, so this fits like a glove!!!.........Thanks for sharing!
I love this channel and the people who bring the Good stuff!!!

Nature has away of slowly exposing the past to us ! The thing of it is that some may not be recognized by anyone of the possibility of the importance of these things ! Thank you for a very interesting video as it make me wonder what else is out there waiting to be found !

Looks like you could flip a boat upside down on top of that. While your boat is upside down you could make repairs to it by day and by night watch the stars. Maybe waiting for the currents to change.

That looks like it was designed for a people who where a little over 3ft or 4 ft tall. There are many stories and accounts of people who where described as pygmies or dwarfs of about 4ft tall, living in many northern European countries and all the way to northern Canada. Some stories also say that these people had a magical way of working with nature.

I've visited my grandmother in Ireland. Even her house had very low ceilings ...my brother is 6'5 so it was quite funny to the rest of us. Advances in Child hood nutrition have really allowed people to grow tall in the last century.

I would imagine that the larger chamber was for the grown ups, with it's higher walls, and the smaller chamber was the children's area.

    Interesting coincidence...
The old world use to use 24.1 as the ecliptic, but before that 22.5 was used for 32/16/8 point portolano.
    Sin 11.25 / Sin 22.50 = Sin (90- 59.3497)
Thus a 32 point portolano with 22.5 ecliptic
    59.3495° N, 2.9106° W

Ok, so I know nothing (and I don't want to sound sceptical but it's windy and exposed up there). So if I were going to make a house then I'd have a little tunnel like entrance to stop the weather getting in and then have a bigger living area. And, as a parent I'd defo want a separate bit for my kids!! However, I would very much like to come on one of your tours. Keep up the good work!

Actually the two buildings have alot of sacred geometry built into them. The axis all line up. The first building resembles a child and the larger a mother. If the child is in the womb horizontally and you flip it verticle to represent birth....the position and size of the smaller building suddenly make sense. The hallway represents an umbilical cord.
