  • How to remove the door panel on a Ford Ranger. While this is a 1998 truck, this applies to the years 1995 and up as they used a similar style door panel with small changes on trim piece. This procedure also applied to the same generation of the Mazda B series trucks. #fordranger #ford #mazdabseries

    Tools/Supplies Needed:
    -phillips screwdriver
    -nylon trim tool
    -T20 torx driver
    Procedure:
After opening up the door, I like to flip the door latch to shut off the interior light so it doesn’t drain the battery. You can also disconnect the battery, but it isn’t needed.
Behind the door pull will be two Phillips screws which need to be removed.
Next is removing the one Phillips screw at the bottom corner of the door panel. This screw was stuck inside the panel, so it could be unscrewed from the door, but not completely removed from the panel.
Next is removing the window crank if you have manual windows. Slip your fingers in behind and pop off the cap, then rotate it over to expose the screw in behind. This has a T20 torx screw.
Then pull the window crank off the spline.
Using a plastic trim tool, pop off the black trim on the door panel which will expose more screws. Using a nylon trim tool to help unclip the trim piece.
Separate the tabs on the power mirror switch to help assistant in the disconnection and remove.
Remove the phillips screw that was in behind that panel.
Considering the screw on the bottom corner is still in the panel, the plastic does have some give so pull it out while pull up the panel so it doesn’t scratch the paint in behind. It does help to push the lock down, the panel needs to be pulled up about a couple inches until it’s fully disconnected.
And now to give you a view in behind the panel so you can see the clip locations. This panel is a bit different than compared to other vehicles as it doesn’t feature replaceable snap clips so there’s less chance of breaking them as it basically slides into place.
Now for installation, it’s in reverse of removal. I found it’s easier to have the window down this time and pull the lock up. You’ll need to assist the lock into place from the window side. Watch for the screw that’s still stuck in place if you have that problem, push the panel against the door and then push it down making sure all the tabs are locked into place.
Install the screw in the corner.
Next install the screw behind the black trim panel.
    Connect the power mirror switch.
Snap the black trim panel into place.
Install the two screws behind the door panel.
Roll up the window, make sure the plastic ring is in place, then align the window crank to the passenger window and install the screw.
Snap the cover back into place.
Release the door latch before closing the door and you’re officially done.

The fabric small panel how do I remove that I need to replace the cloth. Do I have to open it all up or can I just pop it out with a flathead without taking off the whole door

My door handle just detached internaly making getting in my truck difficult. My truck doesn't have the stock seats so it is a tighter fit. They are leather seats from a Chevrolet truck. My uncle installed those.

Check your door drains, most likely they're plugged.

Never mind I used a dental pick.
Now about that T-20 screw ... the cavity it is in is too small and deep to use bit in a driver.
It requires a dedicated T-20 screw driver with a thin shaft.

Glad to hear you got it. Used you need either a screwdriver torx driver or an allen wrench style. Could use an interchangeable tip version if you ground down the diameter.

Sadly the window crank doesn’t come with power door lock buttons with a small lock on the top all the way down. Ford needs to have a bigger size lock (about 1/2 cm, not 1/16 cm) so it’s easier to get out of the car/truck. Otherwise, we need to have strong fingertips (for example, natural nails, acrylics, or fake nails with a manicured look on the hands) in order to grasp that tiny lock on top of the door panel.
