- Tekken Tag Tournament Opening FMV
Remastered in 4K using ESRGAN [AI Machine Learning]
ESRGAN is an AI Neural Network software that is capable of upscaling and reconstructing
low-resolution images, while retaining most of their elements and details intact.
Since Tekken Tag Tournament FMV files are encrypted, I had to record the opening cutscene using PCSX2.
I used AutoDeblock, FineDehalo, KNLMeansCL and LSFmod to remove some noise, sharp
the edges and reduce the compression artifacts. Then I used ESRGAN with the Manga109
training model to upscale the video 4 times its original resolution…
And the results are really good.
Original resolution: 640x448 [Resolution based on PCSX2’s internal buffer]
ESRGAN Upscale: 2560x1920 - Hry
Still the best Tekken intro. And I didn’t realize Jin in sitting on the same log/branch in Tekken 8. Nice callback
I didn't notice that! Thanks!!!
Not to mention, that helipad that Kazuya was standing on would be made into a playable stage in Tekken 6.
I vividly remember booting up my PS2 for the first time on Christmas Day 2000 and being completely blown away by this. Stunning.

Same!
Try to watch Tekken 7 with your 2000 eyes
Bro for something made in fucking 1999 this was mind blowing when this came out, I couldn't believe the graphics could be this revolutionary still a great game to this day.
Then there’s tekken 4 in 2002
@@marukoamv2424 I love how that game looks
The leap from PS1 to PS2 was *MASSIVE* , and no other generation of consoles has made such a huge advance since.
@@GyrbaeOnly time I have felt the jump is from this to Tekken 8
@@Gyrbae N64/PS1 to Dreamcast was a bigger jump
The song on this opening is amazing.
The whole soundtrack is the best! Definitely including this song
The entire OST is the best
That piano in the very beginning.
Yep
Kazuya had that solid, 2000s business man swag. This entire intro has so much swag to it. The beat drop at 0:41 when Bryan's just airing the room out with the MP5 is TOUGH.
I am probably the only one who realizes 100% what you mean.
*That elegant classy 2000s mysterious and private businessman swag that was actually a genius.* Seto Kaiba vibes only that Seto was loud and had no hints of mystery.
It’s an MP5 but I get what you mean.
@@avruvimtu2204 exactly this.
@@noaho.5304 hahaha oops! Whatever it was, that joker was Febreeze sprayin' the whole room with it 😂!
I swear I thought I was the only one to notice the Bryan part.
I watched this intro almost every time I booted this game, which was a LOT.
Almost like a right of passage, like you couldn’t help but to watch the intro before playing the game it was just that beautiful
Jin remembering the only good thing in his life: Jun
Sucks for Xiaoyu and Hwoarang.
@@somethingcool1533 well family comes first 😉
@@SONY95ish Word
Of course his mother.
Well there's that one guy in Tekken 4 that Trained him
It's like when 1999-2000 hit, the graphics on videos games became absolutely revolutionary on a nuclear level. Tekken Tag Tournament's intro took my breath away.
I hate this phrase, but Tag’s intro theme *fucking slaps*
The contrast of Jun standing by a thriving mangrove with a beautiful sunset, and Jin sitting by a dead and dried-up one with an overcast sky is pretty kino I think
based
Also the contrast between all the characters and their motives is really sick, from Bryan airing out the floor with the mp5 to Nina applying make up and grabbing her jacket. Very stylish and classy.
I loved this urban setting. They intensified it in Tekken 4, but it was never seen again 😔
0:58 The snip between Jun and Jin gives me so much nostalgia
I remember being so happy with Kazuya return in the series
I miss that old tekken vibe. The characters were more realistic, the urban environment makes them feel like real street fighters. It was more mature, classy and badass. I love Tekken 7 as a game but I think the style is a lil a bit "too much" : Claudio, Lars, Alisa... being the embodiement of the new direction of Tekken
Yep, since Tekken 6 it's about making shit as crazy as possible to lure people in, Tekken used to a TRUE classic. I wish they brought that old school passion again and be ready for Tekken 8 on PS5's release, Tekken and Playstation used to be all you needed to be put in a gaming vibe.
@@welsh_steel2285 DR wasn't even that crazy, in either gameplay or character designs.
I agree. But, my personal choice here, Alisa can stay because she has more character built in from one of the Tekken Animated films. Outside of that, they can keep a few things from this and go back to basic with a Tekken Tag remaster or sequel for their next installment
@Tcb bct well that sucks balls, now she's unnecessary to the whole thing. Still like her though, again, my opinion
Tekken 7 is the worst Tekken but still better than 1
I liked Tekken 3 as it was my first fighting game but this cinematic kicked off an obsession for me. Been a fan of the series ever since.
czcams.com/video/a6mKIA5TKpU/video.html
Broo tekken is very unique, these intros and music is on another level.
I liked how back then the characters looked and felt like real people, now its almost cartoonish how they’re portrayed
I think this one was the best one out of all the tekken series! even the most recent ones, it’s still my favorite til this day, still have it, still playing it
Agree 🙏my childhood memories 🙏
Same here.
They reference this in the new Tekken game in its opening with Jin sitting pose
Imagine going from ps1 graphics to this...that opening music was perfect introduction to the ps2 era...my mind was blown when I played this...and then final fantasy 10 blew my mind again. Ps2 era was definitely special and the last era of WOW factor ended in the ps3-xbox 360 HD generation.
Indeed.
I remember people saying that this game didn't look that much better than tekken 3. They had to get used to it then go back to 3 to really appreciate the jump
I always love the water effects in the end of the FMV and with that upscaler it looks so smooth. That water effect still holds up today!
I actually think that "water" is Unknowns purple sludge
I remember Christmas 2001 getting a PS2 with Tekken and Grand Turismo 3. They don't make like they used to. 21 years it still works brand new
Honestly the best part of this intro is when nina puts on makeup
Its just so detailed for the time

😂😂yes
Yooooooo .0.
Watching this brought back some nostalgia.

Tekken tag was the first tekken game Ive ever played.I didnt know anything about the lore back then so when I saw the intro I thought Jun is Jins love interest and that Kazuya is his brother. They all look young and similiar age.Only later I found out they are Jins parents :O.
Same i thought jun was his love interest but that was until i saw the names are similar with the letter "J' so then i was finalized and thought that Jun was Jin's sister. I always knew or thought kazuya was Jin's father because they look alike because of the hair.
@@swagvegito2592 jun and kazuya and heihachi and kazumi
Most 90s kids was obsessed with Pokémon I was with this game in 2000
I was obsessed with both. Lol
This and 3 was peak Tekken. Gameplay wise it's probably peak now, but in terms of style, character designs, vibe, this was it right here.
There was a sense of class, seriousness and realism that Bamco never captured after T4. The characters in this trailer look like REAL people with their own lives. A PS2 masterpiece indeed.
I like the ord version of Kazuya more than the evil red-eyed Kazuya...
We all miss the original Kazuya before Harada ruined him
Funny how most of these characters were more interesting when they didn't speak
This opening music intro, just blissful millenium
0:22 Sony in 2000 ps2 launch: Let's get this party started
Best tekken intro . music is full on energy
This opening theme is not only the theme of tag tournament, but also the theme of the entire series
It returned with a vengeance in Tag Tournament 2.
One of the best fighting game intros of all time. Easily top 3 in the Tekken series.
The graphics of when Bryan is shooting up the place is still absolutely stunning and has aged well after 20+ years. This is still my favourite Tekken intro after T5.
It throws me right back to my childhood. The music and the video - it brings back so many memories. Just the sound of the vocal snippet at 0:41 and the fast drums afterwards ... it's the typical sound of this game. I'm glad I took these memories with me.
1:00 We now know where this exact place is in Tekken 8.
Tekken 2 and Tekken Tag are my favorite games in the Tekken series
This was me and my brother's humble beginning into the franchise of tekken and was a big part of growing up since we at first had a snes, gbc, gba, and then moved onto a ps2. Those were good times especially when we would bring our ps2 over to our grandparent's house and have tekken tournaments with our uncles and our cousin. I plan on continuing that tradition when I get a monitor for my ps5, I just have to wait a little longer until wirk picks up again.
My first Tekken game was a little kid i play this was i have 8-9 years old I never knew this type of game before after I play this game for the first time with armor king and king i like this game I never play a other Tekken before this year I play Tekken 5 DR and Tekken 6 on PSP
The game that literally brought Kazuya back from the dead, and back to the main series.
This is one of the reasons why TTT is the real Tekken 4
czcams.com/video/a6mKIA5TKpU/video.html
best comment
I like the way that sounds
I played Tekken 4 recently after like, 6 or 7 years and i completely reject everything bad i said about it. It's just a wonderful game, one of the best in the series but also the most underrated. Don't listen to anyone and play Tekken 4 without any prejudice. Trust me, it'll be worth of every single second of gameplay
@@fabriziomassaccesi2878 4 has the best aesthetic and sound imo.
literal goosebumps whenever i'm listening to the OST
I bought PS2 from my first sallary and ran to shop for TTT. I was absolutely stunned by this game a next-gen console. Great times.
back when Kazuya was the main character
new game 2022 what do you think czcams.com/video/jA_zaXJ6uNs/video.html
The peak of humanity
this probably means nothing but an animated woman being depicted putting on lipstick and moisturizer (or whatever you call that ive got no idea) has always stuck with me for some reason, it made the game just feel that much more mature, real and raw
It sure was a marvel of graphics for the time because there are details they took their time on, like her face skin "pulling" as she's applying concealer/foundation under her eye; same for the lipstick. Not to mention the animation/motion capture was so just so smooth
Wanted to come hear this after Kazuya got announced for smash. I can't wait!!
SAME!
It's easily the best intro for me. I loved TTT to no end.
This... This is the very first video game that I have played when I was a kid. I am not an avid gamer back then but I can still remember things so clearly. My parents drove to the nearest city for 2 hours and went back home with a yellow gift box. It was a PS2, my first video game console. I was 7-years-old back then and I never even asked for a gaming console, but my parents thought I deserved one. They even brought at least 7-8 different disks. My dad did a brilliant choice by popping in Tekken Tag Tournament as my very first video game to play, and I had way too much fun playing TTT1, to the point that I somehow managed to strain my right arm by button mashing too hard😅
I'd also liked to mention that as much as I love this intro, the scene in 1:13 scared me as a kid. This scene alone is the reason why I'd sometimes skip the intro even though I love the graphics and sound. Coming back to this video after learning about the lore and the upcoming Tekken 8, I felt so nostalgic yet happy to know that the legacy of Tekken goes on. In other words, Tekken really had a special place in my heart..
This and Tekken 2 have the best intros. They just do.
This might be the clearest render of young Kazuya in existence.
I literally used to sit and watch the whole intro every time I booted this game in my PS2..
Just by watching this, I time travelled. After school, my best friend had a PS2 and this game, we've found a way to avoid doing our homework, and we are playing this game together, hoping to get to the final boss. This became one of my best memories from those days as I lived with my dad, but my school was near to my childhood home (which I currently reside) so I had to wait around here until he came for me all the way into the evening.
Gives me goosebumps watching this , love it
Old memories 😭😭
Year 2000's Y2K millenium vibes intro
Such good memories of this game playing with my cousin and brother on the ps2 , Great character selection, stages and the soundtracks was 🔥 the Bowling was fun too ! Classic game
You can see a photo of Reiko Nagase at 0:26 and 0:32 on the grey billboard. I never really noticed it until now, pretty crazy!
Where?!

YO!! Ridge Racer is canon to Tekken!!
Jun part is so beautiful (best intro with tekken 3)

1:09 any girl would say that nobody is more handsome than Kazuya Mishima
Jin : Allow me to introduce myself
When I first got PS2, I couldn't believe the gfx that early in the console's development. Namco wasn't playing around. Gaddamn!
When I saw this game in game graohics in 1999 magazine I was impressed by the Graphic leap from Tekken 3.
My thoughts to this:
- This Cinematic Future Tokio Melodic Trance Drum n Bass Track is amazing lol
- The visuals, especially the water in the Jun scene ist still overwhelming
- Tekken could have been one of the best animes, if done right
- Bryan and Nina are soulmates
I still have Tekken Tag Tournament on PlayStation 2 and I have been playing it for over 20 years
The epicness of early ps2 era. This was big.
I still can’t believe this cutscene was actually on a PS2.
Best tekken. Music was so ahead of its time.

Still the best Tekken intro theme by FAR.
Kazuya Mishima looking Glorious as always in his Black Suit. DORIYA💪⚡⚡
I always think of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 as :
Tekken 2 vs. Tekken 3
😂😂😂

Epics start of a new generation of gaming
This game still has the best soundtrack of the series imo
For a game released in 2000, these graphics still hold up today
These graphics were like real like to me back when I was a kid. Thanks for doing this
How the absolute hell can I be SO nostalgic for a Tekken I have never played?
In fact, the ONLY Tekken I've never played!
0:50 I remember a magazine from back in the day showing this very image and commenting "One wonders what the PS3 will be capable of"
The first few notes of the soundtrack is enough to spiral me back to endless nostalgia.
Even tho this is upscaled, this is almost exactly how good I remember this looking when I was younger. Nostalgia goggles for you
One of the best Tekken intros i've ever seen.
This is where it all started for me.
3-4 years old and shitting bricks everytime the pre-rendered character select face of Heihachi came on - Not to mention Unknown.
GOD DAMN I WAS SCARED.
This was an absolute masterpiece and Tekken 7 has lost almost all of the charm it once had. After Tekken 5 things just started going a bit downhill for me (even though I still actively play 7)
🤞🏼 fingers crossed Tekken 8 brings things back together.
@@OmegaBlackHeart After watching all the trailers and footage from Tekken 8 it's looking good again my friend. They're on the right track again hopefully it'll be something great
@@FinesseJohnson187 I want to be optimistic on what we've seen so far and I do like a couple of things I've seen like some special intros. But it looks like they're still going with the whole "characters speaking different languages and still understand each other" crap that started in 5. 🤦🏻♂️ but we'll see.
Now this brings back some memories!!! My brother and I would play this every weekend when it came out. My team was Jin and King.
Now, this is the one I've been looking for so long.
Tbh the graphics still look good today for something from literally 1999/2000 like it looks so crisp and smooth
I never played this game until a year ago, yet every time I boot this game up, it feels like I’m whisked back to 2000
Puberty days….what a time for gaming
THEY WENT SO HARD FOR THIS INTRO FOR NO REASON
One of the few video game intros I watch every time I start up the game 😂
One of, if not, the greatest fighting game intro of all time!
the fact that when I was 5 years old and saw this intro for the first time in 1999. I imagined it with this resolution at the time. I knew cutscenes like these werent actual gameplay graphics but i knew games were gonna look like this in the future. Its crazy to see alot of games not hold up and some cutscenes like this one still hold up pretty good.
After all these years, I realized that there is an image of Reiko Nagase from Ridge Racer to the left of the big red cigarette billboard!
Tekken tag had the best graphics of its time especially this opening movie. The scene from Hong Kong with Lei looked very realistic.
I'll never forget how I felt when I first played this at the PS2's launch. I was an avid TTT player at the local arcade. And then.... this was the first game I had ever seen on a home machine that was both graphically superior to the arcade AND had less slow down. A turning point, for sure.
20 years ago or 21. Unbelievable. I remember the first time I saw this. Shocking
first game I got for my PS2 back in early 2001
Me too! Same year I bought an original ps2 with TTT and GTA3!
Straight 🔥
Greatest Launch title for a console ever. TTT was the end of old school Tekken in my opinion.
i miss the design of car and architecture and fashion of this era . this is definetly one of the best cinematic intros ever
